Let's give Bass Patrol their flowers Bass Patrol was a Miami Bass group signed to Jose Armada Jr.'s Joey Boy Records, although technically, two separate groups. The first Bass Patrol made waves with their debut album Rock this Planet in 1988. The sound was a vocoder-driven Electro Bass album released on the heels of the era's successful tracks by similarly themed acts Dynamix II, Maggotron, and MC A.D.E. The project seemed to be spearheaded by Calvin and Carlton Mills, Joey Boy Records' in-house production team (also known as Rock Force), and featured Miami area radio DJ Eddy Mix. As this entity, Bass Patrol released little else and found limited success. Joey Boy Records was known to own acts' names and reassign them to new groups. In this case, the label signed Orlando area producer DJ Fury and rapper RX Lord, then assigned them the Bass Patrol moniker. The duo was far less Electro-oriented. AKA fixed #2 :) Not necessarily a mix...just an effort to right a terrible wrong. To me, Broken was a perfect Nine Inch Nails album because it was loaded with bangers and nothing else. The Fragile had about 40 minutes of bangers along with at least an hour of bloat that I just took a blowtorch to in my DAW. It's funny, I remember that it shifted massive numbers the week it came out. I bought it (paying a premium double-cd price) and, by the time I even got home, hated it. There would be a banger, then nothing audible for minutes at a time because all I could hear was tire/road noise from my college beater car. God, I resented this album for that. Of course, to add insult to injury, all the damn songs ran together so I couldn't simply dub the bangers to a minidisc or cassette back in 1999... Within a week I'd lent it to my best friend and never asked for it back.
