In Luke 14:16-24, Jesus tells the parable of the great supper. A man prepares a great feast and sends out invitations, but when everything is ready, those who were invited begin making excuses. But notice what happens next. In verse 21, the master becomes angry and tells his servant to go into the streets and bring in the poor, the maimed, the halt, and the blind. Then, in verse 23, the command becomes even more urgent: “Compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.” And then comes the sobering warning of verse 24: “For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.” This isn’t simply a story about a dinner invitation. Jesus is revealing the seriousness of God’s invitation—and the danger of treating that invitation casually. God’s invitation is gracious. It is extended. The door is open. But there comes a point when excuses have consequences. Today, we’re going to look closely at verses 21, 23, and 24 and ask ourselves an important question: What are we doing with th

John the Baptist was one of the clearest voices in Scripture proclaiming that Jesus was the Messiah. In Matthew 3 and John 1, we see John confidently identifying Jesus as the One who was coming after him. But in Matthew 11:3, John sends his disciples to Jesus with a question: “Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?” What happened to John’s confidence? In this episode, we take a closer look at John’s question—not to criticize his faith, but to understand the humanity behind it. John knew what God had revealed to him, but his circumstances had become difficult. His expectations about what the Messiah would do didn’t necessarily match what he was experiencing. Sometimes we find ourselves in exactly the same place. We know what God has said, but we don’t understand what God is doing. We believe, but we still have questions. The healing of the lame man at the temple gate should have been a moment of celebration. Instead, it became the beginning of persecution for Peter and John. In Acts 3, God performs a miraculous healing. In Acts 4, the religious authorities respond with opposition and threats. But when Peter and John return to the believers, the church doesn’t respond with fear. They respond with prayer. Their prayer is remarkable. They don’t ask God to remove every obstacle. They ask Him to give them boldness to continue speaking His Word. And God answers. “And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.” — Acts 4:31, KJV This is the final part of When Prayer Changes the Story, and it reminds us that sometimes prayer doesn’t change the opposition around us—it changes us in the middle of the opposition.

Fear has a way of making our problems look bigger than our God. In 2 Kings 6, Elisha and his servant find themselves surrounded by the Syrian army. The servant sees horses, chariots, and soldiers—and assumes they are finished. But Elisha sees something his servant cannot yet see. Elisha responds with a powerful prayer: “Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see.” God opens the servant’s eyes, and suddenly he sees the mountain filled with horses and chariots of fire. In Part 4 of When Prayer Changes the Story, we discover that prayer doesn’t always change our circumstances immediately. Sometimes prayer changes our perspective. What looks like defeat may actually be the place where God is preparing to reveal His power.

Sometimes God allows circumstances to reach a point where there is no mistaking who deserves the glory when the answer comes. In Part 3 of When Prayer Changes the Story, we travel through 1 Kings 16:29–18:40 and encounter one of the most dramatic moments in Scripture. King Ahab has led Israel deeper into idolatry, Jezebel has promoted the worship of Baal, and God responds through Elijah with a devastating drought. But the drought was more than a judgment—it became the setting for God to demonstrate His power. On Mount Carmel, Elijah stands virtually alone against the prophets of Baal. The question is simple: Who is really God? And when Elijah prays, God answers with fire. This episode reminds us that prayer isn’t about manipulating God into doing what we want. Prayer places us in a position to witness what God is capable of doing when we trust Him, obey Him, and call upon His name. Sometimes prayer doesn’t just change the situation. Prayer changes the story by revealing who God is.

In Part 2 of When Prayer Changes the Story, we continue looking at the incredible power of prayer through the story of King Hezekiah and the Assyrian threat against Jerusalem. Assyria had conquered powerful nations, and now Jerusalem was surrounded. The message from the enemy was clear: surrender. Don’t trust God. Your situation is hopeless. But Hezekiah did something that changed the direction of the story. He prayed. He took the threatening message before the Lord and cried out to God. And God answered—not merely by giving Hezekiah peace in the middle of the circumstances, but by changing the circumstances themselves. 2 Kings 18–19 reminds us that prayer is not simply a spiritual exercise that helps us cope with life. Prayer is bringing our circumstances before the God who has the power to intervene in them. We may not know how God will answer. We may not know when He will answer. But we can know that God hears His people when they pray.

In 2 Kings 20:1–6, King Hezekiah receives devastating news: his illness will lead to death. He turns his face toward the wall and earnestly prays to God, reminding Him of how he has walked before Him in truth and with a perfect heart. God hears Hezekiah’s prayer and sees his tears. Before Isaiah has even left the palace, God instructs him to return with a message of healing and an additional fifteen years of life. This passage reminds us that when circumstances appear final, God is not finished working. Prayer is not a ritual we perform after everything else has failed. Prayer is an expression of dependence upon the God who hears, sees, and responds according to His will.

It is easy to forget where our blessings come from. When life is going well, we can begin to believe that our success, possessions, abilities, and security are the result of our own strength. But Scripture repeatedly warns us against forgetting God when He has blessed us. In Jeremiah 2, God confronts His people because they had forsaken Him, the fountain of living waters, and turned to broken cisterns that could hold no water. Deuteronomy 8 gives us another warning: when we have plenty, we must not say, “My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth.” This episode challenges us to examine what—or whom—we are trusting. Are we trusting God, or are we trusting what God has allowed us to have?

Psalm 106:8-23 recounts one of Israel’s greatest failures: they experienced God’s power, witnessed His deliverance, and yet quickly forgot His works. They exchanged trust in God for impatience, unbelief, and ultimately idolatry. This passage reminds us that remembering what God has done is more than looking back nostalgically—it is an essential part of maintaining faith when the next trial comes. In this episode, we examine the danger of spiritual forgetfulness, the consequences of refusing to trust God, and the remarkable truth that even when His people fail, God remains faithful.

Prayer is one of the greatest privileges God has given His people-and Scripture makes it clear that prayer is far more than simply bringing our personal requests before God. In this episode, we examine what the Bible teaches about praying for others, praying for our enemies, praying for the sick, praying for the advancement of the Gospel, and praying for boldness. Prayer changes our perspective, strengthens our faith, supports God’s people and aligns our hearts with God’s purposes. Don’t underestimate what happens when God’s people pray.

Authority is part of God’s design, but human authority is never a substitute for Christ. In Matthew 23, Jesus exposed religious leaders who taught others while failing to practice what they preached. He warned against pride, public recognition, and using religion to elevate ourselves. Yet Scripture also tells us to submit to governing authorities and to pray for those in positions of leadership. So how do we reconcile these truths? The answer is found in understanding the difference between respecting authority and following hypocrisy. As Christians, we should honor those God has placed in positions of authority, pray for them, and speak about them in a way that reflects Christ. But our ultimate allegiance belongs to Jesus. He is the foundation of our faith, and His Word—not human personalities, traditions, or popularity—must determine what we believe and how we live.

What does it really mean to have faith? Hebrews 11:1 tells us that faith is “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” But biblical faith isn’t believing without evidence. It is trusting God because of what He has revealed about Himself. Peter said he and the other apostles were not following “cunningly devised fables.” John testified that they had heard, seen, and handled the Word of life. Thomas was told to believe because he had seen the risen Christ. And Jesus said there is a blessing for those who have not seen, yet believe. In today’s episode, we examine what Scripture teaches about genuine faith—and why our faith can be firmly anchored in Jesus Christ.

There are moments when following Jesus is not easy. His teachings may challenge us, the road may become difficult, and the world may offer countless alternatives. Yet in John 6, Peter gives us one of the most powerful declarations of faith in Scripture: “Lord, to whom shall we go?” In this episode, we examine what it means to build our lives on Jesus Christ as the only true foundation. Jesus tells us not to be troubled, but to trust Him. He declares Himself to be the way, the truth, and the life. Paul reminds us that there is no other foundation than Jesus Christ, while Jesus Himself warns us that only those who build on His words will stand when the storms come. The question is simple but profound: Are you building your life on Christ—or on something that cannot withstand the storm?

There are times when following Jesus is easy—when His promises comfort us, His blessings encourage us, and His presence gives us peace. But what happens when Jesus says something we don’t understand? What happens when His teaching challenges our beliefs, our priorities, or our way of life? In John 6:60–69, many of Jesus’ disciples reach a difficult crossroads. They hear His teaching and say, “This is an hard saying; who can hear it?” Some turn away and walk with Him no more. But Jesus turns to the twelve and asks, “Will ye also go away?” Peter’s response gives us one of the most powerful declarations of faith in Scripture: “Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.” This episode looks at what happens when following Jesus becomes difficult—and why faith means continuing to follow Him even when we don’t understand everything He says. Sometimes the question isn’t whether Jesus’ teaching is difficult. The question is whether we trust the One who is teaching us.

There are teachings circulating about the Apostle Paul that suggest he taught that baptism is unnecessary—or even that Paul himself rejected baptism as part of the Christian faith. But is that really what Scripture teaches? In this episode, we take a careful look at 1 Corinthians 1:10-17, Ephesians 4:4-5, and Romans 6:3-4 to examine what Paul actually said about baptism. We’ll consider the context of Paul’s words, the difference between baptism and the Gospel itself, and why taking a verse out of context can create a completely different doctrine than the one Scripture teaches. The goal isn’t to defend a tradition or attack a person. It’s to let Scripture interpret Scripture and allow the Word of God to speak for itself.

Why does God allow His people to suffer? Is suffering a sign that we have done something wrong—or can God use suffering to accomplish something greater in our lives? Their faith had become so visible that their example was being talked about throughout the surrounding region. We all have things we would rather keep hidden. Things we’ve said, done, thought, or allowed into our hearts that we would rather nobody else know about. But Scripture reminds us that nothing is hidden from God. Romans 3:23 tells us that all have sinned. Psalm 90:8 reminds us that even our secret sins are before God. Jeremiah 16:17 says that our ways are not hidden from Him. So if God already knows everything, why does He call us to confess? Because confession isn’t about informing God. It’s about being honest with God. In this episode, we’ll look at what the Bible says about confession, the danger of covering our sins, the freedom that comes from acknowledging them, and the incredible promise of 1 John 1:9—that God is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

What do you do when trouble comes? Trouble has a way of showing up without an invitation. It can leave us afraid, overwhelmed, confused, and wondering what we’re going to do next. In 2 Chronicles 20, King Jehoshaphat faced an overwhelming enemy and an impossible situation. But instead of relying on his own strength, he sought the Lord. Instead of focusing on the size of the enemy, he focused on the greatness of God. And instead of rushing ahead, he learned to stand still and wait on God.
