Sinopsis
Hi everybody, and welcome to the Dad and Buried podcast! Basically, this podcast will be like my blog, except instead of writing angry things about my kids, I'll be saying them directly into your ears. You've all stopped reading my blog anyway, thanks to mark Zuckerberg, but I'm not done ranting about parenting, so I decided to create a new format to give people what they want: me and some guy they've never heard of complaining about our children.

The Art & Science of Giving Gifts this Holiday Season - #118 | Dad & Buried
23/12/2021 Duración: 46minAhh Christmas. The holiday that tries to be one thing but ultimately is about another. Parents seem to fall into two camps; those who listened attentively to their spouse and kids throughout the year and bought all presents by November 1st and those of us who now blame lack of presents on "supply chain issues." There are those that give physical gifts and and those that give experiences. In Mike's case he was able to give his wife heather both! When he gave her a physical gift of a dehumidifier, he also gave her the experience gift of sheer disappointment. Mike can really sit and spin on this one. Listen as Mike and Heather get into it. In this very special Christmas gift giving episode. Enjoy! Support us

Holidays = In Laws: The One Problem Parents Will Never be Able to Solve - #116 | Dad & Buried
09/12/2021 Duración: 53minLet me drop a little math on you; Holidays = In-laws. Boom. Bam. Move over Hawking. Thanks Newton, but I'm good. I just proved the transient property of how your In-Laws WILL show up at your house for holidays. [Nasal voice} "But we normally go to them." Whatever dude, Math isn't an exact science, everyone knows that. Here's the point: you can't have the holidays without the In Laws. For better or worse it' just a fact and I just "mathed" it. You know who else "mathed" it? Mike and Pete who get all kinds of up in it. Sound gross? it is. Enjoy! Support us

Parenting rule #101: Date Night Makes Right - #116 | Dad & Buried
03/12/2021 Duración: 41minHave you heard? Parenting kids is hard! Yeah, the new study just came in, from me, and it's true #science. As parents, the number 1 thing you need to do is keep a united front. To do that you need to be, y'know, "united." How do you unite after all the screaming and crying (not to mention what your kids are doing)? You have a date night. It's a time to reconnect. But more importantly, it's time alone, together. Y'know, to strategize how to keep those little buggers in place. Some of the most important advances in history have come from a date night. Polio vaccine? Date Night. Renewable energy? Date night. Contraception? Date night. Mike and heather (@momandburied) get into all of it, since they're married, and have kids, and a podcast. Enjoy! Support us

All the Ways Your Kids Can Surprise You (It's Only a Few) - #115 | D&B
18/11/2021 Duración: 57minThere are times as a parent your kid, the same kid who barely talks to you, will stand up in front of guests at a party and recite Shakespeare. Ok, fine, that's almost never happened. But, BUT, there are things similar that your kids will do or you're told your kid did that leave you with one simple question "My kid did that?!" Mike and Pete get to the bottom of all the different ways your kid has blown you away in the most surprising way (it's just two). Enjoy! Support us

Do Parents Use Tough Love Anymore? - #114 | Dad & Buried
28/10/2021 Duración: 54minWe know parents have it tough, but do our kids? A lot's changed since we were kids. Enrique Iglesias was crushing the charts, Smashmouth was a thing, and flying cars is what we had to look forward to in 2021. Maybe the biggest thing that's changed has been parenting styles. Have we gone from "suck" to "blow" in one generation? Too many participation trophies? Too few boundaries? Have we overcorrected? No, no. It's the KIDS who are wrong! Yeah, it's always those damn kids. Well an entire generation would've gotten away too with it, if it weren't for these two meddling podcasting dads Mike and Pete. Enjoy! Support us

Empty Nest Syndrome: A post Covid reality for many? - #113 | Dad & Buried
21/10/2021 Duración: 39minIt's been a year and a half since parents took on the mantle of being full time teachers on top of everything else we have going on. While in some households lockdowns meant that child mortality skyrocketed, especially around bedtime [JUST BRUSH YOUR TEEEEEEETH!!], others have lived some kind of Swiss Family Robinson kinda life and now it's all come crashing down as their kids are FINALLY back in school. Hard to relate I know, but here on the Dad & Buried podcast we're nothing if not 1) well researched, 2) fair and balanced. Mike and Heather (@momandburied) cover a lot of ground in this very special episode. Enjoy! Support us

Are Parents Prepping Our Kids for the Future? - #112 | Dad & Buried
14/10/2021 Duración: 59minI believe the children are the future. We have to teach them well and let them lead the way. Show them all the beauty they possess inside...Ahem, had to be done. But are we really getting our kids ready for what the future brings? Are we too over protective? Or are we not protective enough over things like social media habits? Or how are kids use the internet? As always Mike and Pete tackle this hefty topic with a mix research, skill and aplomb. JK they just wing it. Enjoy! Support us

Give it Up For Parenting! - #110 | Dad & Buried
30/09/2021 Duración: 54minThe great parenting philosopher Thanos summed it up best when asked by a small child, "what did it cost?" [Thanos]: "Everything." The sacrifice is real and... [looks down at shoes and kicks a stone] worth it. When you become a parent there are some things you know you have to give up like being in a rock band, or wingsuiting. But then there's other things that you never thought you'd have to give up like going out with friends, video games or doing class A drugs. The two other great parenting philosophers Mike and Pete know all about it and get into some of it. Enjoy! Support us

23/09/2021 Duración: 42minAlright stop, collaborate and listen, D&B is back with a brand new edition...Ok, sorry I'll stop (no one reads this anyway). But Mike and Pete are back with more dad-related parenting insights than EVER! What's that? There were no insights to begin with? Well, that's your opinion. We're pickin' it up where we left off, but with a slightly new format and now with improved audio! Just in the nick of time (43 episodes in). We're happy. We hope you're happy. Now let's do this. How to Raise Well Rounded Kids in 3 Excruciatingly Painful Steps - #108 | Dad & Buried
22/07/2021 Duración: 59minIs it even possible to raise well rounded kids these days? We all fall into our niche interests so quickly. And by niche interests I obviously mean watching stuff on the internet. Are the goalposts too narrow? We want our kids to be polite, but not so polite they don't stand up for themselves. We want them to be good at sports, school, and social stuff but not too focused on any one of those. Well thankfully Mike and Pete have the 3 specific steps that will work EVERY time, or not. Enjoy! When Parents are Jealous of Other People's Kids - #107 | Dad & Buried
01/07/2021 Duración: 56minEvery kid has their own unique gift, right? So why do we parents see someone else's kid doing something awesome like a backflip or talking nicely to their parents and immediately think why the hell can't my kid do that?! Yeah, ok my kid's "gift" is that they are an incredibly generous, giving spirit, but I'm talking BACKFLIP people, c'umon! Mike and Pete get into it. Enjoy! Support us

As Parents Are We Overcorrecting? - #106
17/06/2021 Duración: 55minParticipation trophies were originally used as a way to incentivise kids at a key point (when they are young) to want to keep playing that sport rather than quit after one season. However, now the absence of any merit based trophies means none of our kids are really incentivized to win. In some cases we let our kids off the hook if they don't want to show up for team practice. To Pete it's all gone too far. To Mike it hasn't gone far enough and wants all sports canceled. It's a cracker. Enjoy! Support us

Worst Parenting Advice, Part II: This Time It's Serious - #105
10/06/2021 Duración: 55minCherish every moment cause it goes so fast. Oh yeah?! Maybe you want to come over and deal with this little monster who's making us all late cause they're rolling around on the floor screaming that their sock as "TOO COMFORTABLE!" Little nuggets like this litter the parenting world and it's up to us parents to figure out what tidbits to use and which to ditch. Having said that the one piece of advice we ALL can agree on is never leave your kid at home while you take your extended family go on a trip to Paris. Mike and his lovely wife Heather (@momandburied) get into all of it. Enjoy! Support us

The COVID Hangover: How Our Parenting will Change Post COVID - #104
27/05/2021 Duración: 59minIt's been a loooong 16 months since we COVID entered our lives and now that we're on the other side of it [knocks cautiously on wood] we need to adjust our parenting styles from "PJs-all-day" to "not-PJs-all-day?" Mike and Pete get into it and hear from you on what's coming next. Enjoy! Support us

Parenting Stress: Meet Your Masterclass Instructors - #103
20/05/2021 Duración: 01h07minWhoever came up with the phrase "don't stress it" wasn't a parent. As parents that's really 90% of the job (remaining 10% wishing you were asleep and the final 1% pure joy). From money to schools to mental health Mike and Pete hear your war stories and share their own. Enjoy! Support us

Parenting Stuff You're Good At - #102
14/05/2021 Duración: 01h46sAs it turns out there can be things that as a parent you are good at. Like, say, getting your kid to watch all the 80's and 90's movies you watched growing up *cough* mike *cough* #notcovid. IS that a skill? Can someone be good at that? Who knows. The point is not all parenting sucks. You have to find the things you like and lean into them (I'm getting choked up over here #stillnotcovid). Mike's much better half Heather (@momandburied) joins Mike to discuss. Enjoy! Support us
