In 1987, 25-year-old Oregon native Jennifer Smith was viciously murdered in a Denny’s parking lot. She had no idea how important her death would end up being. Jennifer’s determination to not go down without a fight led investigators to other victims whose loved ones may have never seen justice served had it not been for Jennifer. The person responsible for a string of senseless murders was consumed by an evil bloodlust. His true form was hidden beneath a deceptive veneer. Those in his life only saw what he wanted them to see. He was perceived as a loving family man and successful entrepreneur. Lurking beneath the surface, however, was the worst kind of predator. IN THE BLOOD is a new true crime miniseries, hosted by Ben McKenzie ("Southland", "Gotham") that asks why it took the state of Texas three trials to convict Ronald Trimboli, of a triple murder, if he was actually guilty? One of the first murder cases in America to use DNA, atechnology that was in its infancy at that time, this story would pit developing science against questions about lack of motive, a clear alibi, andat least one alternative suspect - that one of the victims explicitly told the police might try to murder him. A story about questions of innocence or guilt that stretches decades, from the crime in the 1980s, all the way through three trials, a DNA re-test, and potential new evidence discovered in just the last few years. Sheer terror arrived in a suburban Pennsylvania town on March 12, 1976. For the Abt family, it started out like any other weekday. Margaret and John Abt went to their respective jobs while the children attended school. The family never could’ve predicted it would be their last morning together. In this episode of Serial Streamers, Jami recaps the Netflix docuseries American Nightmare. In 2015, a 9-1-1 call came in to the Vallejo PD. It was a man claiming that his girlfriend, Denise Huskins, had been abducted from his home by perpetrators wearing wet suits. The man, Aaron Quinn, laid out an elaborate story for detectives who did not believe him. The media dubbed it the “Gone Girl” case due to the similarities it had to the movie. Law enforcement accused Aaron and Denise of perpetrating a “Kidnapping Hoax” which may have caused them not to properly investigate the alleged crime. As it turned out, the stranger-than-fiction story was true and a suspect was identified. Within moments of opening the Bank of America branch on Laurel Canyon Boulevard in North Hollywood, California on the morning of February 28th, 1997, the staff’s worst fears were realized. Two men, later identified as Larry Phillips Jr. and Emil Matasareanu, entered the bank wearing highly customized body armor. The men were armed with automatic weapons and over 3,000 rounds of ammunition. These were no ordinary thieves, and they were about to turn the streets of Los Angeles into a war zone, and in doing so, change American policing forever. Grady Stiles Jr. came from a long line of sideshow performers who had a genetic condition known as ectrodactyly. When this defect occurs in the womb, the middle digits of the hand and foot are missing and the remaining ones fuse into two parts. Grady was born with two-fingered hands that resembled lobster claws, and footless legs ending just below the knee.  Like many of his relatives, Grady capitalized on his physical defects by appearing in traveling carnivals. It’s easy to imagine that a lifetime spent as a public spectacle could be emotionally taxing. But Grady had a coping mechanism: alcohol. For Grady, drinking heavily blurred out the pain of ridicule and rejection. Unfortunately, alcohol also made him incredibly mean and violent. This tendency toward violence would manifest into murder, with Grady being the perpetrator. In this episode of Serial Streamers, Jami recaps the Netflix docuseries Escaping Twin Flames. Jami tries to suppress her rage but finds it difficult because one of the Twin Flames Universe leaders, Jeff, is a real piece of work. Twin Flames Universe is an organization that operates eerily similar to a cult in that members are pressured to disconnect from family, spend their hard earned money on classes that guarantee they’ll be matched with their “twin flame,” among other cult-like characteristics. In reality, the Twin Flames Universe guarantee is a twin FLOP because nobody seems to get what they were promised by alleged relationship scammers, Jeff and Shaleia Ayan (not their real names, of course). The TFU leaders also allegedly pressure members into certain gender-affirming surgeries that they may not have chosen for themselves.  Jami shares all of her hot takes on this disturbing, cult-like organization and doesn’t hold back on her feelings about its leaders. Ashley Ellerin bid farewell to her father at Los Angeles International Airport in February 2001. That evening, the eye-catching 22-year-old fashion student had plans with handsome young Hollywood actor, Ashton Kutcher. The pair were headed to a Grammy Awards after-party at a popular nightclub on the Sunset Strip in LA. Kutcher, then 23, pulled up to Ashley’s bungalow behind Grauman’s Chinese Theater around 10:45 PM on February 21, 2001 nearly three hours behind schedule. He knocked on Ashley’s front door. When she didn’t appear, Ashton knocked again. A call to Ashley’s phone went to voicemail. He tried the door handle, but found it locked. Guessing she might be punishing him for being so late, the former Calvin Klein model peered through the window. The lights were on but there was no sign of Ashley, only what he believed to be the remnants of a spilt glass of red wine from a party she’d hosted the night before. Only later would Ashton learn the red streak wasn’t wine …it was Ashley Ellerin’s blood. Confused

A series of three calls came into Walker County 9-1-1 the afternoon of October 3, 2016. The caller said a man shot himself and they needed an ambulance. A woman can be heard wailing and screaming in the background …she’s hysterical. An officer arrives on scene shortly after the third call was finished, and an investigation ensued. However, according to the victim’s family, a bungled investigation, misinformation in official reports, lying witnesses and the fact that all witnesses, and the victim, were drug users …led to an incorrect determination of the manner of death.
