If you wait for all your ducks to be in a row you will be waiting a very long time and either never make the change, or something not good will happen to force a move at some point - neither of which is a great outcome for you.So in this episode Shandra has a bit of a rant, shares some examples and gives you an invitation to make some sort of start towards working out what might be next for you..."The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now"Chinese proverbThank you for listening.

  • Do you have 'Sideline Critics' who get vocal when you want to create some sort of change?

    11/08/2019 Duración: 17min

This episode is a spin off from last week’s episode – ‘5 things working women can learn from ninja warrior’ because at the end of that episode I realized there was a lot more I could have talked about and one of those things was about the impact of side line critics….We all have side line critics in our lives and they become especially vocal when you're wanting to do something different from what you’ve been doing for work…Recently I’ve been doing some interviews with women who have made significant career change [they are for upcoming episodes of the podcast – so stay tuned for those very soon!] and one of the things that is a bit of a common theme is the impact of the people around them and what they say and think about the change they were wanting to make – both positively and negatively. When you're thinking of making a significant career change it’s natural for there to be fear and uncertainty – and if you have someone in your life telling you all the reasons you shouldn’t change, or being opinionated abo

    21/07/2019 Duración: 25min

This episode is part 2 of a 3 part 'mini-series' about the 3 stages of career change, so if you haven’t listened to part 1 you might want to go and listen to that as a lead in to this one…As a quick recap – when you're wanting to make some sort of career change you can want it to all just happen, for things to just hurry up so you can just be at the other side; where you’re suddenly, magically in a new role or doing something new and you’re enjoying it and earning great money and just generally loving life… and whilst that sounds like a nice place to get to - and it is... - it rarely happens as quick as you might like it to...Unfortunately it can take time to get the clarity that you need on what’s next and how to get there, to do the things you need to do to make it happen – and so through looking back at my own experience making career change several times - and from all the many clients I have worked with to make change in their work life, I've identified 3 main phases in career change … so wanted to shar

  • How to leverage your language

    09/06/2019 Duración: 11min

There is so much power and influence in the words you use.I have always loved reading - still do, when I make the time for it - and I've had a common theme of communication throughout my working life, in different ways and so words and language is important to me.One thing I often hear as feedback from others is people saying things like "you're so good with words". In fact literally just minutes after I finished recording this episode about language I had a message from a friend asking me to help her with some words to handle a situation she was in! She said she remembered me saying something when we last spoke that she thought was really well said so wanted to use in an email. In short I care about words and the impact they have on yourself and others.Recently I have been playing around with a few alternatives to a common phrase we say to make it more empowering….So this episode I share that phrase and some options of what you could say instead to make it feel more positive.Would love to know what you think
