It's been a while since we've asked about the health of your pets. Dr. Jean Geske of VCA Bloomington Animal Hospital joins Steve at our Fair porch for a new edition of our "Ask the Vet" hour. She takes your questions on what's ailing your furry friends.

It has been one of the busiest weeks of Phil Miller's baseball writing career. Steve addresses the elephant in the room... the Pohlads choosing to retain control of the team. Phil talks a bit about what he saw from Joe Pohlad and his giddiness level when breaking the news to the public. He notes he hasn't seen much fury from fans at the ballpark but the opposite is true on social media platforms.

First, we go outdoors with Steve Carney who is itching for dove season to arrive but in the meantime gives his tips on the drop shot rig. Then, an update on the impending Gopher football season and the Minnesota Loons with Andy Greder. Steve and Lindsey speak to some State Fair romanticism as the Great Minnesota Get Together is only days away. Steve also provides an update on the MBA State Amateur Baseball Tournament. Finally, Matt Hodson from the Minnesota Twins stops by to talk about the Twins honoring the 1965 World Series team tonight at Target Field. Corey Koskie will also be inducted to the Twins Hall of Fame.

Andy Greder covers the Loons and the Gophers for the Pioneer Press. He does not own a rain gauge because he is not ready to become his father. The Gopher football opener is right around the corner and Drake Lindsey will be under center leading the offense. Andy talks about some of the early adjustments he’s shown in practice and camp. They also get into Koi Perich’s positional split on offense and defense. Andy think they will keep their fun stuff under wraps in non-conference play but expects Perich to be more than a gimmick presence on the offense. Steve asks about the fines and suspensions levied against the University of Michigan for their less than compliant National Championship season. Steve and Andy also get into some Loons talk and the frustration in not receiving any players during the transfer window while sending talent out during their more than solid season.

The meeting of the Steve’s commences on a very rainy Saturday night. Carney has had enough of this weird summer of weather. He says the fishing is just okay and that he’s waiting for things to cool off. In the meantime, he’s been helping a nearby sanctuary with some problematic deer. The transition to the fall cannot come fast enough. He’s been scouting deer stand spots and in the process desensitizing the nearby wildlife to his presence. Plus, Carney gets into the advantages of the drop shot rig.

Phil Miller covers the Minnesota Twins for the Star Tribune. He joins Steve Thomson ahead of the second game of the Twins/Royals series. The Twins have been winning some games despite trading away much of their roster at the deadline. Phil and Steve talk about Joe Ryan’s experience around the deadline and how it feels in the locker room after so much change in so little time. As jarring as the trade deadline was, Phil thinks there were four months of not so inspiring baseball that led to so much upheaval. He also touches on unique ailments that some players are dealing with.
