15 January 2013: Join presenter Dr. Robert Dellavalle as he speaks with Dr. John J. DiGiovanna and Dr. Kenneth H. Kraemer from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) about xeroderma pigmentosum (XP), a defect in DNA repair pathways that is characterized by sun sensitivity and UV radiation-induced skin and mucous membrane cancers.

  • Ionizing radiation

    11/03/2018

29 January 2013: Join presenter Dr. Robert Dellavalle as he speaks with Dr. Julie Ryan from the University of Rochester Medical Center about ionizing radiation. Although a common treatment for cancer, ionizing radiation can potentially damage skin. There is currently no effective method to prevent skin injury due to radiation exposure; however, knowledge regarding mechanisms of and treatment for radiation dermatitis is improving.

  • January 2013

    11/03/2018

31 January 2013: Audio abstracts from the January 2013 JID, including targets for treating alopecia, a pathway that regulates the hair follicle cycle, and a protein's role in the skin discoloration of melasma.

  • February 2013

    11/03/2018

04 February 2013: Audio abstracts from the February 2013 JID, including the role of vitamin A in alopecia, global incidence and prevalence of psoriasis, and the anti-aging effects of broadband light therapy.

  • The past and future of the Society for Investigative Dermatology

    11/03/2018

12 February 2013: Join presenter Dr. Robert Dellavalle as he speaks with Dr. Lowell A. Goldsmith, Editor Emeritus of theJID, about the past and future of the Society for Investigative Dermatology (SID). After 75 years, the SID has evolved from its modest beginnings as a society of 300 members to a diverse international organization. To ensure its future, the SID must continue to incorporate new scientific concepts and technologies to facilitate ongoing, vibrant discussion among its members.

  • March 2013

    11/03/2018

14 February 2013: Audio abstracts from the March 2013 JID, including the genetics of a chronic inflammatory skin condition, activation of cells in aged human skin, and a promising combination therapy for melanoma.

  • Translational research

    11/03/2018

19 February 2013: In this podcast, Corinna Wu speaks with Dr. John Parrish, professor of dermatology at Harvard Medical School and director of CIMIT, the Center for the Integration of Medicine and Innovative Technology in Boston, about his recent JID Commentary on translational research.

  • Desmoglein as a target for pemphigus and other skin disease therapies

    11/03/2018

26 February 2013: Join presenter Dr. Robert Dellavalle as he speaks with Dr. John R. Stanley from the University of Pennsylvania about desmoglein as a target for pemphigus and other skin disease therapies, which has illuminated the pathophysiology of seemingly unrelated diseases.

  • Signaling in the skin

    11/03/2018

12 March 2013: In this podcast, Dr. Robert Dellavalle speaks with Dr. Stuart Yuspa, from the National Institutes of Health, about signaling in the skin. Unraveling signaling cascades that transmit information from the cell surface to the nucleus has ushered in a multitude of new therapeutics that targets these pathways.

  • April 2013

    11/03/2018

14 March 2013: Audio abstracts from the April 2013 JID, including a signal that initiates hair follicle development, the link between acne medication and inflammatory bowel disease, and an engineered measles virus that attacks melanoma cells.

  • Exclusion of non-melanoma skin cancer from US cancer registries

    11/03/2018

26 March 2013: In this podcast, Emilee Sandsmark speaks with Dr. Melody Eide, from the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, about the exclusion of non-melanoma skin cancer from US cancer registries, which inspired Dr. Eide to review billing claims and their correspondence to the language of actual pathology records. Electronic pathology reports provide accurate diagnosis, suggesting that their inclusion in a national database would improve understanding of the prevalence, diagnostics, and treatment of squamous and basal cell skin cancer.

  • May 2013

    11/03/2018
