    23/09/2020 Duración: 01h01min

Michael Arterberry is a former athlete, a husband and father, and a seasoned motivational speaker.   Since 2008, Michael has used the story of his childhood and how he went on to nearly earn the chance to try out for an NFL team as a way to motivate, inspire, and change the lives of teenagers and adults.   In this week's episode, Michael describes how being open and honest with his own story helps people use what they have gone through to get to their own breakthrough.   Connect with Michael at www.michaelarterberry.com and www.youthvoicescenter.org to learn more. • Ep 322: Talking risky situations, kindness, and fitness with ABC News' Matt Gutman

    09/09/2020 Duración: 49min

This is a special episode for me being that I am a former journalist. My guest this week is ABC News Chief National Correspondent Matt Gutman, a fit dad and no doubt one of the most recognizable figures in news reporting.   Matt has reported on events in more than 40 countries, oftentimes in dangerous or scary situations, but he does it all with one deep desire — to tell the most important stories of the day.   And make no mistake, Matt considers his health and fitness to be a major reason why he's able to do what he does.   Connect with Matt on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/mattgutmanabc) and Twitter (https://twitter.com/mattgutmanABC).   Check out BrainFM's amazing AI-powered music and get 3 days for free when you go to https://www.fitdadfitness.com/brainfm.   Thanks for listening to the show! 02/09/2020 Duración: 01h06min

Larry Hagner, the founder of The Good Dad Project and the host of the Dad’s Edge Podcast, joins me this week for a long-overdue conversation.   A father of four boys, Larry knows first-hand how difficult it can be to raise a family while maintaining your marriage/partnership/life and your sanity.   I appreciated Larry's openness and vulnerability so much during this interview, as he was just as willing to talk about his own faults and flaws as he was willing to talk about his triumphs and accomplishments — as a husband, father, business owner, and more. Enjoy!   Check out Larry's book “The Dad’s Edge”, as well as his website, https://gooddadproject.com/. • Everyday people can do extraordinary things, with Freddie Bennett

    26/08/2020 Duración: 01h15min

Freddie Bennett isn't an athlete or ex-soldier. He's just an everyday guy who decided to do extraordinary things.   Freddie is on a mission to help people who are stuck in their comfort zones to find the courage to start living the life they dream of.   After years of addiction and feeling stuck in a lifeless job, Freddie's call-to-action came when he watched his own father die suddenly before his eyes.   Since then, he's seemingly done it all: breaking a Guinness World Record, running 200 miles across the Sahara Desert in the world's toughest ultramarathon, becoming an Ironman after having never attempted a triathlon before.   Though Freddie seeks extreme challenges, the lessons he has learned in achieving those goals can be used and applied by anyone to do anything they've dreamed of.   Connect with Freddie at https://freddiembennett.com/ or at https://www.instagram.com/freddieexplores/.   The podcast partner of the month is Jupiter CBD, and right now at https://www.getjupiter.com/share/fitdad you can get 1

  • Tackling binge eating for good, with Dr. Glenn Livingston

    19/08/2020 Duración: 01h01min

Dr. Glenn Livingston is a veteran psychologist with a pointed belief that it is possible to stop overeating and "never binge again."   In fact, he wrote a book about it, appropriately called Never Binge Again (https://neverbingeagain.com/). What makes Dr. Livingston uniquely aware of the issues of overeating, stress eating, and binge eating is the fact that he was once obese himself and he spent years working for the food industry and saw firsthand how manipulative food processing can be.   Disillusioned by what traditional psychology had to offer overweight and/or food obsessed individuals, Dr. Livingston spent several decades researching the nature of bingeing and overeating. But most important to his approach was his own personal journey out of obesity and food prison to a normal, healthy weight and a much more lighthearted relationship with food.   The podcast partner of the month is Jupiter CBD, and right now at https://www.getjupiter.com/share/fitdad, you can get 10% off your order when you use the cod

  • Friday Reflex: Please, don't stop taking care of yourself

    14/08/2020 Duración: 12min

Many people young and old are struggling with mental health problems and issues right now, and my plea in this brand new Friday Reflex is to find a way to continue to work on your physical health.   This is turn will positively affect your mental health, and allow you to show up for those around you who need you most.   Here's the CDC study information I referred to in this episode: https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/13/health/mental-health-coronavirus-pandemic-cdc-study-wellness/index.html

  • Ep 166: Living as human beings vs. human doings, with Udo Erasmus

    12/08/2020 Duración: 01h09min

This week's conversation with author, speaker, and health and wellness expert Udo Erasmus is one of the more thought-provoking and interesting discussions I've ever had on this show.   Udo was born into and grew up in a war zone and lived without easy access to water and no electricity. Then, in 1980, Udo got pesticide poisoning, and his doctors didn't know how to help.   This led Udo down a path to discovering his own definition of health, and through deep research, he made discoveries that changed the trajectory of his life and purpose — including his eight-step process to achieving whole health, including mental health, presence and awareness, and being in harmony with nature and humanity.   You don't want to miss this episode!   Download Udo's free eBook, "You Body Needs an Oil Change," at https://www.udoerasmus.com/fitdad, and dig into Udo's other works at theudo.com and https://www.udoschoice.com.   The podcast partner of the month is Jupiter CBD, and right now at https://www.getjupiter.com/share/fitda

  • Ep 165: 'Everything I've been through has prepared me for right now,' with adventurer Tom Fabbri

    05/08/2020 Duración: 01h18min

My guest this week, Tom Fabbri, is an adventurer who has climbed six of the seven summits — the tallest peaks on the seven continents — and is working to complete the Adventure Grand Slam, which is the seven summits plus skiing to the North and South Poles.   He's also a father, an entrepreneur, and an author with a message rooted in harnessing fear through uncertainty. In our conversation this week, we discuss a lot about how his relationship with his father affected him as he went through years of addiction, waywardness, and even homelessness, and how that affected him as a father himself. Tom's purpose in pursuing adventure is to show others that anything is possible if you dare to dream and that overcoming fear is the only way to become who we were meant to be.   Check out Tom's work at https://www.tomfabbri.com/, and connect with him at https://www.instagram.com/lifewrangler/.   Check out this week's podcast partner, Jupiter CBD, at https://www.getjupiter.com/share/fitdad. • Ep 164: How a "Nirvana kid" became a Fit Dad, with Kevin Torres of Dad Bod Wod

    29/07/2020 Duración: 57min

I get the pleasure of welcoming Kevin Torres of Dad Bod WOD to the show this week after I've appeared on his podcast a couple times this year. Kevin and I discuss his path to fitness, which he discovered after leaving the Army and being introducing to fitness for health reasons rather than just meeting a physical fitness standard. Now, this self-proclaimed music kid has turned into a workout warrior, and he's helping other fathers find sustainable ways to fit fitness into their everyday lives and actually enjoy it. Connect with Kevin on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/dadbod_wod, and give his podcast a listen at https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/dad-bod-wod-podcast/id1503147122. • Ep. 163: Continuing the conversation about racism in America, with James Townsend

    22/07/2020 Duración: 53min

My guest this week is James Townsend, an incredible athlete, CrossFit gym owner, husband, and father. James is also a black man, and this interview was recorded at the height of the protests and demonstrations in the weeks after the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police officers. In this conversation, James details his life and experiences as a black man in America, one who had a child at a young age, had a chance to go to the NFL and passed it up, and as a CrossFit owner, had to witness CrossFit founder Greg Glassman's insensitive tweets and emails that eventually led to Glassman's removal from the organization. Conversations like the one in today's show have to continue, and I am proud and excited to release this episode. While much of our conversation centers on the relevant topics of what's going on in our world, James and I do get a chance to talk about life, fitness, and fatherhood, including how his daughters are already beasts in the gym at young ages. • Ep 162: Overcoming the frustration of feeling like your mind and body are being held back, with Ben Crane

    15/07/2020 Duración: 56min

This week, father and personal trainer Ben Crane of Do What You Can't joins the show to offer up the story of how his battle back from injuries and surgeries set him on a path to help others achieve what they don't believe they can achieve, both mentally and physically. During physical therapy to recover from surgery, Ben threw himself into learning as much about exercise and recovery as possible, to the point where a chance comment from his wife turned into his calling as a personal trainer. Ben offers up a lot of inspiration and wisdom from a guy who has gone through what so many of us experience — the frustration of feeling like we're being held back.
