In translating poetry, I seek to convey not just the meaning of the original but to honour the structures too, in this case Rimbaud's rhyming structure of ABAB in the original French. THE GOURMET GOSPEL. The spirit of accusation finds it expression on Earth through modern-day pharisees. This "brood of vipers" make pretense of holiness and quote Scripture, even as they kill and destroy. Similarly, Donald Trump, in his first address to the United Nations, sandwiched his threats to "totally destroy" other nations between an opening call to "the almighty God who made us all" and his closing benediction, "God bless the nations of the world. THE GOURMET GOSPEL. Like every good story, even the story of God's grace "needs a villain." That villain, of course, is Satan, who "is in the Paradise-spoiling business." His chief tactics are: masquerading as an angel of light, spawning lies, and accusing the faithful. In the latter role, Satan resorts to microscopic inspections, "straining out gnats," to quote the metaphor Christ used. But through an imagined scenario of a courtroom drama, Abdiel demonstrates how the prosecutor is stripped of his "evidence," outsmarted and outclassed by Christ, and ultimately humiliated. THE GOURMET GOSPEL. To Hell with diets! That is the Bible's resounding message for us. Having laid out his own struggles with an eating disorder, Abdiel explains how a deeper understanding set him free and goes on to set YOU free! It starts with realizing that in your true nature, you are not an overeater nor an addict. That fictitious identity is dead, and you are now naturally aligned both with the will of God and with what is healthy. Furthermore, with the removal of Law, there is no boundary line available that you could cross into "overeating". In short, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR YOU TO BE AN OVEREATER IN WHO YOU ARE, AND IT IS IMPOSSBLE FOR YOU TO OVEREAT IN WHAT YOU DO!!! Abdiel also overturns the fraudulent tables of both the dieting industry and low-fat food products, and explains why both are a complete con-trick! THE GOURMET GOSPEL. Art operates in the pre-Law state of innocence that preceded knowledge of "good" and "evil", to bring about "a heavenly effect in an earthly actor." There is no place for rules, whether in writing, language, acting, or any other form. If the artist becomes aware of doubt, returning to innocence comes about by an act of imagination—or "intense visualization"—such as turning one's focus to a symbol. The artist is a priest, embodying the ministry of that Christ-like god Dionysus in his death and resurrection. Meanwhile, the true critic—or preferably, reviewer—is as a "handmaiden" serving art, but those who "could not win the mistress, wooed the maid." Some even earned themselves a place in Inferno for their Violence to Art!

Abdiel returned to Buenos Aires in May 2019, once again to experience the city's musical enchantments. This poem is a tribute to the Tango sextet Astillero, which includes Alexey Musatov, also a violinst with the Orquesta Tipica Fernandez Fierro, to which Abdiel's poem 'Encendido' is devoted. THE GOURMET GOSPEL. Abdiel explores specific freedoms afforded by the Grace of God, including when or if to forgive. He denounces simplistic “forgive-and-forget” prescriptions—whether advocated by church or state. He then explores sexual freedoms, pointing out that sexual shame is “mankind’s oldest affliction” and that “shame, secrecy, and fear have ever colluded to defame sex.”

THE GOURMET GOSPEL. When "All the world's a stage," our feelings are a medium of theatrical invention, sometimes rooted in distorted beliefs and traumas. But divine light may shine on that stage in the form of "sacred sorrow," "divine depression," and "angelic anger."
