Samhain, celebrated October 31 to November 1st, is an ancient Celtic festival to welcome in the harvest, and to usher in the dark half of the year. It is seen as a time to wrap up the old and prepare for the new in our lives. It is also seen as a time when the veil between the living and the spirit world is at its thinnest, allowing you to communicate and honor loved ones that have passed. The Ouija Board, also known as a spirit or talking board, is a flat board marked with the letters of the alphabet, the numbers 0-9, the words "yes", "no, and "goodbye", and is used to communicate with the spirits of those that have died. With the aid of a small heart-shaped device called a planchette, you can ask the spirits a question, and they supposedly answer by centering the planchette on the various letters, numbers, or words on the board. The Green Children of Woolpit are two children, a brother and sister, who showed up in the town of Woolpit in the 12th century. They had a green hue to their skin, were wearing clothing made from a strange material, and spoke a language no one could understand. Despite starving, the children wouldn't eat any of the food given to them by the townspeople until someone brought them raw broad beans several days later. They survived for months on only the beans until eventually they began to eat other foods. In July of 1924, a group of gold prospectors reportedly encountered multiple Bigfoot on the east flank of Mt. St. Helens, where they hastily fired their guns on them. The violence proved to be a mistake. That night, their cabin was assailed by a barrage of rocks, and they heard, and felt, giant bodies slamming against the walls and doors. The battle carried on the entire night, and when the sun came up, the hairy beasts broke off their attack and slipped away. Summerwind Mansion, considered Wisconsin's most haunted house, is located on the shores of West Bay Lake. Robert the Doll is a life-size, century old doll that is stuffed with wood wool, wearing a sailor outfit, and carrying his own toy dog. The sheepsquatch, also known as the "White Thing", is a quadruped creature about the size of a bear with white wool-like fur that roams the Appalachian mountains, primarily the southwestern region of West Virginia. It has a long pointed head, similar to a dog, long, saber-like teeth, and ram-like horns. Unlike many other cryptids, its tail is long and hairless like that of an opossum. When it is near, it emits an odor similar to sulfur. On September 12, 1952 at 7:15 P.M., in the small town of Flatwoods, WV, three young boys saw a bright object cross the sky and land in a nearby farmer's property. They immediately went to investigate, along with several other children, a dog, and an adult. After climbing a hill, they came across a large pulsating ball of fire, detected a pungent mist that burned their eyes and nose, and heard a steady metallic whining noise. It was at that point that they took notice of a large creature. It stood approximately 10-12 feet, had a dark black or green body, and it's face was red and shaped like an ace of spades. Schwarzwald, known as the Black Forest, is a large forested mountain range in southwest Germany. It is roughly oblong in shape and is 160 km (99 mi) long and 66 km (41 mi) wide. It is a very dense, dark and atmospheric place, which is why many legends about witches, dwarfs and werewolves have been born there and passed along through the generations. Many famous German tales are believed to be set there, including the famous stories of Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood, and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Tombstone, Arizona was established in 1879 by prospector Edward Schieffelin after he discovered silver ore in the surrounding area. Within a few years, the town grew immensely, but so did the tension between the the ranchers, cowboys and lawmen. Because of this, there were many shootouts that resulted in death, possibly causing the town itself to be haunted. Momo, the Missouri Monster, is a large, 7 ft tall hairy bipedal creature similar to Bigfoot. He has a large, pumpkin-shaped head, with black hair covering most of his body, which resembles a shag carpet. He is said to have 3 fingers and toes, emits a terrible body odor, and has been known to be aggressive towards other animals.Although sightings of the Missouri Monster have occurred since the mid-1900's, it wasn't until July 1972, that he got a lot of attention. On August 21, 1955, a family was besieged for several hours by goblin-like creatures at a remote Hopkinsville, Kentucky farmhouse. The creatures had large, bat-like ears, were bald and 3-4 feet tall, had large, glowing yellow eyes, and had long arms with large claws at the end. The family defended the property by shooting at them for hours, only to have no effect, reportedly hearing metallic clinging noises when the bullets hit their target. Later, police were unable to find any evidence of the creatures, and it was suggested that what the family saw were Great Horned Owls.Almost 60 years later, and on the other side of the state, a man claimed to have experiences with similar creatures on his remote Kentucky property. The Mogollon Monster is a bipedal humanoid creature that is seen along the Mogollon Ridge in central and eastern Arizona. It is known to be over 7 feet tall, have large red eyes, covered in black or reddish hair, and like most Bigfoot-like creatures, has an incredibly strong and pungent odor. It is nocturnal, and can mimic other wildlife, even emitting a whistling sound. They can be very territorial, and have been known to throw rocks at hikers. Sightings of these creatures are reported as going back to the early 1800’s when settlers of the area started having run ins with the monster in the canyons and forests of the region. Local Native Americans within the region have also long told stories about big hairy men who lived within the forests and canyons. They even have a few legends where a rival stole a chief's wife, so he had the medicine man transform the thief into this creature, where still roams the area. Is the Mogollon Monster a cousin to Bigfoot, or could it be a thief who is forever being punished?
