The PARE Group of Wellington, have teamed with Makisi to host shows in Wellington, Auckland and Porirua, from late November to early December, a preview to a possible tour in 2021. Benjamin Fifita Makisi was born in Wellington, NZ and is of Tongan and Samoan descent. He began singing at a young age with the Tongan Wesley Methodist church choir in Wellington. He has performed Opera internationally with various Opera companies, however one of his major highlights was performing alongside Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and with Dame Malvina Major, Sir Donald McIntyre and the Late Sir Howard Morrison. 24/11/2020 Duración: 11minThe Digital Pasifik website, which is now live, is a key part of the Pacific Virtual Museum pilot project, funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Australia, and implemented by the National Library of New Zealand, Te Puna Mātauranga in collaboration with the National Library of Australia. This pilot will run until February 2022. The aim is to empower people in and of the Pacific Islands, enabling them to see, discover and explore items of digitised cultural heritage that are held in collections around the world. Sorted in Schools - Free financial education programme equipping young kiwis for their financial future
23/11/2020 Duración: 07minLaunched in 2019, Sorted in Schools is a free financial education programme with a vision to equip all young New Zealanders for their financial future. Available for students in Years 9-13, it is fully aligned with both the New Zealand Curriculum and Māori Medium Education. It can be taught by teachers as part of day to day classes in diverse subjects, educating students about money management, saving, debt, goal-setting, KiwiSaver, insurance, investing and retirement. An independent evaluation of Sorted in Schools released this week backs up the students’ and teacher’s experience. The New Zealand Council for Educational Research determined that in the wake of COVID-19, "the need for a programme such as Sorted in Schools, [which] builds on the circumstances, strengths, needs and aspirations of every student, including Māori and Pacific, is greater than ever".See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Counties Manukau has the highest prevalence of all diabetes in New Zealand with around 8% of the country’s diabetics based in that region. Lead Pharmacist Din Redzepagic from Zoom Pharmacy says there are a number of reasons diabetics may not have access to prescription medication. In comparison regular adherence to medication results in much better medium and long-term outcomes.” Founder and managing director David Taylor of ZOOM Health, an associated company to ZOOM Pharmacy, says many suffering chronic conditions, particularly in the Maori and Pasifika communities, just don’t have the means to ensure they get their medicines on a regular basis. As of 7.30am yesterday, 35 homes have been flagged as being uninhabitable or requiring inspection to confirm their status. People who had been advised to evacuate are being accommodated in the Angus Inn and Kennedy Park Resort.
