It’s based on the the sneaky little parable Jesus tells the crowd in Matthew 7: “You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! One of Rick’s friends sometimes asks, as a kind of greeting, “How’s your relationship with Satan?” He always follows that with: “We all have one.” It’s a lighthearted way to surface a real issue. Satan is called “the enemy of God,” and Jesus tells us the Kingdom-standard for love is “loving our enemies and praying for those who persecute us.” Does that mean we’re, somehow, supposed to love the enemy of God?
