Sinopsis

Jacky Winter Gives You The Business is a weekly podcast hosted by Lara Chan-Baker and Jeremy Wortsman. As Producers at Jacky Winter — a creative production and artist representation studio based in both Melbourne, Australia and New York City — their roles put them right in the centre of the action, in between client and creative, so they get to see all sides of the process. But they want to see more. Joined by special guests from all corners of the industry landscape, they deep dive into the ideas, issues and insights driving the many moving parts of today's creative ecosystem. Shifting format from year to year, Season 8 sees them venturing outside their own industry to explore how others do it. How they conceive of, manage and produce all sorts of creative outputs — from buildings, to shoes, to plays, to documentaries, and all sorts of other things that make up our lives. It all involves production, and together they're exploring what that looks like for different people and companies and what we can learn from them. Join them each week as they highlight a different industry alongside a very special guest. It’s an ongoing exploration of what the hell we’re all doing and why and how we’re doing it.

  • 029 - Mentorships. The Email Charter. Influencer Agencies. HAPPY FUN BALL.

    09/02/2018 Duración: 40min

This week! Lara discusses the importance of mentorship and the new offering launched from Career Contessa. Bianca takes a tip from last week's episode to drop a truth bomb on why THE EMAIL PROBLEM IS REAL. Jeremy reviews one of the most recently launched influencer agencies and ponders how and and if Influence marketing dis-incentivises craft in commercial art. We’re planning on doing these episodes every couple of weeks to break up the interviews as well as to give us some more space to tease out some of the more exploratory content that we’ve heard you enjoy. Before we jump in, I should say we REALLY need a better name for this segment/feature. If you can think of a good one, we’ll name the next Mini Link episode after you. Send in your suggestions to podcast@jackywinter.com - If you want to submit a link, article, or request for coverage, let us know as well! • 028 - Grace Murray from Fohr Card

    02/02/2018 Duración: 47min

We first discussed influencer marketing back in September as we investigated some of the more basic workings of things from our perspective as more traditional agents and producers. Since then, influencer marketing has only grown in scale and ambition, so to help fill out the bigger picture of the ins and outs of this rapidly changing industry, we’re very excited to welcome Grace Murray to the podcast. Grace is campaign account director for Fohr Card in New York, one of the largest influencer agencies/platforms in the market. • 027 - A chance encounter with Claire Brooks

    26/01/2018 Duración: 53min

This week we dust off the cobwebs and officially start our second season. After a leisurely break battling our respective extreme weather conditions, we’re back with a renewed sense of purpose and clarity after tinkering under the hood of the podcast and slightly reconfiguring how we do things around here. Over the coming weeks and episodes, you might notice a few changes. Firstly, we’re making an effort to make our episodes shorter. Now that every man, woman, and child and pet has their own podcast, we know that your time is more valuable than ever to squeeze all that content into your ear-holes, so together with our superstar producer Areej, we’re working extra hard behind the scenes to get things tighter and leaner so you only get that nice top creamy layer of Jacky Winter aweseomness that you have grown to love. Secondly, we’re going to be introducing more interviews with people who have absolutely nothing to do with the advertising or design community, but still have valid lessons and experiences to shar

  • 026 - 2017: Hold my beer.

    21/12/2017 Duración: 54min

For us here at JW, 2017 was the year that we developed a pavlovian auto-anxiety response to the New York Time push news alert. Is it too much to ask to not use the same system to notify me that North Korea has launched a missile test with the same one that tells me their annual gift guide is released? While 2017 has seen its fair share of bullshit to say the least, there were some pretty amazing things happening as well - not to mention the fact that the advertising and design worlds continued to somehow exist and stay relevant, and not get decimated by our new AI overlords. So to help celebrate the year that was, and what is to come, we thought we’d check in with each other to go over everything from our favourite projects and pop culture obsessions here at JW, all the way to our predictions for the new year and narkiest anonymous comments. We are currently looking for new interview subjects! Know a PM, producer, studio manager, art buyer, etc etc who is amazing at their job? Dob them in to podcast@jackyw

  • 025 - The Animation Episode!

    15/12/2017 Duración: 59min

Well, it’s taken us nearly half a year to get there, but we’re finally ready to sit down and have a serious heart to heart talk about animation. For us here at Jacky Winter through our Flutter and Gif Horse branches, making things move accounts for more and more of our workflow each year. As more screens fill more places, brands and publishers need more content to put on those screens, and this is exactly where we come in. For our artists and producers, working on animated content can be one of the most rewarding tasks there is, but it’s not without it’s unique production challenges. To that end, we thought we’d have a bit more of a process driven chat today to talk about how animation differs from some of the other projects we work on, and some of the specific skills required as producers to help navigate them. We are currently looking for new interview subjects! Know a PM, producer, studio manager, art buyer, etc etc who is amazing at their job? Dob them in to podcast@jackywinter.com so we can hit them up!

  • 024 - Brendan Campbell, Line Producer

First starting out as a Production Runner and progressing through all the various assistant director roles, Brendan is now a very busy Line Producer. Through 25 years as a First Assistant Director, a large part of Brendan’s working life has been spent on set, leading crews of 5 or 6 people through to a couple of hundred. He’s been involved in some of Australia’s most successful TV dramas including Flying Doctors, Underbelly, Nowhere Boys, The Time Of Our Lives and Molly. Most recently Brendan has worked on Barracuda, Glitch and Seven Types of Ambiguity. He has also worked on feature films such as Ghost Rider, Ned Kelly, and The Chronicles of Narnia. • 023 - Jacky Winter's Book Club!

    30/11/2017 Duración: 48min

Jacky Winter Book Club is basically the same as Oprah’s Book Club — just with a few less people and the books are a lot more related to creative project management. In a regular book club, you all read the same book, but we’re all about maximising efficiency here at Jacky Winter so the way we do things is a bit different. Everyone chooses a different work-related book from a big internal list that we keep updated throughout the year, has an allocated amount of time to read it, then we all have a big breakfast together where we go over key insights and takeaways and whether the book is worth reading at all. Who cares if most of us forgot about Book Club and speed-read our books in the last two days? Everyone still came back with some really great tidbits and so today, we’re inviting each member of the Jacky Winter team to give us the low-down on what book they read, what they learnt and whether you should read it too. We are currently looking for new interview subjects! Know a PM, producer, studio manager, ar

  • 021 - Sarah Ewing, SEA Photography Agency

    17/11/2017 Duración: 42min

When Jacky Winter made its foray into Photography many years ago, we did so in partnership alongside producer and agent extraordinaire, Sarah Ewing, and her agency SEA. While SEA and Jacky Winter are separate businesses now, Sarah is still very much part of the extended JW family, and together we learned quite a bit during our years together under the same roof, so it’s a great pleasure to have Sarah back in the studio here to tell us a bit more about what goes on behind the scenes in the life of a photography producer, while at the same time running the nuts and bolts of a business including her dedicated studio space, Atlantic Studios. • 020 - New kid on the blockchain

    10/11/2017 Duración: 36min

If you’ve bought or sold anything in the last few years, you’ve more than likely come across the term Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies. The technology that makes this all happen is called a Blockchain, and if you’re following current trends, it’s the word on the tip of everyone’s tongue. Much like VR and AR, many other industries are still trying to figure out the broader use of the technology, especially the marketing and advertising communities, so we thought we’d dip our toes in and report back our findings for those who might want to stay ahead of the curve in their own practice.
