On this episode, Dan talks with Caleb Michels of Kansas about a big buck he harvested last season that took a 5 hour spot and stalk in a bean field. Because Kansas doesn't have much public land to hunt, Caleb was left to knocking on doors to gain permission on private property. After several rejections, Caleb was finally able to get access to a handful of farms that gave him a chance to hunt during his busy schedule. On this episode, Brett Smith shares a story from his 2014 archery season about a morning hunt during the the rut where the conditions were absolutely perfect. With almost no wind he was able sneak in to a stand location that he was in the perfect transition area with a small food plot. As the sun was coming over the horizon he heard his first ever snort wheeze within 100 yards from his stand. It was at that moment that everything went wrong when he dropped his release. On this this episode, Tristan Sipes of Tennessee shares an amazing story about gaining access to a prime piece of hunting property that is owned by his wife's uncle. This kicker is, he didn't know about this property until he was asked why he never wanted to hunt it before, this was 10 years after dating and being married to his wife. Needless to say that Tristan was blown away when he learned about the 200 acres in southern Illinois that had not been hunted in past several years. Long story short, this new family farm produced great deer over the past 4 seasons including a booner the very first year he he bowhunted it. There are times in life when we realize that life is precious and fragile. Dan talks about growing up in Mississippi in a family and community that used dogs to hunt deer. He tells us about how his dad got him a shotgun when he was only 8 years only and how in high school he would rather go to bed early so he could go hunting the next morning rather that stay out late with his friends. Then Dan talks about how he moved from Mississippi to Pennsylvania and started hunting public land. After a stint in PA and with the growth of his family he ended up putting hunting on the back burner and moving to Texas. Alex Gyllstrom of Whitetail Properties hops on the podcast for an excellent conversation about hunting and working in the hunting industry. On this episode of the Nine Finger Chronicles podcast Dan has an awesome conversation with Tonsen Sportsman about his experiences in the outdoors, specifically hunting. Tonsen explains his introduction in to hunting via waterfowl hunting with some of his good friends and fishing trips with his family as a kid. Then as time went on he eventually got his older brother in to hunting. After a while Tonsen set hunting to the side to start a family as his brother continued to expand his personal hunting opportunities. Years went by and hunting was eventually off the radar as he went through a divorce. Then on the way home after a fishing tournament, Tonsen's brother was killed in a car accident. This devastated the family. But, out of the darkness comes Tonsen's rebirth for his love of hunting.
