  • Medicare For All, Public Option & the Media

    31/07/2019 Duración: 51min

There is a YouTube video where I reviewed a Medicare For All vs the Public Option. There is going to be a lot of noise and mud-slinging as the Democratic debates re-start. Figuring out what is true, what is not, and how it may affect you is important because they are very different, and that involves Medicare coverage, and ultimately, how we will pay for potential expansion of Medicare (it's via taxes). • Disability & Medicare: Be Careful

    29/05/2019 Duración: 11min

You can become eligible for Medicare Part A & B & D after 24 months of receiving Social Security Disability Insurance benefits. However, people make mistakes from that point, and the Social Security Administration's communications of rights and options may not be sufficient for you to understand that the Late Enrollment Penalties "calculation period" for Part B & Part D have started. So either a) you do not have health insurance and creditable coverage for prescriptions, subjecting you to the permanent Late Enrollment Penalties, or b) you have health insurance with prescription coverage from the private market, in which case you are likely paying way too much.Be sure to subscribe and rate on Apple Podcasts! email / feedback: info@maximizeyourmedicare.com

  • Enrollment Windows Closed (Mostly)

    25/04/2019 Duración: 14min

Sorry, it's not the Mother of Thrones Podcast.... Case #1: Medicare Annual Election Period and Open Enrollment Period are over. That means you cannot enroll in Medicare, Medicare Advantage, or Part D, unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period. It's important, because people frequently make mistakes, and there's a twist for those that are late. Case #2: If you have lived abroad and are relocating back to the US, you need to know what you can and cannot do, prior to repatriating. Subscribe and rate the podcast on Apple Podcasts: click here!

  • Medicare For All and Medicare For America

    28/03/2019 Duración: 36min

My comments on the national debate. Caveat: these are going to be entirely different by the time that the Democratic nomination and the general election occur. 100%.

  • Proposed Budget Cuts to #Medicare

    18/03/2019 Duración: 16min

Watch the trailer and read what a retired hospital CEO & CFO says about the book: https://youtu.be/l0ChK-6meDY Here are the "highlights" of the proposed changes to Medicare. Block grants for Medicaid Part D discount doesn't count for your Part D Coverage Gap calculation Lower CMS rates to hospitals The practical reality is that it will be very difficult to pass these. The implications of the proposals are meaningful. Fiscal and demographic pressure exists on the CMS Part D discount not counting will make it more important to check your Part D or MAPD every year While this is going to look like a political fight, these two bullet points exist irrespective of "red state" or "blue state," or whatever other name-calling you will see in the future.  While "anything can happen" is a convenient phrase, these bullets points are not that. They are known, what we have always known, and that people don't understand the implications. Enter a certain book on Medicare matters.

  • MYM Podcast (86): Sellers Are Not Gamblers

    08/03/2019 Duración: 25min

The Wide Gulf Between Uncertainty and Gambling Blue Cross Blue Shield of MI "Legacy Plan C" Example One of the laziest, most inaccurate over-generalizations people make? "We can't predict the future, so insurance is like gambling." Nope and it's an expensive lesson people do learn, and when they do, it is frequently too late. Background In 2016, this Newsletter existed, and you could read "BCBSM Legacy" premiums. It was an alert, that BCBSM held rates artificially low, due to a legal agreement it made, and the expiry date approached. Further, there was a "way out" into alternative, much cheaper and very similar coverage (Plan N). I contacted the carrier after the "free get out" period expired, and stunningly, the carrier told me that over 70% remained in the existing Legacy plan. That told me a number of things: People didn't correctly know the options People didn't believe me It is fine, I call the second point "Tuesday," i.e. this happens all the time. The entirety of every article and the book? We canno

  • MYM Podcast (84): You Don’t Get to Use the Word ‘Emergency’ Easily

    13/02/2019 Duración: 20min

There are three ways that one can get accepted into Medigap without medical underwriting... a. Medigap Open Enrollment. Turning 65, and those that do not have Part B yet. You are safe. b. Medigap Guaranteed Issue. Situations occur (SEPs) which allow acceptance into Medigap Plans A,B,C, F,K, L. This is powerful, but will lose its effective power at the end of 2019. c. Guaranteed acceptance. Entirely depending on the combination of state and carrier, there are some (NOT all) carriers that will allow you to cancel existing group coverage, and enroll in Medigap. This is entirely elective by the carrier and the state, both. See point b? Look at the subset of plans, it is not all of the Medigap plans. Notably absent are Plans G and N, two of the most popular Medigap plans. Plan F is included in that listed subset, but will be closed at the end of 2019 for new enrollees. That effectively reduces / eliminates the power of point b. It's an emergency. I have known this and this set of statements have sat in the depth

  • MYM Podcast (83): Special Video to Introduce GH2 Unfiltered

    07/02/2019 Duración: 15min

The video version of this is posted on the Maximize Your Medicare website: www.maximizeyourmedicare.com. GH2 Unfiltered provides the information that cannot be provided in the book, and cannot be provided for free. The reason is that someone will misinterpret and mishandle the very sensitive information in the service. The video will give you a sneak peak of the site itself. This podcast will describe the reasons why we need a separate, standalone subscription page. You can subscribe here: https://www.gh2benefits.com/gh2unfiltered/

  • MYM Podcast (82): Medicare Advantage Surprise Bill Problems, Can They Be Avoided?

    25/01/2019 Duración: 30min

The problem: it depends. Say you are in a hospital and further testing is required. The samples are analyzed at another provider, even within the same hospital system. That provider may be out of network, and you could be unaware of this fact. Yikes. If you have a Medicare Advantage plan, you may or may not be able to prevent this from occurring. The idea that a law could change this? Unclear. Example #2. Joint replacement surgery, done on an outpatient basis. Here, Medigap will be worse because rehab requires 3-day inpatient hospital stay. Medicare Advantage? Some plans require 3-day inpatient hospital stay, and some do not. You'll need to be verrrrrry careful. Be sure to subscribe to the Maximize Your Medicare Podcast on Apple Podcasts (and rate it!) Official book website: http://www.maximizeyourmedicare.com The 2019 Edition is still only $0.99 on kobo.com for first-time users of the app/website!

  • MYM Podcast (81): Now is the Time to Enroll in Medicare Part B If You’re Late

The effective date for Part A and Part B will be July 1, 2019. In addition, the Late Enrollment Penalty will continue to accrue until July 1, 2019.
