Picking two hours worth of new heavy metal is a double edged sword; the kind of sword Cirith Ungol and Manilla Road sing about. On one hand it's a great excuse to spend my free time listening to truck-loads of new music, on the other hand I have to spend my time listening to truck-loads of new music. I miss you Cirith Ungol and Manilla Road...

It's episode 52 for this heavy metal podcast, and even though this is a weekly show it's actually been going for a bit more than a year; the first couple of months were bi-weekly and I have of course missed a few weeks here and there for. But let's just go ahead and say it's been a year of spotlighting new underground heaviness since I never properly celebrated that milestone.

Welcome to this week's roundup of new metal. This week's bunch hails from the US, UK, Slovenia, Sweden, Singapore, Finland, Poland, Portugal Italy, Greece, Spain, Mexico, Canada, Ukraine, and Germany.

Here's the big five oh. Fifty episodes of this little heavy metal podcast, and it's going strong with no midlife crisis in sight. Many hails to all the regular listeners that have signed on to the weekly cacophony; it's good to know the bands that I play on every episode are getting some exposure.

If you're a metalhead, then you've heard the question, "Are you angry?" when your music is overheard by 'normals' at least 243,198 times in your life. And we all know it's not the music that makes us angry; it's the asshat asking the question.

If there's one thing that can be respected about heavy metal, it's the honesty. Just like how I honestly love putting these together each week because it gives me an excuse to drown my brain in a constant onslaught of loud, horrific-sounding cacophony.

If you can think of a better way to start off the week than with a giant block of new heavy metal, don't tell me about it because I like having an excuse to produce this ugly little duckling of a podcast. And besides, for some reason this is one of the few music-only heavy metal podcasts out there that doesn't do talk or interviews, which means I can tell myself that I'm doing some kind of service to the community. Let me have my ego trip.

If you're back for more of what I shovel at your ears every week that means you're a real glutton for sonic punishment, considering the black/death rabbit hole I've been wandering down lately. As the show has gone on it seems the average songs I pick just get nastier and more unforgiving, not unlike a junkie needing a stronger dose for each spike. And more people listen each week, which just means we're all just a bunch of heavy metal junkies, eh?

I'm convinced that heavy metal is good for the soul, even if that soul is damned to eternal hellfire for listening to metal in the first place. Which is why I do this podcast every week; to make you feel good while sending you straight to Satan's mosh pit.

Black Lion Records is a newer label, formed in 2015 in the northern Sweden city of Umeå. While a relatively small town, Umeå is nonetheless known as a hotbed of musical output, especially in the world of heavy metal, having been the breeding ground for such acts as Meshuggah, Naglfar, Cult of Luna, Refused, Nocturnal Rites, and many more, including a number of newer groups on Black Lion's roster.

Here's this week's batch of new metal from the global underground. It's pretty heavy on the death and black, but there's definitely some curve-balls thrown in for good measure, like some stoner tunes and a little prog rock.

Here's your 2-hour lump of new underground metal for this week. And when I say underground, I really do mean it; this stuff is dug up from some awfully obscure parts of the metal world at large. Said parts including the likes of the US, Spain, Germany, Italy, Chile, Finland, Iceland, Canada, UK, France, Hungary, and Australia.

Hope everyone got some good headbanging in with last week's twenty-episode round-up, I like doing those extra sized ones. Which is why the new show length is a regular two hours, up from a measly one. Double the time = double the new underground heavy fucking metal to play.

Well, we're twenty deep again with episode 40, so this week is another 2-hour compilation of my top picks since then.

Nothing will warm you up in these frigid days like some good ol' brutal heavy metal. And this week is pretty brutal too, not much clean material and when it does show up it definitely keeps the right mood going.
