  • [Ch 1] "Noise from the Hearts of Nerds" - “C1E98: Mishmash Monday – vol. 17”

    29/09/2025 Duración: 02h30min

Today’s broadcast is C1E98 for Mishmash Monday, Sept 29th, 2025. Today’s broadcast will be Mishmash Monday – vol. 17 – our final installment in the Mishmash Monday series on Ch 1. Also, while, barring circumstances far beyond my control, this is most certainly not the final episode of Nerd Noise Radio, it is "an end" in a certain manner of speaking. Details in the intro.    A1) Intro - 00:00:00     01) Splash Down - Ristar - Genesis - Tomoko Sasaki - 00:05:54     02) Metropolis Zone - Sonic 2 - Genesis - Masato Nakamura - 00:08:40     03) The Rosetta Stone - Double Dragon 3 - Arcade - Akira Inoue and/or Takaro Nozaki - 00:10:18     04) Menu - Fast Fusion - Switch 2 - Bjulin, and/or Francisco Cerda - 00:13:23     05) Best Tone - Driving Emotion Type S - PS2 - Shinji Hosoe, Ayako Sasō, and/or Takayuki Aihara - 00:16:48     06) Menu 3 - FIFA 94 - 3DO - Jeff van Dyck and/or Graeme Coleman - 00:21:55     07) Challenge Course 2 - Donkey Kong Bananza - Switch 2 - Daisuke Matsuoka, Reika Nakai, Yuri Goto, and/or Tsuk

  • Channel F: "One for Wyatt"

    29/09/2025 Duración: 19min

In this very special edition of Nerd Noise Radio Channel F, St. John's 7yr old son, St. Wyatt makes his Nerd Noise Radio debut (at least, in all the ways that matter). This episode will be a miniature of the Channel 2 format - with only one track!  Circumstances: St. John *MEANT* to include a track from one of Wyatt's iPad games into the mixtape of C1E98: "Mishmash Monday - vol. 17", but realized way too late into that episode's production that he had completely spaced it off.  He briefly considered going back into the mixtape and the voice track and retroactively adding the track. But then decided to instead use the occasion of his complete air-headedness to "turn lemons into lemonade" and and introduce Wyatt into the show - something that had been in the back of St. John's mind since the day Wyatt was born. While Wyatt has yet to master the art of radio communication (I hope everyone likes "salad"), this F-isode absolutely melts my heart!....I hope it will you too! Lastly, I actually really like this t

  • [RERUN] [Ch 1] "Noise from the Hearts of Nerds" - C1E10: Mishmash Monday - vol. 1 (orig. rel. 05/22/17)

    17/09/2025 Duración: 46min

2025 Rerun Notes: In commemoration of this month release of the last-ever Mishmash Monday on Channel 1, I thought I'd rerun the first two installments of the series - both from all the way back in 2017 (Season 1 of the show). Therefore, all the obvious caveats on "absolutely atrocious production quality" and blah blah blah (especially on C1E10, the earlier of the two releases). Though this rerun is "officially" and "canonically" the first "Mishmash Monday" (free play) episode in Nerd Noise Radio history, it is really "Mishmash Monday in name only" as it wasn't truly a free play. Instead, it was designed with a very specific purpose and with each track housing a very specific meaning. Though I explain and elaborate fully in a 2019 special expanded rebroadcast of this episode we called "Chandlerfest", which I'll link to below, for now, the tl;dr is that this mixtape was actually made in commemoration for a friend who died entirely too young in Dec 2016, and whose absence we still feel regularly from here in

  • [RERUN] [Ch 1] "Noise from the Hearts of Nerds" - C1E16: Mishmash Monday - vol. 2 (orig. rel. 10/09/17)

    03/09/2025 Duración: 01h05min

2025 Rerun Notes: In commemoration of this month release of the last-ever Mishmash Monday on Channel 1, I thought I'd rerun the first two installments of the series - both from all the way back in 2017 (Season 1 of the show). Therefore, all the obvious caveats on "absolutely atrocious production quality" and blah blah blah (especially on C1E10, the earlier of the two releases). Though today's rerun is officially, canonically the "second" Mishmash Monday, it's actually the first "for real" Mishmash Monday. The first "actual free play episode". Not that it was produced before C1E10, but released later, but that C1E10 was a "Mishmash Monday" in name only, and was definitely not a true free play. I'll explain in that episode's rerun. But for now, numbers and dates aside, this was our first actual "free play" episode in NNR history. And even though the production quality is so absolutely horrible, I still regard this episode as an excellent collection of music! Easily in our top 50% of show history, and perhaps

  • [Ch F] MAKRANA Soundtrack - feat. Matt Miller of Chronarian Games

    11/08/2025 Duración: 02h10min

Today's "F-isode" is the soundtrack to the upcoming indie game "MAKRANA" designed, developed, and scored by Matt Miller of Des Moines-based Chronarian Games. Matt sits in with St. John at Nerd Noise Studios for a Channel 2-style in-person conversation to discuss the soundtrack and various other matters of varying degrees of relevance. ;-) All tracks from the game MAKRANA, an upcoming game by Chronarian Games for PS5, XBSX and probably other platforms as well. All tracks composed, arranged, and performed by Matt Miller. Tracklist A1) "Production Disclaimer" Earcatcher (St. John on the now NNR-customary $400 Shure SM7B Mic) - 00:00:00 A2) "Episode Opener" Earcatcher (St. John on the now long-deprecated $100 AudioTechnica AT2020 Mic which was the mic St. John used on NNR from 2017-2022) - 00:00:59 01) "ZENITH" (game and track titles all capitalized for stylistic purposes by developer)  a) Music - 00:01:12  b) Discussion and Top-of-Show Business (St. John and Matt sharing a single AT2020) - 00:04:50 02

Today’s broadcast is C1E97 for Soundtrack Saturday, July 26th, 2025. Today’s soundtrack is the Super Metroid soundtrack on the Super NES, composed by Kenji Yamamoto and Minako Hamano. • [RERUN] [Ch 1] "Noise from the Hearts of Nerds" - NERD NOISE CROSSOVERS: “C1E64: ThreeFer Thursday” (orig rel. 05/12/22)

    25/07/2025 Duración: 02h53min

2025 Rerun Notes: A very unique episode in show history, the only time we ever did a "ThreeFer". It's a bit of a long episode, and this was back when I was still using a cheaper mic and less sophisticated production techniques, but I still remain very proud of this episode from a content perspective. Original 2022 show notes below! ------------------------------------------------------------------ Today’s broadcast is C1E64 for Nerd Noise Crossovers, Thursday, 05/12/2022. Today’s Crossover is "ThreeFer Thursday" - which is, among standard format Ch 1 episodes for "just ordinary occasions", our longest episode to date. So hunker down and buckle up for what is going to be quite the musical journey! Also the Ch 1 debut of the new mic, higher quality copies of the intro/outro background music, and my new production techniques. I'm exceptionally proud of this episode, and hope you will find it exceptionally enjoyable!    Track Number / Game (Composer) / Track Names (Composers) / Time Stamp    01) Intro – 00:00:

  • [RERUN] C1E86: "The Celeste Soundtrack" [Masters of VGM] - orig rel. 06/15/2024 (see 2025 show note addendum!)

    16/07/2025 Duración: 01h49min

[2025 Addendum] Our third and final rerun which we’re releasing for July, and third and final rerun celebrating the memory of Masters of VGM (“MoVGM”), and our third and final of my bids to drum up excitement for the “VGM Hall of Fame” (“HoF”)  series spearheaded by Alex “The Messenger” Messenger of “A VGM Journey” (https://terraplayer.com/shows/a-vgm-journey), Professor Tom from “Shujin Academy VGM Club” (https://terraplayer.com/shows/shujin-academy-vgm-club), and myself (as well as any other shows which have elected to join us in the time since my drafting this on July 2nd), we look, at last, to MoVGM’s final year: 2024. The Theme of 2024’s MoVGM was a focus on female and LGBTQIA+ (particularly trans) composers. And Nerd Noise Radio’s contribution for this year was a Channel 1 featuring the soundtrack to the game Celeste, composed by the fabulous trans composer Lena Raine. The pride connection goes even deeper, though, as the game was written and designed by Maddie Thorson, who is also trans, and upon who

  • [RERUN] C2E13: "Songs of the Unsung" [Masters of VGM] - orig rel. 06/01/2023 (see 2025 show note addendum!)

    09/07/2025 Duración: 02h51min

[2025 Addendum….sorry for the long-winded] Our second of three reruns which we’re releasing for July, and second of three reruns celebrating the memory of Masters of VGM (“MoVGM”), and the second of three of my bids to drum up excitement for the “VGM Hall of Fame” (“HoF”)  series spearheaded by Alex “The Messenger” Messenger of “A VGM Journey” (https://terraplayer.com/shows/a-vgm-journey), Professor Tom from “Shujin Academy VGM Club” (https://terraplayer.com/shows/shujin-academy-vgm-club), and myself (as well as any other shows which have elected to join us in the time since my drafting this on July 2nd) is just one of, this time, four contributions we made to the series that year. I’ll share links to the other three below, as well as two other bonus links which are acutely relevant to two of them (as well as to C1E96, our “fresh episode” from last month). The Theme of 2023’s MoVGM was sort of the opposite of the year prior. 2022’s theme was a celebration of “big named composers”, like Yuzo Koshiro or Nobu

  • [RERUN] C2E8: "Our Four Favorites" [Masters of VGM] - orig rel. 06/30/2022 (see 2025 show note addendum!)

    02/07/2025 Duración: 02h58min

[2025 Addendum….sorry for the ultra long-winded] Normally, we only share one rerun a month at Nerd Noise Radio. But due to the confluence of a) our having missed the May rerun completely, b) our not getting a June rerun out until the very end of the month, and c) a very important thematic connection to an event currently happening in the VGM podcast scene this month, I’m releasing…..not one……not two……not four…..but THREE reruns in July! From 2022 through 2024, the greater VGM podcast community participated in a glorious group experiment called “Masters of VGM” (or “MoVGM” for short - I think I might’ve even been the one to coin the shorthand…..maybe), where a master theme was decided upon by the community, and then every participating podcast would do an episode, or a handful of episodes in keeping with the crowdsourced theme. Nerd Noise Radio participated all three years - with a Channel 2 in 2022, a Channel 1 in 2024, and in 2023, with a whopping FOUR installments where we had a Channel 1, a Channel 2, a

  • NNR Reruns! - C2E10: “Sega CD 30” (orig released 10/20/22 - with 2025 Terra Player Introduction)

    27/06/2025 Duración: 02h47min

2025 Addendum (original show notes below) Today’s rerun includes a tacked on 2025 introduction directed primarily at listeners on Terra Player, and also references links to two other “made on Steam Deck” NNR episodes. See those links below: C1E71: “The Wonder Years” [Channel 1]: https://nerdnoiseradio.podbean.com/e/noise-from-the-hearts-of-nerds-c1e71-the-wonder-years/ C2R3: “Best of 2023” [Channel 2]: https://nerdnoiseradio.podbean.com/e/ch-2-nerd-noise-game-club-c2r3-the-best-of-season-3/ -------------------------------------------------------- Original show notes (minus updated timestamps) -------------------------------------------------------- Today’s Broadcast is C2E10 for Theme Thursday, October 20th, 2022. Today’s episode (our final “normal” episode of Season 2 [calendar 2022]) will be a focus on Sega CD music to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the system’s North American launch. Also, including an endearingly terrible improvised gag attempt at the very beginning! :-D   Track # / Track / Game

  • [Ch 1] "Noise from the Hearts of Nerds" - “C1E96: Full Steam Ahead”

    26/06/2025 Duración: 02h34min

Today’s broadcast is C1E96 for Theme Thursday, June 26th, 2025 (happy 27th "dating" anniversary to my dear wife, St. Jodee). Today’s theme is a collection of music from games in my own personal Steam Library – planned, curated, produced, and distributed entirely on/from the Steam Deck (SteamOS desktop mode)! A collection dominated by music from indie games from the 2010's and 2020's and peppered with music from bigger-named games from the 1990's and 2000's and contains not one, but TWO chill zones, which collectively account for almost half of the mixtape runtime! Special thanks to Professor Tom from Shujin Acadamy VGM Club podcast for helping me settle on episode title. Other candidate titles I'd been considering included "Gimme Steam" (which was the working title), "Steam Punk", and "All Hands on Deck". Lastly, this is our debut episode on Terra Player!    SKIP STRAIGHT TO THE MUSIC TIMESTAMP: 00:07:22     Tracklist:     Track# - Track - Game (System is always presumed to be PC for this episode) - Composer(

  • [Ch 1] "Noise from the Hearts of Nerds" - “C1E95: VibeOff Vrijdag”

    09/05/2025 Duración: 01h58min

Today’s broadcast is C1E95 for VibeOff Vrijdag, May 9th, 2025. Today’s broadcast will be a one-time-only special twist on a FaceOff Friday, where, instead of comparing different versions of the same track against each other, we're comparing pairs (and occasionally trios) of different songs against each other which either have similar movements, or melodies, or instrumentation, or simply just vibes and asking you, the listener to not only tell us which one you like better, but whether or not the comparisons are even valid, and how strongly or weakly if so. So, in lieu of an 8th and final FaceOff Friday episode, Nerd Noise Radio is pleased to present: VibeOff Vrijdag (Vrijdag = the Dutch word for Friday). See the show notes for a link to a document which will allow you to grade me on these comparisons if you so choose!    Tracklist: Vibe-Off# - Timestamps  Track# - Track - Game - System(s) - Composer - Timestamp     Intro - 00:00:00  VIBE-OFF A: 00:06:25 - 00:14:12  1) Mission 2 – Double Dragon II – Mega Drive

  • [RERUNS] C1E4: TwoFer Tuesday - vol. 1 (orig. rel. 02/21/2017 - see 2025 show notes amendment!)

    30/04/2025 Duración: 01h22min

2025 Show Notes Amendment: I love the setup we have here where on the first day of the month, we released our final ever TwoFer Tuesday, and now, here at the last day of the month, we re-release our first ever TwoFer Tuesday! It feels like a wonder twist on "bookends". As always when re-running early episodes, please excuse the atrocious production quality. One of my favorite things looking back on the early episodes of the show is how "different, yet the same" they are. From a sound quality perspective, the differences are night and day in every aspect. But in terms of show format and events, other than missing the now customary summary introduction, and the fact that they've gradually gotten longer over the years, it's the same darned show that it's always been. And what the early episodes lack in polish and finesse and technique and maturity, they somewhat make up for in youthful exuberance and wide-eyed optimism, and a simply innocent fun. You've heard the latest and greatest of TwoFer Tuesday this mo

  • [Ch 1] "Noise from the Hearts of Nerds" - “C1E94: Jackbox Jukebox”

    24/04/2025 Duración: 02h40min

Today’s broadcast is C1E94 for Theme Thursday, April 24th, 2025 (Switch 2 pre-order day.....take 2......we hope!). Today’s broadcast is a celebration of the music from the various mainline installments of the Jackbox Party Pack – the greatest "social lubricant" in the history of video games - and the longest run-time [quote] "ordinary" Channel 1 episode in Nerd Noise Radio history, So, buckle up for nearly 2 ½ hours of the sweet sweet sounds which have made family gatherings and other social events so survivable!     Tracklist!     Track # / Party Pack # / Track Name / Minigame / Composer(s) / Timestamp     B1) Intro - 00:00:00     01) PP04 - Lobby - Monster Seeking Monster - Andy Poland - 00:05:16     02) PP01 - Theme - You Don’t Know Jack 2015 - Andy Poland - 00:08:13     03) PP07 - Presentation 3 - Talking Points - Brian Chard - 00:10:15     04) PP04 - Final Round Reveal - Survive the Internet - Brian Chard - 00:12:37     05) PP03 - Artwork Creation - Tee K.O. - Brian Chard - 00:14:16     06) PP04 - Gamepl

  • [Ch 1] "Noise from the Hearts of Nerds" - “C1E93: TwoFer Tuesday – vol 11 (April Fool's 2025)”

    01/04/2025 Duración: 01h57min

Today’s broadcast is C1E93 for TwoFer Tuesday, very conspicuously releasing on April 1st, 2025. Today’s "can you find the hidden gag" broadcast will be TwoFer Tuesday – vol. 11 – our final ever installment of the TwoFer Tuesday series, and though technically the second-to-last planned April Fool's episode, our last April Fool's episode to present a novel idea (since 2026's installment is slated to just be a sequel to 2020's reverse-playing "Backtracks").    Tracklist:     Game# / Game / System(s) / Composer(s) / Tracks / Time Stamp     A1) Intro - 00:00:00     01) Power Stone - Dreamcast - Tetsuya Shibata  A) Day of the Manches – 00:06:04 B)GunrockEnding – 00:10:36     02) The Ninja Warriors Once Again - Multiplatform - Hiroyuki Iwatsuki  A) Subway / Shopping Mall - 00:11:20 B) 3 Androids (Character Select) - 00:13:46    03) ThunderBlade - Arcade - Koichi Namiki  A) Type 2 - 00:15:51 B)ThunderBlade- 00:18:54     04) Future Dimensions - DOS (MIDI) – Mathias Ruch  A) Eternity – 00:22:40 B) Space War – 00

  • [RERUN!!] "Noise from the Hearts of Nerds" - “C1E69: Mishmash Monday – vol 12” (orig. release: 11/07/22)

    05/03/2025 Duración: 01h43min

2025 re-run bonus notes:   This episode is the third in a trilogy of music blocks (parts 1 and 2 were our January and February reruns). Long time listeners may already know what this trilogy is all about, but for those who don't and have been following the reruns, the introduction to this episode finally explains what the trilogy is all about.   So, the fun [for me] question: of the three music blocks in the trilogy, which did you like best (and why), which did you like least (and why), and do you or do you not think I made the right decision bumping "music block A" for "music block B" in C1E41? Let me know at nerd.noise.radio@gmail.com, or by any social media outlet on which we exist. I will genuinely be curious to know what you think. Even to this day in 2025, I *STILL* don't know what to think, personally!   DISCLAIMER: the production value was worse in 2022 when the intro and outro were produced, and substantially worse in 2018 when the music block was produced. So if this is your first time hearing Nerd

  • [Ch 1] "Noise from the Hearts of Nerds" - “C1E92: The Arzette Soundtrack!”

    15/02/2025 Duración: 01h12min

Today’s broadcast is C1E92 for Soundtrack Saturday, February 15th, 2025. Today’s broadcast will be the soundtrack to the game Arzette: The Jewel of Faramore, on multiple platforms (St. John played it on Steam Deck), composed by Button Masther aka Jake Silverman – an episode originally intended to release in June 2024, and then again in October 2024 before being bumped both times.    Tracklist!     All tracks from Arzette: The Jewel of Faramore on multiple platforms, composed by Button Masher (aka Jake Silverman)!     Track# / Track / Timestamp     A1) Intro - 00:00:00     01) World Map - 00:05:14     02) Tutorial - 00:07:22     03) Faramore Town - 00:09:13     04) Faramore Town [B-Side] - 00:11:32     05) Durridin Forest - 00:13:26     06) Durridin Forest [B-Side] - 00:15:17     07) Boss - 00:16:51     08) Bonus - 00:18:41     09) Cogwyn Caves - 00:20:42     10) Anju Desert - 00:22:30     11) Anju Desert [B-Side] - 00:24:19     12) Creece Canyon - 00:26:00     13) Norrin Swamp - 00:28:02     14) Norrin Swamp

  • [RERUN!!] "Noise from the Hearts of Nerds" - “C1E51: Mishmash Monday - vol 9” (40th Birthday episode - orig. released 02/03/2020)

    03/02/2025 Duración: 02h45min

2025 re-run bonus notes:   This rerun is releasing on the precise 5yr anniversary of its original release - in other words, this celebration of St. John's 40th birthday, featuring his wife, both his kids, both his parents, and his brother is re-releasing on St. John's 45th birthday!   Also, it is the second of a trilogy of music blocks (the first of which was last month's rerun), which, if not already clear to long-time listeners of the show will be explained in the intro to the third track of the trilogy, which will be our March 2025 rerun. So stay tuned til next month's rerun!   DISCLAIMER 1: DEAD-NAME ALERT! August is not their birth name, and this episode was recorded prior to their self-discovery, so it uses their birth/dead name. Because of this, I checked with August prior to releasing it to make sure they were okay with it. They said they were okay with it so long as I included the disclaimer - which I would've done anyway! :-D   DISCLAIMER 2: Apologies for some of the off-color jokes and references
