We started with our Super Bowl memories on the 20th anniversary of Super Bowl XL. What were we doing? Where were we in life? For us, it was the first time seeing the Steelers win a championship. Chris shared a funny story about running around Oakland. Poni was in upstate New York at a bar underaged. Donny was 10, watching with his dad, with fond memories of the journey through elementary school during that playoff run.

How are we feeling about the Steelers staff now that the coordinators have been hired? The guys wanted more youth in those spots, but with Mike McCarthy being 62, he didn’t actually lie about getting guys younger than him. The guys aren’t over-the-moon about the hires, but the expansion of the staff is nice. 93.7 The Fan Sports Director Jeff Hathhorn joined the show. The guys reacted to some news regarding Gavin McKenna after the outdoor game at Penn State. Jeff doesn’t remember much of Brian Angelichio at Pitt, but he remembers how much of a football guy he is. Jeff told the guys that Omar Khan has been involved in a lot of the coaching interviews that have taken place so far. Jeff speculated what could have gone wrong in the Scott Tolzien interview that made him return to New Orleans. The Pirates have signed Mike Clevinger, who pitched in the World Series back in 2016 as a rookie. He was a good starter before COVID, but since then, not so much. The guys don’t think he will factor into their future plans after signing a minor league deal. Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Pirates have their eyes on Framber Valdez, who is the biggest pitcher still on the market. Do they really have a shot at him though? Poni doesn’t think the Pirates will be sellers at the deadline this season. Is there a better park for left-handed pitchers than PNC? It looks like, based on personal bios, Angelichio doesn’t have a family and is married to football. The guys also got into the hiring of Joe Whitt Jr., who has been working in the NFL since his late 20’s. Big Game Trivia. Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. Mike said any time you have an offensive coach connected to Kevin O’Connell, it’s not a bad thing. He called the Brian Angelichio hiring ‘encouraging’ even though the plays will be called by Mike McCarthy. Speaking of the Vikings, with the change at GM, Mike doesn’t think we can rule out Aaron Rodgers finally ending up in Minnesota. Mike just cannot see Rodgers being done in the NFL with his final throw being a pick six. Mike was interrupted mid-interview by Justin Jefferson. We are still waiting on the Steelers to name their next offensive coordinator. There was a lot of smoke around Scott Tolzien, but he decided to stay with the Saints. The early rumblings are that the Steelers never offered Tolzien the job and felt like he was too inexperienced. There is now scuttlebutt that Brian Angelichio is the new frontrunner to be the team’s OC – a former Pitt TE coach. Angelichio is currently the pass game coordinator with the Vikings, which has been a strong offense under Kevin O’Connell. Name Game.

Is Mason Rudolph the forgotten man yet again? Everyone is showing love for Will Howard and others are talking up the return of Aaron Rodgers while Rudolph just sits around. Does Rudolph fit into what Mike McCarthy can do? Rudolph is an old school type QB, but are fans completely out on him after 2025? How do callers currently feel about Mason Rudolph? Another Patriot villain was left out of the Hall of Fame – Robert Kraft. He’s actually been on the ballot for quite some time. The Steelers just hired a guy with a Patriots cheating connection – Steve Scarnecchia, whose dad was on the Patriots staff through the 2000s. Steve’s nickname was ‘spygate.’ Steve is being hired as the ‘chief of staff.’ Are the Patriots still hated like they were with Tom Brady and Bill Belichick? Chris argued that the Patriots were never really a rival to the Steelers because it was mostly a one-sided affair. Yes, fans still hate the Patriots. Former MLB pitcher Matt Clement joined the show. Matt’s take to the Pirates not getting Eugenio Suarez is that the team will be pushed to bring up Konnor Griffin faster. He thinks the familiarity Suarez has in Cincy is likely why he chose them over the Pirates.
