Parker is recapping his trip to North Dakota in this week's SGH episode. In previous episodes, you may have heard him talk about this hunt, and how it was different from his normal hunt. He was invited to hunt on a leased property with our friends from Tethrd, which was a preset stand with bait piles type of hunt. That's not wrong, it's legal, but it's still not our normal public land grind that we enjoy so much. Parker talks about the challenges of trying to set in a preset spot, and how hard it is sometimes to be patient and wait, instead of going out and trying to make something happen. As the week progressed, and minimal deer were being seen, he made a move to hunt public land and ultimately was successful on the last day. Southern Ground Hunting is moving north for this week's episode with a special guest, Mark Kenyon. If you don't know Mark, get out from under that rock you're living under. Mark is a part of the Meateater team and host Wired To Hunt podcast. As we move into the super early whitetail openers across the US, Mark and Parker decided to talk about hunting strategies and tactics for some of these states. Mark has hunted several different early September opener states through the years and has had a good amount of success doing it. Back by popular demand, Southern Ground is kicking off the Local Legends series. This week we're talking with an absolute legendary deer killing machine, Jim Forbes. Jim has been hunting the mountains of Virginia for his whole life and has learned things that have upped his odds in the deer woods. Parker & Zack Robertson sit down to talk about their hunting in Nebraska on public land where it seems like there are more hunters than turkeys. The guys traveled from Alabama to the midwest with the "gobbler on every corner" mindset, but that just hasn't been the case. With nearly 50 miles logged on the week, these birds have proven to be up to the challenge. Hunting pressure is such a big factor in any public land scenario, and it's really something you don't know how to gauge until you get there. That has been the case in Nebraska.
