  • The Story Of Tethrd

    30/08/2019 Duración: 01h25min

On this episode, Parker sits down with his friends Walter Lee of Chasing Tales Outdoor Podcast, & Greg Godfrey of Tethrd, at the World Deer Expo in Birmingham, AL. The guys talk about how Tethrd was formed by average guys that just wanted to be the world’s biggest cheerleaders for saddle hunting. There’s no doubt that they succeeded in that quest! Now, over a year after the birth of Tethrd, they have a full staff of people all over the US working to bring the absolute best saddle on the market to the average hunter. You’re going to hear how the company started, and what brought them to where they are now. The guys also talk about their upcoming trips for this season. Greg has set a goal to be the first recorded hunter to kill an elk out of a saddle. However, this is going to be a tight competition between him, Ernie Power, & Garret Prahl. You should be subscribed to the Tethrd YouTube channel and the DIY Sportsman channel to see who wins this contest this fall! Tethrdnation.com Follow Southern Ground

  • Local Legends Breakdown

    23/08/2019 Duración: 01h19min

There has been so much great feedback from the “Local Legends” series this summer. Thank you all so much for listening! In episode 43, Parker, Drew, and new guest Ted Bright, are breaking down some of the key points that each of our Legends hit on. In a series of podcasts like this, it is very easy to not absorb some of the knowledge that our guests were telling us. So you’re going to get another chance to hear it, and how it could apply to your hunting situation. Thank you to our guests Warren Womack, Jamie McCay, Peter Updike & Rick Kiely for coming on the show and sharing with us. We will be doing this series again next year. If you have any guests in mind, hit us up on Facebook: Southern Ground Hunting, or on Instagram: @southerngroundhunting and let us know who you’d like to hear from next year!

  • Local Legends Series with Rick Kiely

    16/08/2019 Duración: 01h13min

Thanks for tuning in to the last interview of the Local Legends Series. In this episode, we’re going away from our norm and interviewing a Yankee! You read that right! Parker is talking with Rick Kiely, or @double_lungerrrr on instagram, from Southern New York about how he kills mature whitetails in high pressure areas. This is especially good for the southern hunter because most of our public areas down south would be considered high pressure. Rick talks about how he scouts and the tactics that set him up to be successful. TAKE NOTES! Be on the lookout very soon for a recap episode where we will break down some of the key points from each of the legends in this series. Huge thanks to Warren Womack, Jamie McCay, Peter Updike, & Rick Kiely for sharing your passion with all of us! • Pre-Season Gear Prep for the Mobile Hunter with Drew Robbins

    06/08/2019 Duración: 01h23min

This week we’re talking to a newly converted mobile hunter, Drew Robbins. Drew has lived in Alabama for the past 3 years and has dabbled in the idea of mobile hunting, but this year he went all out. No looking back!! He sold all of his ladder stands, lock ons, climbers in exchange for the single most mobile hunting setup on the entire planet… a Tethrd Mantis saddle! Parker and Drew talk a lot about saddle hunting but the conversation is really geared towards, well, gear. The guys talk quite a bit about their performance hunting apparel upgrades from SKRE gear, and how they believe that quality apparel trumps quantity in the game of mobile hunting. If you’re not into gear podcasts, that’s ok. The conversation is really just a couple of guys bull crapping about deer hunting, and getting jacked up about the upcoming deer season. If you’re wanting to start saddle hunting or you just like to show off your saddle hunting gear, Southern Ground Hunting is hosting a Demo Day on August 24th just outside of Birmingham,

  • Transitioning To Public Land with Seth Minter

    18/07/2019 Duración: 01h23min

Thanks for listening to another episode of the Southern Ground Hunting Podcast. Episode 40 was a great conversation with Alabama public land hunter, Seth Minter. Seth is an Alabama transplant, originally from West Texas. The hunting culture is incredibly different in Texas, and Seth admits that it was a culture shock. Perhaps even more difficult was the transition to hunting solely on public land. In this episode, Parker and Seth discuss what led him to make the swap to public and some of the key factors that led him to be more successful each year. January of 2019 was one of those months that hunters dream about for Seth. In this podcast, Seth tells us the crazy events that led him to taking not just one, but two solid Alabama public land giant bucks on back to back weekends. This story proves that sometimes unfortunate events can lead to more success than we could imagine. Plus, it makes the story better. Thanks again for listening! Enjoy!

  • Local Legends Series: Peter Updike

    05/07/2019 Duración: 01h06min

Part 3 of the Local Legends series was very special. On the line, Parker is talking with author, public land advocate, & Florida native, Peter Updike. Being raised around the Ocala National Forest, Peter started hunting at an early age. Parker and Peter discuss the early years of his hunting career, and the passion that he developed to chase whitetails around the public woods of Florida. It’s no secret that Florida is not known for it’s large deer population or for producing quality bucks. However, this is the place that Peter calls home. In this day and age it’s not uncommon to hear hunters complain about the state they are in. “The deer population just isn’t great around here”. If you’re apart of any hunting forums, you hear that often. Peter doesn’t have that excuse. In fact, he loves the fact that hunting is difficult. “It just makes success that much better”, he says. Mr. Updike documented his experiences in his book titled, “Wild Treasures Of An Outdoorsman”. In this book, Peter talks about what our

  • Local Legends Series - Jamie McCay

    21/06/2019 Duración: 01h06min

Thanks for tuning into part 2 of the Local Legends series. This episode was a ton of fun, as Parker gets to interview a local legend from his own neck of the woods. Our guest, Jamie McCay, is an absolute giant buck killer. Not only that, he does it year after year on public land in North Alabama. In this episode, Parker and Jamie discuss some of the tactics that Jamie uses to be successful such as: hunting bluff gaps, in season scouting, how to read buck sign, and a ton more. Jamie tells us how he got into the hunting lifestyle, and how having mentors has shaped the way he hunts to this day. As we continue this series, I want to thank you for all of your support. I hope that you are retaining this information and learning from some of these legends like I have. If you have something specific that’s stuck out to you, let me know by sending me a message on Facebook on the Southern Ground Hunting page or send me a DM on Instagram at @southerngroundhunting. I love hearing how these episodes have influenced you an

  • Local Legend Series with Warren Womack

    06/06/2019 Duración: 01h28min

Welcome to the first episode of the Southern Ground “Local Legends” series. It kicks off with a bang as Parker is joined by a true southern gentleman, the legendary Warren Womack. At 75 years old, Mr. Womack has story after story of his successful time spent in the Louisiana woods over the years. He discusses the tactics that have put over 350 deer in the back of his truck. That’s an impressive number, but perhaps the most impressive is the fact that most of those were with traditional archery gear. This episode is full of great knowledge, including a great conversation about primary feed trees. They also discuss an aspect of Mr. Womack’s hunting life that is nothing short of impressive. Dating back to the 1960’s, he has documented every single hunt. Not just that, but every detail you can imagine is included in his documentation. There are so many things that earn Warren the title of “Local Legend”, but don’t just read it here! Take a listen! Topics Discussed: Public Land Primary Feed Trees Saddle Hunting Tr

  • Chasing Tales Outdoors with Walter Lee

    09/05/2019 Duración: 01h22min

This episode is for anyone who has ever been out in the turkey woods, had a question about what to do in a certain scenario, and had to pull out your phone to google what your next move should be. This week we’re joined by our friend Joey Bell to talk about tactics involved in chasing southern turkeys, and answering some of these questions we’ve all had from time to time. • The Natural Resources Management Act (S. 47)

    08/03/2019 Duración: 01h18min

This week, Southern Ground is joined by National BHA (Backcountry Hunters & Anglers) board member, Jeff Jones. Jeff served as the Southeast chapter president for years before joining the national board just recently. BHA is a national organization that is committed to protecting our public lands. Jeff gives a brief rundown on what BHA is, and talks about some of the current projects they are working on. However, perhaps one of the big ticket items is the bill S.47, otherwise known as the “Natural Resources Management Act”. The conversation revolves around some of the sections of this bill that will directly affect our own public lands here in the south. It is sometimes easy to forget that people are fighting on the front lines to protect our freedoms. Jeff and BHA is doing a great job to ensure that we have these wild places for generations to come. • Saddlepalooza

    21/02/2019 Duración: 51min

Southern Ground headed to the South Georgia swamps in search of wild hogs last weekend. Every year, saddle hunters from all over the US meet up for an event known as "Saddlepalooza". We camp out, eat good food, show off our gear, and sometimes we even chase a few pigs around the woods. The hunting is really second to the good food and fellowship. This week, Parker is joined once again by the brains behind the operation, Greg Godfrey. They talk about some of the highlights of the trip, and reminisce on the good times shared by all at camp. Saddle hunters are a weird breed of folks. They’re tinkerers and DIYers. When they’re not hanging from a tree, you can find them in their garage or basement, coming up with the next biggest plan to shave a couple ounces off their pack weight. When you get them all together, chaos and good times are sure to ensue. 07/02/2019 Duración: 01h55min

Happy One Year!! We want to thank everyone for all of the support this year and we hope to continue bringing you great content for years to come. For this episode, we decided to do something special with our friends from The Southern Outdoorsmen, Andrew Maxwell & Jacob Meyers. We thought it would be cool to talk about how some of our tactics have changed this season, and some of it may surprise you. We get into talking about wind based bedding, leeward sides of the ridge, & other topics all revolving around the method we all know and love… Beast Hunting. Specifically how it relates to deer hunters in the south. You’re not going to want to miss this episode! As the season winds down for us in Alabama, and most of the US, we know you’re mind is already on next season. We’re going to be putting together a scouting hangout for anyone who is interested in learning more about our methods, as well as hearing from some of you and how you scout during the offseason. If this sounds like something you would be i

  • The Public Land Questionnaire with The Whitetail Guru

    25/01/2019 Duración: 01h02min

Thanks for listening to the Southern Ground Hunting Podcast! On episode 27, we have a special treat. We actually got to steal someone else’s podcast episode and put it on our own feed! Our friend, Nathan Unger of The Whitetail Guru, wanted to do an episode with Parker about having a very successful Alabama season, and was gracious enough to let us use the same episode for our feed. You’re definitely going to enjoy this conversation as we dive pretty deep into the tactics that we use nearly every time we step into the woods. It would be a disservice not to at least mention here that our good friend Michael Pike finally got to shed some blood this week. We’ve made his tough season a topic of every episode lately, so it’s nice to see that his hard work paid off! Subscribe to the Sportsman’s Nation YouTube channel to be one of the first to see the video of Mike’s buck when it’s finished. • Mobile Hunting In The Mountain State with Jared Shaffer

    16/01/2019 Duración: 01h14min

This week on Southern Ground, we’re joined by Mr. Flinginairos himself, Jared Shaffer. As a West Virginia resident, Jared understands what it’s like to be a hardcore whitetail hunter in an area where the deer density is low, the bag limits are liberal, and the terrain is brutal. Instead of making excuses, Jared combats tough hunting with remaining mobile and has been extremely successful in doing so. In this episode, we go into detail with Jared on some of the mobile hunting tactics he has put into practice in order to consistently get on good bucks each season on both public and private ground. This season has been one to remember for Jared, as he was able to put a good buck on the ground in 3 different states. In other news, Mike is still working hard to fill a buck tag on Alabama public land. He tells us about a few close encounters he has had, as well as a miss last week on a big buck that will haunt him for awhile. To add to the list of disappointments from this week, Parker tells us about how he destroy

  • Southern Ground | Late Season In The South

    28/12/2018 Duración: 01h09min

This week on the Southern Ground Hunting Podcast, we’re discussing our late season game plan to get bucks on the ground. Parker and Mike are joined by Mike’s brother, Heath Pike, as they talk about how strategies change as the season progresses. Mike and Heath are recording from deer camp in North Alabama, but Parker is coming at us from Florida. After hunting in “the sunshine state” for one day, it’s become clear why the non-resident deer license is so cheap. It may be a gamble, but with a cheap tag, it’s hard to pass up. The conversation turns to the topic of dog hunting in Florida, as Parker tells us about some interesting encounters he has had with some of the local dog hunters on this piece of public land. Wherever you are hunting, late season in the south can be a beneficial time to be in the woods. Concentrating on late food sources and new bedding areas could be the golden ticket. Or you might just get lucky on an evening sit on a green field. Whatever your tactics, we wish you good luck and a happy n
