The Pirates got their doors blown off by Cristopher Sanchez and the Phillies last night, 8-0. Donny questions whether or not the Pirates were even trying to win the game last night based on the lineup they rolled out. Billy Cook and Endy Rodriguez were in center field and at first base over Jake Mangum and Ryan O’Hearn. Donny thinks that the Pirates’ lineup yesterday was similar to those of the really bad Bucco teams. Callers chime in on the Pirates’ ugly loss last night. Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk joins the show. Mike says that people knew about Chris Johnson’s ALS diagnosis for a little while, but everybody was discreet out of respect for him. Mike says that he is and isn’t surprised that there wasn’t more outcry that football caused Johnson’s diagnosis. Baker Mayfield said that he wants to stay in Tampa Bay recently. There has still been no report of a Baker contract or a report that the Bucs and Baker are close on a deal, but this does not help the Steelers chances of ever acquiring Mayfield. Poni is quite upset about this development, as he wants Baker in Pittsburgh next season. We are less than 24 hours away from the start of NHL Free Agency and the Penguins are reportedly in on one of the biggest fish in the pond – Jason Robertson. Poni wants them to do everything they can in order to acquire his talents. Robertson is a 3X 40-goal scorer and is only 27. Due to Robertson being a restricted free agent, it could require the Penguins to send 4 1st round picks to the Stars if they make him an offer he agrees to (and the team doesn’t match). Poni noted that Robertson has turned down a few other teams already, but the Penguins are still in-play. Penguins reporter Dan Kingerski joined the show. Dan had a hard time understanding the D-for-D trade the Penguins just made sending Parker Wotherspoon to the Golden Knights. What will their third defense pairing look like? Dan believes Ryan Shea will get more money on the open market than what he will get from the Penguins. Dan isn’t in love with the Darnell Nurse idea, describing it as a project that will last at least 4 years. Dan questioned if a massive move like Jason Robertson makes sense for where the Penguins are at right now. He gives it about a 20% chance of happening. Dan pointed out a few names people should have their eyes on going into free agency tomorrow afternoon. He said they need to fortify the blueline.

Ben Cherington essentially said yesterday that the Pirates won’t be making a trade anytime soon. This comes after Gregory Soto gave up a 3-run homer with the Reds down to their last strike two days ago. Poni thinks that trading David Bednar was one of Ben Cherington’s worst moves as the GM of the Pirates. Cherington also said that the bullpen will turn it around and that they have been unlucky. Veteran baseball writer John Perrotto joined the show. John says that it males sense that there aren’t a lot of teams that are ready to sell players yet, citing how the Red Sox just swept the Yankees and have to think twice about shipping off their bullpen arms. Perrotto disagrees with Cherington saying their bullpen is actually good, but does think that some of the Pirates’ bullpen arms are good. John thinks that Aroldis Chapman would make sense for the Pirates if the Red Sox do decide to sell him. The Pirates have now lost 8 straight Paul Skenes starts. Ben Cherington said that Skenes’ dip in velocity is not a cause for concern. Poni compares Skenes’ year to Scottie Scheffler’s year, in the sense that both are still very good, but neither one looks like himself this year.
