This week we’re talking with Alabama native & traditional archery hunter, Ammon McKinney. We discussed his best season ever that consisted of a dwarf buck he harvested named “Odd Job”, but the focus of our conversation was his legendary tracking dog, Woodrow. Ammon talks with us about how Woodrow became the tracking machine that he is today, and what he believes were the most important factors in his success. Ammon was also kind enough to recommend several different blood trailing resources for hunters in the south. You may never need a tracking dog, but when you do, you’ll be glad you have this info.

Whoever has said the South doesn’t have big deer have obviously not spoken to our new friend, Edward Cook. Not only is this guy just a giant slayer, he also does it on public land. We focus on a specific giant buck that Edward harvested on a special draw WMA hunt, but we also talk about opportunities all over the South that hunters have to chase big bucks on public land through these special draw permits. Aside from this episode being rich in information, Edward is also just a fun guy to listen to as you can hear the passion he has for the pursuit of monster public land whitetails.

On today’s episode, we get to talk to Blake Echols about how he had a true weekend to remember while chasing late season Alabama whitetails on a hunting club he got to hunt as a guest. As you’ll hear, Blake is one of the most sincere guys around and truly deserved this more than anyone I’ve ever met. I’m so confident that you are going to like Blake that I have brought him on the Southern Ground team as a co-host to the show. So plan on hearing a lot more from Blake in the future.
