  • ep.31 Robin Hauser: “Bias”

    14/06/2019 Duración: 38min

Filmmaker Robin Hauser is a proven storyteller of complex topics. In her award-winning documentary, "Code—Debugging the Gender Gap" she examined the dearth of women in computer coding. Now, in her latest film, "Bias", Robin posits compelling questions: how have primal human survival instincts made racial and gender bias an innate part of ourselves; and with the rise of machine learning, with increasing reliance on AI, can we protect Artificial Intelligence from our inherent biases? Her film is an engrossing exploration and clarion call that will frighten and also enlighten. • ep.30 Barbara Vekarić: “Aleksi” - ‘Lazy. Crazy. Sexy.’

    08/06/2019 Duración: 18min

Brooklyn-based Barbara Vekarić is an emerging producer, director and writer originally from Croatia. Barbara’s first feature length-film is “Aleksi” – ‘Lazy. Crazy. Sexy.’ – a slice of life comedy set on the bucolic adriatic seaside. The title character is a troubled, aimless twenty eight year-old, jobless after college, living at her parents vineyard while plotting an escape from her safe but mundane upper middle class life. The bubbly Vekarić discusses her process of story development and journey from literature student to up-and-coming filmmaker on the indy scene; and she discusses her feelings of how character — and location — are even more important to her than story in the success of a narrative film. • ep.29 Jenna Ricker ‘Qualified’

    28/05/2019 Duración: 37min

Producer-director Jenna Ricker has worked solely in narrative film until now. In “Qualified,” her first non-fiction feature, the film’s subject is a pioneer in motor sports — and feminism — Janet Guthrie, the first woman to compete in the Memorial Day spectacle, the Indianapolis 500. Janet started out as an aerospace engineer with a longing for flight and a parallel love of motor sports, which in turn steered her into racing on the stock car circuit. In 1977, her passion and skill for auto racing — honed on road tracks like Daytona and Sebring — led her to be enlisted as the first woman to qualify for Indy. This required her to not only be an elite athlete reaching the pinnacle of American auto racing, breaking into one of the last bastions of the male dominated sport, but she also had to endure a barrage of public insults and belittlement; yet she persisted. “Qualified” is a documentary covering a pivotal moment in U.S. sports history, a gripping and inspiring chronicle of the calm resolve of racer Janet Gut
