  • SMI Podcast: It Shouldn't Be This Hard - Aisha Sultan

    10/09/2019 Duración: 32min

Read the full report on Missouri school performance data here: https://showmeinstitute.org/publication/accountability/report-missouris-report-card-and-essa-requirements The 2015 federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) includes a requirement intended to keep parents informed about the quality of the schools their children attend: States must produce “report cards” on their performance at the state, district, and local levels. The ESSA lists the data that must be included, so in theory, parents and other stakeholders can learn where a school or district is doing well and where improvement is needed. • SMI Podcast: Transparency for Some

    30/08/2019 Duración: 16min

On August 28, 2019, the Show-Me Institute filed suit against Missouri’s Office of Administration for violating the state’s Sunshine Law. Government entities may think they can get away with these excuses because too few citizens are able to invest the time money and emotional energy required to pursue a legal fight to keep these government entities transparent and accountable. We have determined that this case is a crucial opportunity to ensure equality in government transparency for all Missourians. • SMI Pod: Designed To Be Worthless - The Incentive Study That Wasn't

    13/06/2019 Duración: 27min

Read the full report: http://bit.ly/2wdvNEa Recently, Patrick Tuohey held a press conference about the findings in the report: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyVBIJ59yIo&t= Kansas City’s recent study of economic development incentives found that such incentives offer a return on investment almost four times that which was invested. This dramatic discovery runs counter to the vast majority of research on the value of such economic development subsidies. Based on multiple open records requests over the past few months, it appears the $350,000 “Kansas City Incentives Study” was fatally flawed from its inception and completely unresponsive to the city council’s directive.
