03/07/2019 Duración: 59minBefore today’s interview we are going to jump back to one of my favorite christian rock bands Reliant K with College Kids. Does it have anything worthwhile to say about the college experience? Where does it land on our scale from Dylan to July? Nicky’s pick is a noisy progressive record called The Fleeting Light of Impermanence by The Appleseed Cast out of Atlanta, Georgia. It’s ambiant noise of the best kind with the vocals as another fantastic instrument. https://graveface.bandcamp.com/album/the-fleeting-light-of-impermanence I’ve got Sailing England by The Pounds. This is another folk album (big shock) with mouth harp and banjo to show that the americana trend has most definitely crossed the pond. Each track has its own flavor. In some cases it’s almost a gimmick; like Miss Me building layers of sound, or Walking Around with its ambient noise. Thankfully the solid production keeps it from getting too annoying. There is a continuum between charming and depressing I basically hang out there. If you’re lik

26/06/2019 Duración: 01h29minWe are mere days post Porcfest and frankly there’s nothing we would rather analyse this week. What was our Porcfest experience? Did we enjoy spending so much time with so many other liberty type people? Would we do it again? Not really a spoiler but Porcfest was all about the people. In the interest of music discovery we have a brand new track featuring our favorite Vermont rapper and former guest Mr.Tyler Colford. It’s called Game Over by JynxINC x Stir Crazy (Ft. RyCoon and Ciurleo). Check it out! : http://bit.ly/2wzjB0J In case you missed him on our show you can check that out here: http://bit.ly/2X3mhhM Our second record comes from a band called Diametric which happens to include today’s guest! Their latest release is called Late to the Game Check out the band here: http://diametricband.com/ Today we have an interview with Joe Brochu. He happens to be one of the minds behind the fabulous theme for the FAGcast! When he’s not giving us the musical equivalent of the warm fuzzies or jamming in Diametric (ch

18/06/2019 Duración: 01h24minWe’ll get this episode started with analysis of a song by one of the great 90’s bands Everclear. Let’s parse through the lyrics of Volvo Driving Soccer Moms http://bit.ly/2wXQAMx This week in our Music discovery segment Nicky’s picked Brooklyn, NY artists Crumb with Jinx. Here are his comments: Right from the start I know exactly how I’m supposed to feel. I’m staring out at the rain thinking about how things could have been different somehow. The songs are simple but move through fat reverby chords stuffed with synth patches that would make me feel like I’m in a late 70s psych-thriller if not for that soft lady voice peaking out. While it’s nothing particularly new or necessarily inventive, it’s executed perfectly. I think I might go stare at the rain some more and listen. http://crumbtheband.bandcamp.com/album/jinx I’m bringing Morrow by California artist Tom Quell. It reminds me of the ‘grown folks music’ I used to hear as a kid stuff like curtis mayfield, but turned into Jamie Cullum style pop. It’s music

12/06/2019 Duración: 01h29minThat’s right folks you have joined us on this episode #52 which does in fact mark a year of awesomeness with The Launchpad Media http://bit.ly/2K1E0UO! We cannot express thanks enough to Mr.Johnny Rocket, all of our guests and, to all of you for the past year. It has been one fabulous journey and it continues right now. So let’s get on with it. As usual we have some lyrical analysis today we have one heck of a throwback all the way back to 1949 with the M.T.A. It’s a weird little ditty with an interesting story attached (http://bit.ly/2XAnn61) and even inspired the punk-rock anthem Skinhead On The M.B.T.A., but where does it land on our scale? http://bit.ly/2MCVAki http://bit.ly/2XD4saH Music discovery is the order here and we have a nice mix for you today. I’ve found DiTrani Brothers self titled debut. Like folk? Gypsy guitar? Ragtime? This album has elements of all the above. It also has the sound of all those down home instruments you don't hear much in popular music like washtub bass, accordian and banjo.

05/06/2019 Duración: 01h20minThanks for joining us this week on the Sounds Like Liberty Podcast. We have a fabulous show for you today beginning right here with our lyrical analysis of The Way it is by Bruce Hornsby http://bit.ly/2Igy6vJ This mellow pop song released in 1986 is thought to be making reference to the Civil Rights era of the 1960’s. Why then is the song ‘the way it is’ not ‘the way it was?’ We talk about it and score it on out scale from Bob Dylan to Eric July. Here we are again at the music discovery portion of our show. Today we are going west and then across the water. Nicky’s pick is a bit of alright from pop punk band Bracket. The album is called Too Old To Die Young. Nicky’s comments: Here they are, doing exactly what we want and expect from Bracket. Super tight block harmonies and pop structures. Can I consider feeling over the hill myself as a reason to love an album called Too Old To Die Young. Seriously this came out the day after my 35th birthday. I love these guys in general because for a band that is all about

29/05/2019 Duración: 01h14minBefore our interview we’ll check out the message of Summertime Blues by Eddie Cochran http://bit.ly/2Xcp6hp Nicky’s Brought a delightful mindfreak of a mixtape Vestiges by Rav. His comment: At moments I feel like I’m listening to some MC Chris style nerdcore. At other times he’s going deep like A Tribe Called Quest. The songs have many voices but it’s a worthwhile ride. https://exordiummusic.bandcamp.com/album/vestiges This week I have an irresistible bit of Acoustic pop from Spain: Burst! by Gareth Kitch It reminds me of Paul Simon because the instrumentation is so solid though the style meanders all over the place. I really Dig Better because of the Bass grooves that just won't quit. It feels like a very 70’s cool easy listening record. https://garethkitch.bandcamp.com/album/burst Chloe Anagnos of the American Institute for Economic Research is a writer and musician. 22/05/2019 Duración: 55minToday we have an interview but first we check out the message of Freedom isn’t Free by Trey Parker http://bit.ly/2HIDHut Nicky borrowed his pick from the Tom Woods Show. He’s chosen Grand Tour by Big Big Train. He described it as classic prog for the most part with some very movern moments. https://bigbigtrain.bandcamp.com/ I’ve picked The Navigator by Adrian Prath. This record had the sensation I was hoping for this week. I wanted something upbeat but soulful. It has the charm of Best Coast with the charm of The Smiths. The vocal performance reminded me of Deathcab because it sounded like someone describing a dream. 15/05/2019 Duración: 01h12minToday we have an interview but first we check out the message Blueprint of the Fall by Strung Out. http://bit.ly/2HqcQmL Nicky’s pick is The Sleepwalk Transmissions by We Never Learned To Live out of Brighton, UK. His Comments: The vocals manage to waffle between naked aggression and smoldering earnestness. No complaints about the accent peaking through every now and again either. Musically it’s a little more progressive than earlier generations of the style with plenty of funky timing bits and some great failures to resolve. My one beef is that while no single song feels like filler the album is a bit long...maybe I’m just old and my angst...not so deep anymore.http://weneverlearnedtolive.bandcamp.com/album/the-sleepwalk-transmissions I’ve picked Swedish indie band Agent Bla with Morning Thoughts. The guitars on the upbeat songs have that classic almost surf rock tone that makes me think of the summer. The vocals are like Chrissie Hynde run through a dream pop vocal filter. They really add a bit of magic. Me

08/05/2019 Duración: 01h11minToday we have an interview but first we check out the message Little Pink Houses by John Mellencamp. What in the world is he on about? Does it have anything to do with liberty? . Nicky’s come up with the album Happy To Be Here, by New York band Barrie Nicky said it reminded him of “a downtempo Foster the People or a female fronted Starfucker” His comments: Erma loved this record apparently, every time I turned around she was dancing and wiggling to it. The album has an ethereal vibe yet still manages to drive solid and steady. Easily the catchiest thing I’ve listened to in ages. Sonically it’s magnificent. It holds a vibe and punctuates it with little bits of interest here and there. No instrument takes center stage but the melodies are so infectious you never lose track of them. http://barrie.bandcamp.com/album/happy-to-be-here I’ve picked a Jazz record by Maarten Hogenhuis of the Netherlands. Rise & Fall is a relaxing but interesting sonic journey, exactly what I was looking for this week. The combinat

01/05/2019 Duración: 01h30minToday we have an interview with @MrPseu but first we check out the message of Manufacture of Consent by Twelve Foot Ninja. Isn’t this a book title? http://bit.ly/2URzBoC In I Heard This Happened: Noctiluca, a post rock album from Seattle artist Helms Alee. Nicky’s comments: : The album wafts from tight airy Harmonies to bludgeoning heavy guitars as deftly as a group can. It’s not quite lofi but feels purposefully minimalist at times. It’s dark and moody...albeit it won’t let you simmer in any specific mood too long, while never feeling jarring. http://helmsalee.bandcamp.com/album/noctiluca Kyle Meadows new record entitled Full Time Fever is my pock for this week. I wanted a record that would force me to slow down to listen. This record does that with falsetto vocals in a chorus of whispers with meandering loops of acoustic guitar. It's one part, Elliot Smith and one part Iron & Wine. https://kylemeadows.bandcamp.com/album/full-time-fever We chat today with @MrPseu, one of the lords of the twitterverse

Could it be any more libertarian? http://bit.ly/2W1xcJb In I Heard This Happened: Nicky brings us the Long Lungs Ep from California artist Kevin Nichols. His comments: Pure pastiche, The album fits great next to all the 90’s alternative I miss. The album hits hard and fast out the gate and each song moves from hook to hook as ferociously as possible. The longest song on the disc clocks in at 3:31 which means the songs are lean, all the fat trimmed. There’s the part of me that wonders what Matt Pinfield has to say about this guy. This stuff was written with fans of 120 Minutes in mind. http://kevinnichols.bandcamp.com/album/long-lungs I have a brit/dream pop EP here called School is Hard by High Vu. 17/04/2019 Duración: 01h07minToday we have a killer interview with Jen Monroe but first we take a closer look at the lyrics of that John Mayer song about schooling No Such Thing. Is there a liberty message under all that pop? http://bit.ly/2Zf7oLQ In I Heard This Happened: Nicky picked some psychedelic rock from the UK Mind Bahn by Jouis. Nicky’s Comments: I’m not sure if I should chill out or overthink myself into oblivion listening to these guys. Reminds me of The Stepkids if they were a little more prog and a little bit less funky. The album maintains a sweet shimmery optimism from start to finish. It’s a thoughtful companion to your day rain or shine. http://jouis.bandcamp.com/album/mind-bahn-2 I’ve got a sexy little number this week with Cobain & Cornbread from Seattle band The Black Tones. This record is Bluesy AF. The duo is basically a drummer and guitar player with vocals. Vocalist Eva Walker reminds me of Alabama Shakes Brittany Howard. Does the song actually have anything to say? Can Nicky stomach listening to Madonna? http://bit.ly/2D97njc In I Heard This Happened: Nicky brings us Thoughts & Moments Vol. 1 Mixtape, another release from an artist that always brings the solid grooves Ady Suleiman. His Comments: ”I was super excited to see this new collection of songs come through my email. We pitched his album Memories abou a year ago. The album walks a fine line between classic and modern R&B. I hate to sound hack and parrot the consensus but when they say his sound is timeless, they’re not wrong. This is supposed to be a stopgap release to fill space until his next album. I wish all my favorite artists released material this consistent between releases. I’m still not clear on what a mixtape is though.” http://adysuleiman.bandcamp.com/album/thoughts-moments-vol-1
