She spent two long years working through it, along the way suffering multiple seizures. UK HealthCare neurosurgeon Dr. David Dornbos successfully diagnosed and treated Tiona for an arteriovenous malformation, and has since been seizure-free. Dr. Dornbos discusses Tiona's case in this interview.

Despite his twin sister Kristen’s hope to donate, she wasn’t a suitable match, nor were many others who cared for him. Jillian Kyde, whose sons were beloved students in Kristen’s classroom, was moved to get tested after hearing Nick’s story. A couple months later, she gave a kidney to someone she’d barely met.
