I love hearing stories about family food traditions. I sit down with my German friends to learn more about German cuisine, how their family incorporates German culture through food, and some insight from my friend Mike who has been to Berlin and shared his experience eating in Germany. My wonderful friend Mia and her soul sister Bao teach me all about the food of Madagascar. This is the first time I am hearing of this cuisine. It is very unique that I'm pretty sure there isn't a local Malagasy restaurant around the DMV area but you never know when it might just pop up somewhere! Here is my interview with my great uncle, Uncle Honor joined by several others from the fam. Uncle Honor is a man of a few words but is well traveled and has many stories to share. His late wife, Auntie Setsuko was Japanese so I was curious what it was like for them to have Japanese and Filipino cuisine in one household.
