Empathy and kindness aren’t normally seen as qualities you need to lead a team. But I believe in them so much. A lot of people think of leadership qualities as “paternal” — qualities like being aggressive or stern. I think of them as maternal. This is a huge topic that has been on my mind for the last 12-24 months. It goes back to the advice I constantly give to my community, which is to watch what I do, not what I say. Podcasting and the rise of Alexa voice is here today. For the past 24-36 months, brands and individuals alike have gotten serious about audio. The problem is, there still isn’t a lot of great original content to consume which leaves a massive opportunity for those who can produce on another level. Think of it like Netflix, the companies that create the best originals are going to win. PEOPLE’S OPINIONS: Just don’t matter. Most people get caught up in other people’s opinions because growing up that’s all they knew. They either had parents who made them insecure, were bullied in school, or had a girlfriend or boyfriend who instilled that venom in them. Me? I don’t give a shit. No one’s bias or uncontextualized thoughts are going to bring me down. Nobody can stop me from going where I want to go and so as long as I know my intentions are good and pure, you can keep those opinions to yourself. What’s stopping you from doing the best work of your life? How many people you know truly do the work they love? When I pause to think about it, I discover that the number is far greater than we expected. As someone who tries to take on more than I should, I know what it’s like to juggle many responsibilities. You care so much about what your mom, dad, brother, or friends think that you’re allowing them to dictate your actions in life. At the core of it, the barriers so many people have aren’t really about “money” or “time.” They’re about opinions. It’s the biggest reason so many people are unhappy right now.
