For our May edition, we hear from the global audio platform for the under 25s, podium.me, discover how garden jumble trails bring people together, why a man left his high powered job to make jam and talk to a 70’s inspired barber. American musician Robert Chaney performs a live session from the studio.

This show explores the different ways people use space in East London. We talk to two sets of Portuguese entrepreneurs bringing tastes, sights and sounds from the country, how a memorial has been created in Bethnal Green where many East Londoners died in a tragic accident during World Word II and how Eat Work Art are making derelict spaces into veritable community hubs for business and more. Presented and produced by Nia Chapentier, Ana Xavier and Pearl Wise.

For this edition of East London's favourite arts and culture show, we team up with the Dalstonist paper and website to bring you the sounds behind their words. We talk to photographer Jan Klos about the people pulling your pints, Viktor Wynd takes us behind the scenes at his Museum of Curiosities, Amy Redmond gives us a big night out at Sink the Pink, artist Wilfrid Wood shares his passion for dogs and we hear some music by Andreya Traina and Mike Skinner.

This month we hear from an improv comedy group “Play it by ear”, find out more about Food Assembly who are making locally sourced food more easily accessible, we meet the cast of of Big House Theatre, made up of young people who have been through the care system, enjoy a live session by singer songwriter hattie whitehead and we re-run the Rising from the Dust audio documentary about night club founder and DJ, Newton Dunbar.

For this session we decided to record the show live from The Total Refreshment Centre. Presenters Ana Xavier, Nia Charpentier and Pearl Wise introduce interviews with Alexis Bondel from TRC, the organiser of Photomonth, Barney Thomas the founder of the magazine Wiley Badger and the first part of a radio doc about local music legend Newton Dunbar. Pearl selects tunes from bands and artists playing East in November.

EastCast delves into the nooks and crannies of East London, covering the arts, music and the people that make this corner of the city the vibrant place that it is. This show features satirical cartoonists Modern Toss, improvised comedy, a bike kitchen, an urban medicinal meadow, a DIY workspace and a song dedicated to Leonard Cohen's 80th birthday.

This episode explores music in East London with session and interview with musicians Lail Arad and Joel Bailey, we talk to Daniel Goldman about Casa - the Latin American Theatre Festival and their new all night event and Ana goes to an open mic night at the Hackney Attic.

The EastCast team talk to local Hackney residents about what living in Hackney means to them, the history of the area and how it has changed. All the music is also voices of Hackney with a diverse range of Hackney's talent over the years.

On this episode of EastCast we talk to Ansel Neckles about the Let's Be Brief pop up school specialised in workshops for local businesses, Anna Maloney tells us about Hackney's Wick's annual arts festival Hackney Wicked, we dig out an interview with the now renowned homeless artist John Dolan and we welcome the band Ringlefinch for some live music in the studio. We have music on the show by Blues Pills, Songhoy Blues, the Range and Jacco Gardner.

On this week's show we speak to the artist behind the elusive colourful mushrooms growing around East London, learn how to make shoes without any stitching, look up at buildings with some senior explorers, talk sculptures with Christine Ohuorugu and talk to one of the brains behind co-working space Creative Blocks. The music is of course from bands playing in East London soon including: Dressmaker, Laurence Crane, Julia Holter, Soul 2 Soul and Slow Club.

This week Nia talks to the man who organised Woodstock about a photography exhibition of images from the festival, we are joined in the studio by Mia from the Free Range graduate art show, Ana Sexton from The Anxiety Festival, Blue Hawaii from Four Corners Photography and of course music selected by Pearl Wise by artists playing in East London in the coming weeks including Sweet Baboo, Beth Orton, Farrago, Chicks on Speed and Blue Hawaii.

This week the ever eclectic EastCast show covers Bikes, Brass and Borage and there's no getting away from it.. football. Ana Xavier gets her hands dirty at a DIY repair shop The Bike Kitchen, Pearl Wise discovers a hidden medicinal meadow full of weeds called Phytology, Nia Charpentier meets a brass band who have a penchant for Star Wars.. and we give you the best places to watch or avoid the world cup. Of course there's plenty of music too featuring a election of bands and musicians playing in East London over the next fortnight carefully elected by musical maverick Pearl Wise: Ellen and the Escapades, Dawn Golden, Happyness, Sun Ra Arkestra, Conor O Brien and Angelo Badalamenti.

We also welcome Zoe Bryant, our new arts reporter, who shares her top tips with us. Melanie has been finding out about a new venture you can get involved in called Fish Island Labs, and Pearl Wise brings us her usual array of music by bands and artists performing live in East London over the coming weeks including Only Real, Brandt Brauer Frick, Shy Nature and Courtney Barnett. This week Nia meets the curator of a new sculpture walk to be launched this summer through East London and through the Lea valley. Pear Wise brings musical gems from King Dude, Dan Haywood, Caetano Veloso, Younghusband, Fatima Al Quandri and My Panda Shall Fly.

We have a busy studio on this week's EastCast with guests Giles Abbott, a traditional storyteller who came to the profession after losing his sight. We talk to artist Tom Pearce and then challenge him to sketch the EastCast presenters while recording. And bright young thing Elena Dirik performs a beautiful rendition of a classic song along with her ukulele. We also hear the next chapter in the Chrisp Street story from residents of the East End market. Music this week includes Death Vessel, Mirel Wagner, Le1f and Face+Heel, and as usual we bring you the best in arts and culture listings from our corner of the city.

On this Easter edition of EastCast, Nia Charpentier talks to photographer Phil Maxwel who's been charting the social changes and community tensions in brick lane. Martha Mc Alpine talks to reggae musician Maurice Onejah about his political new album and a new venue in Dalston called Epic, Ana Xavier discovers a folk night called Music box at the vintage shop Paper dress Morton Hamilton-Griffin tells us about his independent craft and design magazine and workshop space The Holborn. Pearl Wise features music by Marissa Nadler, Chet Faker and The Marbles Jackson all playing live in East London soon.
