S2Ep.10 Knowing Type 1
11/11/2019 Duración: 01h13minOh Hi Type 1s and Nones!! We're in the middle of National Diabetes Awareness Month and today's episode couldn't have been more perfect to celebrate the occasion!! I have on Type 1 guest Ekram and Type 1 guest and Ekram's husband, Jesse and we get into what I think to be the very core of what this month of awareness is all about. Ekram tells us her story of being diagnosed after her older sister had already been diagnosed with Type 1 years earlier. But despite this familiarity with the condition, Ekram still found Type 1 to be a tough road to navigate because there's knowing about Type 1 and then there's KNOWING Type 1. Jesse tells us of a very memorable low that he helped Ekram get through and shows us the many different ways that Type Nones can be there for the Type 1s in their lives. I also introduce my VERY challenging plan to finish out this National Diabetes Awareness Month so cozy up in your favorite podcast-listening chair and listen up to the newest episode of Ask Me About My Type 1!! In honor of said Type 1 themed month, I have for you a family episode of Ask Me About My Type 1. Much like Type 1, Family is always there, they can be kind of annoying sometimes, and there is no cure. The typical Type 1 story is that of parents or siblings learning to support their Type 1 who is still and child and under their constant care. But what happens when your Type 1 is all grown up and already out of the house? Well, that's where my Type 1 guest Andrea and her sister Type None sister Jackie come in: Andrea was an adult and not even on the same side of the country as her sister Jackie and the rest of her family when she was diagnosed. It's a perspective on the adult Type 1 experience that I had never heard before so I had to share it with all of you. It's family night on Ask Me About My Type 1 Dia-Peoples so find your seat at the family dinner

S2Ep.05 When Type 1s Can't
23/09/2019 Duración: 01h34sType 1 Diabetics can do ANYTHING!! It's a beautiful sentiment about perseverance and determination and how the indomitable spirit of each and every person out there living that Type 1 life can overcome any challenges that this condition of ours throws at us. But as inspiring as this message can be the fact is that it just isn't true. I mean that phrase is ALWAYS followed up by the classic exceptions: military service and flying planes. But while most of us are okay with skipping 5 am PT and not living out of one of those rolly suitcases, there are Type 1s out there who want those very things. Case in point: my Type 1 guest Danielle who was diagnosed while studying to become a commercial airline pilot with hopes of joining the military. Type None guest and Danielle's best friend Roejean joins us as Danielle tells of how frustrating the above phrase can be when Type 1 is literally the only thing hold you back and I learn what it really means when we say Type 1s can't fly planes. So fasten those seatbelts and p

S2Ep.04 Why So Serious Type 1?
16/09/2019 Duración: 01h16minOh hi, Dia-Peoples and Type Nones alike! Ask Me About My Type 1 is back with a VERY spicy episode with some extremely thought-provoking Qs. I have on Type 1 Erin along with Type 1 None friend Jillian and the three of us get into some of the more stark realities of Type 1 Diabetes: The fear of missing a late-night low and never waking back up. How the only medication that keeps us alive can also kill us. And how we will most likely have this for the rest of our lives. Erin goes on to tell us about the moment when the Type 1 community helped her push past her initial fears of these darker Type 1 truths and how Type 1 got her to where she is today. We also learn that, much like the Tide pod, Omnipods are NOT for eating either: THE MORE YOU KNOW, DIA-PEOPLE!! S2Ep.03 Smalltown Type 1
09/09/2019 Duración: 01h11minHowdy y'all! We're heading out to the middle of America to hear a voice that so often gets overlooked, that of the smalltown Type 1. We talk a lot about the ways that Type 1 can affect, or even interfere with, our lives but there are so many instances when life itself can affect the way we experience our Type 1. Which is why this week I have on Kameran, who tells us all about the very specific challenges that Type 1s from rural communities like her face on a daily basis. Things like living hours away from her endocrinologist, or EVERYONE in town knowing her name but not willing to talk about her Type 1 because they didn't want to make her feel bad, or literally being only one of two Type 1s in her entire town, the other being her younger brother. It's a first hand account of the smalltown Type 1 experience and the Type 1 journey that all of us must navigate no matter where we come from. S2 BONUS The Mental Health Side of Type 1
05/09/2019 Duración: 49minSPECIAL ALERT!! SPECIAL ALERT!! BONUS EPISODE!! BONUS EPISODE!! No this is not a drill Dia-Peoples and Type Nones! In honor of Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month Ask Me About My Type 1 is releasing a bonus episode where I bring Jen Bartels back on to talk about her experience with anxiety and depression and how she feels both have been effected by her recent Type 1 diagnosis. It's an honest discussion about the very real psychological toll that Type 1 can take and one that I urge all of us to be part of this month. If you find yourself struggling, you're not alone. If you're in need of help, reach out. Friends, family, mental health professionals; there are so many people out there that care about you and want to understand what you're going through so they can help. S2Ep.02 It's Not Always Sunny with Type 1
02/09/2019 Duración: 59minIt's a star-studded episode this week, Dia-babies, as I sit down and talk into my laptop mic with actress, writer, and comedian Jennifer Bartels alongside our Type None guest and her boyfriend, Vance. In addition, to be the most famous of my guest, Jen is also the most recently diagnosed Type 1 I've had on yet and her story gives a really interesting and eye-opening look into the not so bright side of Type 1. The first few years after diagnosis can be hectic for anyone, but imagine having to do it in your 30s when you thought you had life pretty well figured out. Jen tells us what it's been like learning how to be her own pancreas for the past two years as she navigates auditions, exercise, and social situations while Vance talks to us about just how frustrating it is not even knowing what you don't know but how candy can now solve a lot of Jen's problems. So check your toxic positivity at the door, prepare for some cold hard truthy realness, and don't forget to duck and cover (you'll see what I mean) on this

S1Ep.11 Maggie and Lucy
06/05/2019 Duración: 55minIt's a Blehar family episode of Ask Me About My Type 1 this time around as I have on friend of the show and Type 1 guest from Episode 1, Maggie, and her sister Lucy. I hear Maggie's diagnosis story again but this time from Lucy's perspective and her initial thoughts after learning about her big sister's diagnosis. Lucy comes in with some high quality Q's that get Maggie and I thinking about just how much of our brains are dedicated to Type 1 management and how the rest of Life fits in. We also get into our thoughts on the annoyingly ignorant portrayal of Type 1 and Diabetes that are "Diabetes jokes" (#dobetterjimmy) and Lucy tells us how she hopes to fix it. And did I mention that the banger intro track you're about to hear was produced by Maggie and Lucy's brother Sam? It's a very Blehar episode this Monday, Type 1s and Type Nones and you are not going to want to miss it!
