KDMEO Episode 84 - Go Go Waikiki (으라차차 와이키키) 9-10
16/05/2018 Duración: 01h32minMatches are being made! Judy and Teresa want people to act like goddamn adults in episodes 9 and 10 of “Go Go Waikiki” (으라차차 와이키키), a JTBC drama starring Kim JungHyun, Lee YiKyung, Song SeungWon, Jung InSun, Go WonHee and Lee JooWoo. Judy is indignant at the portrayal of nurses in Korean dramas. Why are they either completely reprehensible human beings or panicky idiots? Teresa promises to babysit Judy's future children for free. All of our listeners are witnesses! We wonder who makes more sense as a couple, Yoonah/Donggoo (Jung InSun/Kim JungHyun) or Seojin/Joonki (Go WonHee/Lee YiKyung)? Correction: When Judy talks about seaweed soup, she mistakenly says that subtitles for Sooah (Lee JooWoo) were wrong. The subtitles are actually correct. Sooah says that when Doosik was born, his mom celebrated with seaweed soup and a party. Seaweed soup is high in iodine and calcium and is given to new mothers to help recover from giving birth. It's also a traditional dish to eat on one's birthday to give thanks to one's

KDMEO Episode 83 - Go Go Waikiki (으라차차 와이키키) 7-8
09/05/2018 Duración: 01h34minJudy and Teresa are filled with nostalgia while watching episodes 7-8 of “Go Go Waikiki” (으라차차 와이키키), a JTBC drama starring Kim JungHyun, Lee YiKyung, Song SeungWon, Jung InSun, Go WonHee and Lee JooWoo. Judy and Teresa are disappointed that Sooah (Lee JooWoo) is part of the main cast now, especially now that she's reverted from being a mature adult to a spoiled brat. We also realize that Yoonah (Jung InSun) never has any internal dialogue that lets us know what's going on inside her head, which is weird for a main character. Judy insists that Lee YiKyung, who plays Joonki, is doing a slight impression of Lee DukHwa, the actor who played his father in a previous episode. Is everyone else weirded out by how much DongGoo (Kim JungHyun) likes Yoonah all of a sudden? Digressions: 3:10 - Korean names 22:47 - We have a thing for bad boys 40:10 - Judy tries and fails to explain romance numerology in Korea 1:03:53 - Judy's terrifying aegyo Some Korean terms: 개새끼: [ge-se-kki] "son of a bitch"; literally "dog bab

KDMEO Episode 82 - Go Go Waikiki (으라차차 와이키키) 5-6
02/05/2018 Duración: 01h37minJudy and Teresa guffawed through episode 5-6 of “Go Go Waikiki” (으라차차 와이키키), a JTBC drama starring Kim JungHyun, Lee YiKyung, Song SeungWon, Jung InSun and Go WonHee. Judy and Teresa can't believe how incredibly bad these characters are at lying. Judy is loving all the music references in these two episodes, while Teresa worries that she's missing out. Donggoo (Kim JungHyun) is becoming more and more unlikable while Yoonah (Jung InSun) is inexplicably irresistible to most men? Other than some minor quibbles, this drama is exceptionally well constructed. KDMEO Episode 81 - Go Go Waikiki (으라차차 와이키키) 3-4
25/04/2018 Duración: 01h33minJudy and Teresa get grossed out by episode 3-4 of “Go Go Waikiki” (으라차차 와이키키), a JTBC drama starring Kim JungHyun, Lee YiKyung, Song SeungWon, Jung InSun and Go WonHee. Judy and Teresa are heartened by the sweet, mature breakup of SooAh (Lee JooWoo) and DongGoo (Kim JungHyun). Judy is jealous of the fancy amenities in the guesthouse. Teresa shows interest in Korean women rappers. She's slowly easing into kpop, guys. We'll get her, just you wait. Digressions: 5:13 - Judy and Teresa don't like "The Notebook" 43:38 - Ramen 54:39 - "Hourglass" (모래시계), a 1990s Korean drama 1:21:50 - A handy guide to not being a sexual harasser Some Korean terms: 김밥: [gim-bap] rice roll. KDMEO Episode 80 - Go Go Waikiki (으라차차 와이키키) 2
18/04/2018 Duración: 01h11minJudy and Teresa are uplifted by episode 2 of “Go Go Waikiki” (으라차차 와이키키), a JTBC drama starring Kim JungHyun, Lee YiKyung, Song SeungWon, Jung InSun and Go WonHee. Judy and Teresa reveal their distrust of anyone who's unceasingly pleasant. We also critique JoonGi (Kim JungHyun)'s lying technique. Judy keeps mixing up the names of JoonGi/DongGoo and SooAh/YoonAh a few times in this episode, but you get the gist. There are also so many musical references! Digressions: 0:40 - Bonding over the "Animorphs" book series 5:10 - Babies? 35:27 - Chocopie vs Jos Louis 51:45 - How have Teresa and Robert not watched "Old Boy" yet? Some Korean terms: 그루밍족: [geu-roo-ming-jok] literally "grooming tribe"; Korean version of "metrosexual". 아저씨: [ah-juh-ssi] mister. 화장실: [hwa-jang-sil] washroom. 임꺽정: [im-kkuk-jung] a famous Korean bandit from 1500s. 장승업: [jang-seung-up] a Korean painter from 1800s. KDMEO Episode 79 – First Impressions
11/04/2018 Duración: 55minJudy and Teresa talk about four different Korean dramas this week! 1:23 - "Cross" (크로스) is a TVN drama starring Go KyungPyo and Jun SoMin. We are not very impressed with the main revenge plot, but the cinematography and melodrama does intrigue us enough to continue watching. 17:31 - "Mother" (마더) is another TVN drama that stars Lee BoYoung and Heo Yool. It crushed us so thoroughly that we're going to have to mentally prepare ourselves just to continue watching it. 27:01 - "Evergreen", aka "That Man, Oh Soo" (그남자, 오수) is an OCN/Dramafever production, starring Lee JongHyun and Kim SoEun. If it weren't for the unexpected (and unwelcome) magic component, we probably would have liked this better. 38:11 - "Go Go Waikiki" (으라차차 와이키키) is a JTBC drama with the great ensemble cast of Kim JungHyun, Lee YiKyung, Song SeungWon, Jung InSun and Go WonHee. So much fun! So lighthearted! So relatable! Audio credits: Atsushi Kitajoh and Kenichi Tsuchiya – “Trauma Center: New Blood” opening It was such an easy choice this we

KDMEO Episode 78 - Black Knight (흑기사) 19-20
04/04/2018 Duración: 01h29minIt's finally over!!! Judy and Teresa celebrate episodes 19-20 of "Black Knight” (흑기사) with plenty of eagle caw caws and bitter cackling. This KBS drama stars Shin SeKyung, Kim RaeWon, Seo JiHye and Jang MiHee. The two bright spots of this week were that Youngmi (Shin SoYul) finally wore a piece of clothing we liked and that Gon (Park SungHoon) got a good haircut. Everything else was poorly constructed nonsense and torture. Next week is a "First Impressions" episode! We're watching the first episodes of "Cross" (TVN), "Mother" (TVN), "Evergreen" (OCN/Dramafever) and "Go Go Waikiki (JTBC), so join us! Digressions: 39:24 - "Black Knight" makes Judy miss "Battlestar Galactica" with drums 1:07:16 - Teresa has a thing for Asian guys in eyeliner 1:10:58 - Judy goes all the way out of her damn mind 1:17:10 - David goes all the way out of his damn mind 1:21:06 - Teresa's idea for an alternate ending Audio credits: Takanori Arisawa – “Theme from Sailor Moon” "Community" Season 4, Episode 1 - "History 101" Bear McCre

KDMEO Episode 77 - Black Knight (흑기사) 17-18
28/03/2018 Duración: 01h28minPenultimate Week Syndrome Alert! Judy and Teresa are listless as they talk about episodes 17-18 of "Black Knight” (흑기사), a KBS drama starring Shin SeKyung, Kim RaeWon, Seo JiHye and Jang MiHee. It's getting to the point where we can't tell if this is the Penultimate Week Syndrome screwing with us or if this drama is just terribly bad. Judy just hates every character now. Teresa lists off all the tropes crammed into this week: jealousy-motivated murder attempt, amnesia, calling off a wedding, cutting the brakes on a car, and more! Listen in to find out how we would have fixed this wishy washy drama and join us next week for the finale of "Black Knight". Tally of superpowers so far: (bold = newly revealed this week) Becky: immortality, everlasting youth, super strength, ability to wish good luck (on Sooho), using potion to take away memories, fake jewelry detection Sharon: immortality, everlasting youth, making clothes that bestow good luck (on Haera), telekinesis, Mystique-like ability to steal one's appeara

KDMEO Episode 76 - Black Knight (흑기사) 15-16
21/03/2018 Duración: 01h37minBest out-of-context quote of this week: "We're better at murder than they are!" Judy and Teresa scoff at episodes 15-16 of "Black Knight” (흑기사), a KBS drama starring Shin SeKyung, Kim RaeWon, Seo JiHye and Jang MiHee. Why are Sooho (Kim RaeWon) and Haera (Shin SeKyung) so determined to not acknowledge Sharon's (Seo JiHye) dangerous nature? Do you find it weird that both Sooho and Haera's moms died from "shock" like the show is implying that women just lose the will to live when their partners die? And yet, "marriage is a tomb" is tossed out like it's a funny line. Digressions: 3:22 - Teresa's CSI methodology 5:55 - KDMEO is not sponsored by Dyson! 41:55 - Word roots in some Asian languages 1:21:06 - Haircut for David 1:30:35 - We analyze Sooho's stab wound Tally of superpowers so far: (bold = newly revealed this week) Becky: immortality, everlasting youth, super strength, ability to wish good luck (on Sooho) Sharon: immortality, everlasting youth, making clothes that bestow good luck (on Haera), telekine

KDMEO Episode 75 - Black Knight (흑기사) 13-14
14/03/2018 Duración: 01h53minOur masterclass in vengeance continues! Judy and Teresa seethe through episodes 13-14 of "Black Knight" (흑기사), a KBS drama starring Shin SeKyung, Kim RaeWon, Seo JiHye and Jang MiHee. Teresa reveals a dark side and Judy loves it. Why is Haera (Shin SeKyung) so willing to believe that her dad’s a murderer? Judy finds Chairman Park's (Kim ByungOk) murder/frame plot way too prescient. Does he have powers too? We're giving up on Sharon (Seo JiHye) now. Tally of superpowers so far: (bold = newly revealed this week) Becky: immortality, everlasting youth, super strength, ability to wish good luck (on Sooho) Sharon: immortality, everlasting youth, making clothes that bestow good luck (on Haera), telekinesis, Mystique-like ability to steal one's appearance, power to inspire greed Haera: ability to curse using the power of the moon Sooho: luck, magical protection from a "loving heart", power of winning “rock, paper, scissors” Audio Credits: Jo Yeongwook - "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance" We stopped counting after s

KDMEO Episode 74 - Black Knight (흑기사) 11-12
07/03/2018 Duración: 01h36minJudy and Teresa are shaking their heads through episodes 11-12 of "Black Knight" (흑기사), a KBS drama starring Shin SeKyung, Kim RaeWon, Seo JiHye and Jang MiHee. Judy is incredibly disappointed with Sharon (Seo JiHye) for being completely inept at vengeance, something at which all Koreans should excel. The only thing Sharon manages to steal away from Haera is a $2 face mask. Yeah, we said it. Teresa has a visceral reaction to Gon (Park SungHoon) getting water thrown in his face. Meanwhile, Haera (Shin SeKyung) and Sooho (Kim RaeWon) are definitely getting more lovey-dovey to the point of cheesiness. Digressions: 14:21 - Concept of couple rings 16:51 - Korean card game, hwatoo (actually hanafuda, of Japanese origin) 1:11:27 - Teresa wasn't allowed to watch "The Simpsons" Some Korean terms: 은장도: [eun-jang-do] small traditional Korean dagger, used for self-protection. KDMEO Episode 73 - Black Knight (흑기사) 9-10
01/03/2018 Duración: 01h29minJudy and Teresa croak and sniffle their way through episodes 9-10 of " Black Knight (흑기사), a KBS drama starring Shin SeKyung, Kim RaeWon, Seo JiHye and Jang MiHee. This week's episodes would draw us in with tense dramatic moments and then immediately ruin the mood with soap opera nonsense. Judy is loving the oh-so-convenient friendship between Sharon (Seo JiHye), Jihoon (Kim HyunJoon) and Gon (Park SungHoon). Those three really need all the social support they can get. Teresa is amused by Sharon's newfound interest in frying pans and wants her to start accessorizing all the time with them. How can we get a special episode focusing just on Sharon and Becky's (Jang MiHee) adventures through time? Guys, body heat. Did you just shudder? We did. Digressions: 45:50 - Robert ruins moose knuckles for Teresa 53:45 - What's an English equivalent for "fighting"? Some Korean terms: 연지곤지: [yeon-ji-gon-ji] red makeup applied in circles on cheeks and forehead of a bride; the red colour is supposed to ward of evil spir

KDMEO Episode 72 - Black Knight (흑기사) 7-8
21/02/2018 Duración: 01h39minIt's crucial to plan your vengeance properly! Judy and Teresa scoff/snort their way through episodes 7-8 of "Black Knight" (흑기사), a KBS drama starring Shin SeKyung, Kim RaeWon, Seo JiHye and Jang MiHee. Judy and Teresa reveal their superficial sides as they discover their reasons for disliking Sooho (Kim RaeWon) and Gon (Park SungHoon), respectively. Judy thinks of a more effective way for Sharon (Seo JiHye) to use her Mystique powers to get rid of Haera (Shin SeKyung). Teresa is concerned about the safety of the stuntmen in the bathhouse scene. Digressions: 16:17 - What's up with playgrounds nowadays? 21:40 - Can you knock out someone with a nickel-silver bucket? 1:23:09 - Teresa's love for magic-related TV shows and movies 1:34:24 - Oppa or Noona in romantic relationships Tally of superpowers so far: (bold = newly revealed this week) Becky: immortality, everlasting youth, super strength, ability to wish good luck (on Sooho) Sharon: immortality, everlasting youth, making clothes that bestow good luck (o

KDMEO Episode 71 – Black Knight (흑기사) 5-6
14/02/2018 Duración: 01h37minHappy Valentine's Day! Judy and Teresa delve into the characters' tragic past lives in episodes 5-6 of " Black Knight (흑기사), a KBS drama starring Shin SeKyung, Kim RaeWon, Seo JiHye and Jang MiHee. Judy and Teresa theorize that Sooho (Kim RaeWon) is a 모태솔로 (Korean term for someone who’s never dated), which would explain his dead fish kiss and his idea of romance in general. Judy thinks past Sooho and past Haera (Shin SeKyung) confirmed their love after he gave her the ring while Teresa didn't quite get that far. Teresa has never heard of "power blogging" and wonders if that's an actual thing. Digressions: 41:45 - Judy feels jaded about portrayal of "enlightenment" in Joseon 47:49 - Concubines in Joseon 1:18:33 - Dangly earrings 1:23:50 - Intellectual men = attractive? 1:34:18 - Teresa outs herself as a Slytherin Tally of superpowers so far: (bold = newly revealed this week) Becky: immortality, everlasting youth, super strength, ability to wish good luck (on Sooho) Sharon: immortality, everlasting youth, mak

KDMEO Episode 70 – Black Knight (흑기사) 3-4
07/02/2018 Duración: 01h04minJudy and Teresa slog through episodes 3-4 of " Black Knight (흑기사), a KBS drama starring Shin SeKyung, Kim RaeWon, Seo JiHye and Jang MiHee. Judy decides to suffer from selective amnesia whenever Haera (Shin SeKyung) and Sooho (Kim RaeWon) have a conversation. She finds Gon (Park SungHoon) is more appealing than Sooho, who is, frankly, a manipulative douchebag. Teresa is the better person and gives Sooho and even Sharon (Seo JiHye) the benefit of the doubt, despite their shady conduct. Some Korean terms: 설레네요: [seol-leh-neh-yo] I'm excited (looking forward to something). 찜질방: [jjim-jil-bang] sauna bathhouse. KDMEO Episode 69 – Black Knight (흑기사) 1-2
31/01/2018 Duración: 01h21minIt's Teresa's first episode! She and Judy talk about episodes 1-2 of "Black Knight" (흑기사), a KBS drama, named after a Korean tradition which originates from unhealthy societal attitudes towards alcohol consumption. Hooray! It stars Shin SeKyung, Kim RaeWon, Seo JiHye and Jang MiHee. Judy is terribly worried that Teresa will get an awful impression of Koreans from watching the superficial characters in this drama. Teresa wonders what kind of god punishes your sins by granting immortality and witch powers. Sooho (Kim RaeWon) sets off our douchebag alarm, which shouldn't be happening, right? Digressions: 17:06 - How renting works in Korea 40:10 - Expert corner: Robert gives his opinion on dislocated shoulders 42:01 - Graphic scenes in Korean TV shows Some Korean terms: 불고기: [bul-go-gi] stir fried meat dish Please send any questions, comments or suggestions on Facebook and Twitter (@kdramamyeyesout) or e-mail us (kdramamyeyesout(at)gmail.com). KDMEO Episode 68 - Because This Is My First Life (이번 생은 처음이라) 15-16
10/01/2018 Duración: 01h22minIt's Linda's final episode! Judy and Linda are tearing apart episodes 15-16 of "Because This Is My First Life" (이번 생은 처음이라), a TVN Korean drama starring Jung SoMin and Lee MinKi. Judy is supremely annoyed that Jiho (Jung SoMin) is blabbering about everything to everyone except for supposedly the most important person in her life: Sehee (Lee MinKi). Linda is incensed at Jiho for destroying Sehee's heart and then smugly lording it over him. Our counterthesis to the drama is that the institution of marriage may not be perfect, but what Jiho and Sehee are doing seems to be a holier-than-thou calculation of give and take rather than an actual relationship. Why did the writers break our hearts? Maybe we should be looking at our own star pockets to reminisce about when we loved this drama. Some Korean terms: 조건: [joh-geon] requirement; prerequisite. 어떡하지? 보고싶다: [uh-ddeok-ha-ji? boh-goh-sip-da] "What do I do? I miss her." 무뚝뚝한 경상도 남자: [moo-ddook-ddook-han gyeong-sang-do nam-ja] terse man from Gyeonsang province. 찜질

KDMEO Episode 67 - Because This Is My First Life (이번 생은 처음이라) 13-14
03/01/2018 Duración: 01h21minJudy and Linda laud episodes 13-14 of "Because This Is My First Life" (이번 생은 처음이라) for managing to avoid the dreaded Penultimate Week Syndrome! This TVN Korean drama stars Jung SoMin and Lee MinKi. Judy and Linda suspect that the drama writers don’t actually understand Doris Lessing's novel, "To Room Nineteen". This will only become more apparent next week when we talk about episodes 15-16. Judy and Linda have such a big girl-crush on Jungmin (Lee ChungAh) that they almost want Jiho (Jung SoMin) to fall in love with her instead of Sehee (Lee MinKi). Digressions: 1:09 - Judy tried Korean health supplements. 3:53 - "Once Upon A Time" musical episode 5:46 - Judy watched "Go Back Couple", a recent KBS drama. 47:43 - Pun time! Some Korean terms: 홍삼: [hong-sam] red ginseng. 효녀: [hyo-nyeoh] dutiful daughter. 냄새: [nem-seh] smell. 향기: [hyang-gi] fragrance. 오무라이스: [oh-moo-ra-ee-seu] Japanese fried rice with an omelet blanket. 파전: [pah-jeon] scallion pancake. 사우나: [sah-oo-na] sauna. 싸우나: [ssah-oo-na] informal inquisit

KDMEO Episode 66 - Because This Is My First Life (이번 생은 처음이라) 11-12
27/12/2017 Duración: 01h24minJudy and Linda crave a little bit more from episodes 11-12 of "Because This Is My First Life" (이번 생은 처음이라), a TVN Korean drama starring Jung SoMin and Lee MinKi. There has to be more of a build-up to Sehee's (Lee MinKi) sudden (?) romantic interest in Jiho (Jung SoMin). Surely, he doesn't get a sudden inspiration from making kimchi by the seaside? Judy is excited that Sooji (Esom) finally stands up to her disgusting work colleagues. Also, what's up with the strangely erotic introduction to Sehee's ex-wife (Lee ChungAh)? Digressions: 1:15 - Judy watched episode 1 of TVN's "Black" starring Go Ara and Song SeungHun. 5:05 - Linda has been watching "Once Upon A Time". Please save her. 5:58 - Judy recommends "Miss Fisher's Mysteries". 16:59 - Fandom as an "older person" 20:04 - Why some Korean websites don't seem to work properly Some Korean terms: 옥탑방: [ok-tap-bang] rooftop apartment. 성질: [seong-jil] temper. 남편: [nam-pyeon] husband. 남: [nam] stranger; anyone who's not a family member. 편: [pyeon] side. 외도: [weh-

KDMEO Episode 65 - Because This Is My First Life (이번 생은 처음이라) 9-10
20/12/2017 Duración: 01h08minJudy and Linda climb up Maslow's hierarchy of needs as they talk about episodes 9-10 of "Because This Is My First Life" (이번 생은 처음이라), a TVN Korean drama starring Jung SoMin and Lee MinKi. Apparently every single character has facial blindness, because no one recognizes Boknam (Kim MinKyu), even though he was all over the place at Jiho (Jung SoMin) and Sehee's (Lee MinKi) wedding. Judy and Linda roll their eyes aggressively at the Smug Marrieds (Bam! Bridget Jones' Diary reference!) and also sympathize with Horang (Kim GaEun) for wanting to fit into "normal" society. Judy begins to question Sehee's appeal as a romantic partner. Digressions: 31:54 - Pun time! 1:02:48 - Kimchi preparation Some Korean terms: 곰탕: [gom-tang] beefbone soup. 곰: [gom] bear. 탕: [tang] bathtub. 방석집: [bang-seok-jip] literally "cushion house"; brothel. 사과: [sa-gwa] homonym for "apple" and "apology". 제사: [jeh-sa] death ritual.
