She shared how her husband also abused her, and caused an accident that paralyzed Christa while she was pregnant as a result of sexual assault. Christa talked openly about her struggles and how she found the strength to escape her situation. Julia Maki Pyrah and Nicholas Cotroneo are coauthors of the recently released book, Guardians: Stories of the 2020 Civil Unrest in Washington. Their book describes Julia’s firsthand experience as a member of the DC Air National Guard, and her deployment in response to the violent riots in Washington DC, this past June. The orders Julia and the rest of the National Guard received were to protect the protestors who were exercising their right to peacefully assemble. Former Law Enforcement Officer Jason Schechterle and Former SEAL Jason Redman both have incredible stories of courage and resilience. Jason Schechterle was caught in a fiery explosion when his police cruiser was struck from behind and burst into flames. He was thought to be dead at the scene, but upon discovery that he was still alive, Jason was rushed to a top burn unit, where he defied all odds and lived to tell his story. Jason Redman was on a mission with his SEAL Team when they were ambushed and pinned down by enemy fire. Jason was shot several times and, too, was expected to die. Major Capers experienced extreme racism growing up in the Jim Crow South, and even while training and working his way up to becoming a decorated officer in the United States Marine Corps. Marine Corps veteran Eric Post has been in the thick of chaos since the first riots began in Portland Oregon. He's a Portland resident and business owner who gives back to his community he and his family love being a part of. When the riots first began, Eric took to the streets in an attempt to broker peace. He spoke with people from all walks of life, from both sides of this divide: police officers, BLM members, rioters, peaceful protestors, and others who are directly impacted by the riots or directly involved in them. His goal is to uncover the humanity beneath it all.Eric and his team were in DC to document the rally.
