Identifying Deer's Primary Feed Trees And Setting Up For Success with Warren Womack
30/09/2021 Duración: 01h07minPerhaps one of the greatest tactics for the months of September and October is finding where the acorns are dropping and which trees the deer are hitting the hardest. We couldn't think of anyone better to talk on the subject than Mr. Warren Womack. Warren has been a popular guest on our Local Legends series, but as the seasons start getting underway, this is a subject that you'll want to freshen up on. Mr. Womack goes into depth on his scout/hunt strategies, even stating that he believes the best way to hunt is to utilize in season scouting. "All acorns aren't the same", he says as he explains his process for setting up on what he believes are the preferred trees. Listen close and take notes, Mr. Womack has a lot to say in a short amount of time! The Golden Oldies | Swamp Bucks with Dave Owens
24/09/2021 Duración: 01h21minWelcome to the Southern Ground Hunting Podcast, and thank you for tuning in. This week we’re digging into the vault from a couple years back, talking with Dave Owens of the Pinhoti Project. If you’ve followed Dave’s YouTube channel, you probably know that he is a die hard turkey hunter. What you may not know is that he actually cut his teeth in the outdoors hunting southern whitetails. He and Parker discuss how he navigates and breaks down the swampy Alabama public land areas he hunts, how he scouts it, and then how he executes a hunt. They talk about different food sources that he has found the most success on, especially when it comes to mature bucks. We tend to put human characteristics on deer when it comes to food, but Dave helps us understand that what most hunters tend to believe about a deer’s feeding habits may be further from the truth than what we think. This is an incredible conversation that you can gain whitetail knowledge from regardless of the type terrain you hunt!Become a SGH Patron:https://

How Can You Translate Deer Hunting In The North & Midwest To The Southeast
16/09/2021 Duración: 53minThis week on the Southern Ground Hunting podcast, Parker and Drew are talking about the similarities and differences in hunting deer in the early season in the north/midwest as compared to the southeast. If you spend time on different forums, you'll likely hear people grumble about how "Those midwestern deer just don't act the same as our deer in the south". It's a regular topic of conversation. While in some ways it can be true, there are lessons you can draw from every hunting experience no matter where you are. In episode 143, we talk through the similarities in food sources, terrain features, how deer navigate certain habitat types, & their response to hunting pressure. We also talk through the differences in the way deer behave based on the region they're in. Private Land Hunt Turns To Public Land Grind In North Dakota
09/09/2021 Duración: 39minParker is recapping his trip to North Dakota in this week's SGH episode. In previous episodes, you may have heard him talk about this hunt, and how it was different from his normal hunt. He was invited to hunt on a leased property with our friends from Tethrd, which was a preset stand with bait piles type of hunt. That's not wrong, it's legal, but it's still not our normal public land grind that we enjoy so much. Parker talks about the challenges of trying to set in a preset spot, and how hard it is sometimes to be patient and wait, instead of going out and trying to make something happen. As the week progressed, and minimal deer were being seen, he made a move to hunt public land and ultimately was successful on the last day. We hope you enjoy this episode! Hunting Out Of State Public Land Whitetails In September with Mark Kenyon
02/09/2021 Duración: 01h34sSouthern Ground Hunting is moving north for this week's episode with a special guest, Mark Kenyon. If you don't know Mark, get out from under that rock you're living under. Mark is a part of the Meateater team and host Wired To Hunt podcast. As we move into the super early whitetail openers across the US, Mark and Parker decided to talk about hunting strategies and tactics for some of these states. Mark has hunted several different early September opener states through the years and has had a good amount of success doing it. In this episode we discuss hunting public land bucks in states like Idaho, Kentucky, North Dakota, Wyoming and a few others. This is a really good podcast to get the ball rolling, especially for someone from the south who just thinks "It's too far, too expensive, or there's no good public land early season opportunities". There really are so many affordable options for hunting these places that just might offer you the chance to shoot a nice velvet buck!Become a SGH Patron:https://www.pat

South Florida July/August Rut, How Find Public Land Bucks In Low Deer Density Areas with Swamp N Stomp
26/08/2021 Duración: 01h47sThis week's episode of the Southern Ground Hunting podcast was a blast to record. It always amazes us when we get to talk public land deer hunting with people who, even though they live in the south, their way of hunting looks incredibly different. South Florida is a land where deer hunting simply isn't for the faint of heart. Everything in the woods seems like it wants to eat you! However, the guys from team Swamp N Stomp just pull up their big boy britches and get to work. One crazy thing about south Florida is the fact that their main rut begins in July and August. While most of us are still watching velvet bucks on trail cameras, the south Florida bucks are already hard horned and ready to find a hot doe. This week we're talking with Mark and Danny about how they break down their public land areas and consistently find bucks when the deer density is typically pretty low. How do you find a food source? What terrain features do deer gravitate to? How do you dodge dog hunting pressure? All of these questions

The guys spend a good portion of time talking about how they plan to attack a high odds area this year. Something we've discussed frequently, but also plan to keep evolving through the 2021 deer season. With the help of the new technology from Spartan Forge, it has taken a lot of the guess work out of the equation. We're excited to get the ball rolling this year. Top 3 Most Bizarre Hunting Stories - Walter Lee
29/07/2021 Duración: 01h09minThis week on the Southern Ground Hunting podcast, we're joined by Walter Lee of Chasing Tales Outdoors. We're going to take a break from our normal tactic talk to have a fun story telling episode. Now we're not talking about your regular run of the mill hunting stories, we're talking weird, bizarre, craziest things we've seen in the whitetail woods. Walter is from Florida, so he obviously wins the conversation. Florida is just full of strange people. There's no two ways around that! However, Parker has a couple of wild things that have happened to him while hunting as well. WARNING: For some reason, Walt's stories seem to revolve around poop... other people's poop. Weird crap (pun intended). Anyways, this was a fun episode. The Art Of Consistently Killing Public Land Bucks Out Of State | Jeremy Aron | Local Legends
22/07/2021 Duración: 01h05minThanks for listening to the Southern Ground Hunting series, Local Legends. This week's legend is none other than Jeremy Aron of the "Do It Yourself Hunter". Jeremy hails from the great state of Mississippi and is no stranger to big public land bucks. As a matter of fact, you may have seen him on the outdoor channel years ago or even on his YouTube channel where he posts recent hunts. If you're familiar with Jeremy, you probably have noticed that he is always hunting new states, and also always being successful in those states. Not only that but he's doing it on public land. For Jeremy, it's all a part of his system and it should come as no surprise that someone with his resume in the whitetail woods would have a system for their success. In this episode, Jeremy lays out the things that he's doing that he feels sets him apart from other hunters, even in places where the hunting pressure on public land can tend to get high through the month of November. Make sure you follow along with Jeremy and his partner, Da

The Prince Of Poachers | Charles Beaty | Local Legends
15/07/2021 Duración: 01h20minSouthern Ground Hunting is going outside of our comfort zone a little bit with this week's local legend. We're talking with world renown outlaw hunter, Charles Beaty. Charles is a best selling author & die hard deer hunter, but he's known for his spending his younger days (over 20 years) poaching Boone & Crockett class bucks off of the King and Kennedy ranches in South Texas. DISCLAIMER: THIS PODCAST IS NOT IN ANY WAY CONDONING POACHING, but when you hear Charles' story then you'll understand why we think he's a perfect guest for this series. Getting chased by cowboys & game wardens, rattling giant bucks in the brush country, God changing his life and convicting him of his lifestyle ... this could be a movie!Become a SGH Patron:https://www.patreon.com/SouthernGroundHuntingOur Partners:Spartan Forge - Use the code “southernground” at www.spartanforge.ai to save 25% on your membershipTethrd - www.tethrdnation.comNucanoe - www.nucanoe.comSkre Gear - Use the code “southernground” at www.skregear.com

Upping Your Odds On Mature Mountain Bucks | Jim Forbes | Local Legends '21
08/07/2021 Duración: 01h16minBack by popular demand, Southern Ground is kicking off the Local Legends series. This week we're talking with an absolute legendary deer killing machine, Jim Forbes. Jim has been hunting the mountains of Virginia for his whole life and has learned things that have upped his odds in the deer woods. Like so many local legends we've talked to in the past, Jim makes it clear that he's not hunting deer, he's hunting old mature bucks. Mr. Forbes continuously says "food is everything in these mountains", and for good reason. He talks with us about just how important it is to find the hot oak trees in the mountains, with red oak acorns being his personal favorite. This makes sense as he tells us that his most successful time is in the latest part of the rut. Several things stick out to us about Jim. First of all, he is very calculated about his approach. Hearing him talk about how he breaks down the monotonous big woods found in the mountains is nothing short of precise. Secondly, he places most of his confidence in

Ultimate Trail Camera Strategy For Finding Big Bucks In Summer, Fall, & Winter
24/06/2021 Duración: 01h02minThanks for listening to this week's episode of the Southern Ground Hunting podcast. One thing we've not covered in depth is the use of trail cameras. As we get into the heat of summer, many of you are utilizing trail cams to gain inventory of the bucks in your area. Maybe you find yourself wanting to do that, but just have no clue how to even start. One person that truly sticks out when it comes to trail cameras and how to use them to their full advantage is our friend Reese Johnson. Reese has figured out a system that works for him year in and year out, successfully locating really nice bucks in his area with the help of over 100 cameras in the woods at any given time. In this episode we hit on location of trail cameras, both during the summer & fall. He'll teach you how he adjusts the camera placements once the "shift" happens between seasons, as well as the patterns he's consistently seeing take place. Whether you're an avid trail camera user or someone just wanting to get started, we believe that you'

Using Summer Big Buck Intel To Capitalize During The Season with Matt Powell
17/06/2021 Duración: 01h09minThis week we're talking with our friend from Tennessee and big buck killer, Matt Powell. Matt is a return guest to the show and a favorite among listeners. Likely because he is one of the most consistent bow hunters we've heard. Year in and year out Matt proves that his success in the whitetail woods is more than just luck. Matt takes bowhunting very seriously and uses precision in every decision he makes when hunting big mature bucks. While most hunters are taking a break from their hunting hobby during the summer, Matt is pursuing his hunting passion and locating potential target bucks to chase during the season. Tennessee differs from much of the south in that there is a decent amount of agriculture, mostly soybean fields, that he can glass during this time of year. While that's a great benefit, Matt also talks about ways you can take advantage of the summer in more wooded areas that makes up so much of the south. Aggressive Public Land Whitetail Strategies in the BIG WOODS with Johnny Stewart
03/06/2021 Duración: 01h18minIt's not often that we bring on a guest from outside of the southeast. When we do, you better listen up because they're about to bring the heat. Our guest this week is a mature buck killer named Johnny Stewart. Johnny primarily hunts the big woods of Pennsylvania, targeting big bucks in the big woods. Over the years, he has built up quite the reputation for himself as a deer hunter, as he has seen exceptional success in areas that see a lot of hunting pressure. This week, we're talking to Johnny about his aggressive tactics when hunting these bucks that see as much or more pressure than most parts of the country, which is why we think you'll be able to apply some of his strategy to your own scenario. Perhaps one of the greatest and most unique approaches he has is how he in-season scouts, especially in a new area. Buckle up buttercup! The man's about to spit some fire at you! From The Vault | Targeting A Mature Buck During The Rut, Stand Placement, Persistence | FULL Bobby Worthington Episodes
27/05/2021 Duración: 04h21minLast summer we had a guest named Bobby Worthington that truly made all of our jaws drop. It's rare to find a man with this much knowledge on the subject of mature bucks, and even more so to have the bone on his wall to prove it. To kick off our 2021 deer season episodes, we thought it would be good to recap Mr. Worthington's episodes and combine them all into 1 podcast. It's a long one, but if you haven't listened then you're in for a treat. If you were a listener when these episodes came out, it's not a bad idea to listen again! No doubt these episodes are some of the best we've had in SGH history. Mr. Worthington goes in depth on 3 things that he believes are the keys to success in hunting mature bucks: - Targeting a mature buck during the rut - hunt him when he's vulnerable, find his core areas and stick with him, a buck's home range, and much more- Stand Placement - Funnels, transition zones, terrain features, finding the right buck sign- Persistence - The amount of time spent in the woods is directly rel

More Hunters Than Gobblers | How To Overcome Turkey Hunting Pressure On Public Land
19/05/2021 Duración: 01h07minParker & Zack Robertson sit down to talk about their hunting in Nebraska on public land where it seems like there are more hunters than turkeys. The guys traveled from Alabama to the midwest with the "gobbler on every corner" mindset, but that just hasn't been the case. With nearly 50 miles logged on the week, these birds have proven to be up to the challenge. Hunting pressure is such a big factor in any public land scenario, and it's really something you don't know how to gauge until you get there. That has been the case in Nebraska. However, the guys have been able to be successful on their trip and overcome the challenge of massive amounts of hunting pressure. Southern Ground Hunting is powered by Simple Cast.

This week we're talking with Joey Bell of Tennessee to discuss 9 lessons that we have learned from the 2021 turkey season.
