Sinopsis
Interesting people. Intriguing conversations. Improvised comedy sketches?!?Sketch Comedy Podcast Show is a one-of-a-kind interview experience where people who are or do things that are extraordinary have a fun, relaxed and open conversation with someone who is ultimately curious... who then has the audacity to tell the guest that they are going to improvise a comedy sketch right then-and-there about the same things they talked about. The results are often surprising and fun!In one week the host, Stuart Rice, will have the conversation with the guest and in the next week he will have the sketch, which includes the setup for the sketch, the edited and produced sketch and, at the very end of the show, the raw, unedited version of the sketch if you are interested.Join in the fun! There are serious moments, funny moments, and all of the moments in-between!

"Take Me To Your Boy Band Leader" with Mike Phirman | Musician and Comedian
03/09/2017 Duración: 48minMike Phirman is a fantastic songwriter of comedy music for kids (not kids music, HUGE distinction. Seriously). I have been a fan of Mike’s since I heard “American Dinosaur” and “Anything” with his band “Hard ’n Phirm” with Chris Hardwick, and saw him perform live here in Portland a couple of years ago with my oldest daughter (her first concert and she actually liked Mike more than headliner Jonathan Coulton, but don’t tell him that in case he is ever on this show). One of the things I really like about Mike is that he is really genuinely nice and was just so pleasant to talk to. Also, I surprise him at the end of the conversation, but he was a really great sport about it! Just to be clear, I was actually really nervous doing this recording, because I am kind of a big fan. Also, we recorded two sketches! The second one will have to wait until the end of the season, but there is something to look forward to! Make sure to check out Mike’s latest album, “The Very Last Songs I Will Ever Record (Part 1)”

"Sultry Single Radio Hour" with Donal Connolly | Host of "Behave Yourself" and Scholar
09/04/2017 Duración: 59minWatch the sketch on YouTuber here!: Humans do all sorts of weird things, which is why this week’s guest, Donal Connolly, creates his podcast “Behave Yourself” (https://itun.es/gb/RZRQhb.c ) to get them all figured out. With a little bit of psychology, sociology, anthropology… well, all the ologies, Donal and his co-hosts explore why we do the things we do. Also, he has an accent, which makes what he says more interesting and more believable. Yes, I fall prey to that. We talk about his educational endeavors, what it’s like to date overseas vs. here in the US, and then we record a sketch about all those things! Ladies and Gentlemen, it’s right around the corner. That’s right, Season 2 of the new Sketch Comedy Podcast Show is almost upon us, and we are VERY excited about it. To celebrate, we are going to have a review drive, so that we can get some serious review numbers and we can give away something really cool! We are also going to solve the question of which company is better… Apple or Google! At least we

"Take Me to Church" with Jimmy Asbell | Author and more than a Survivor... a Thriver!
26/02/2017 Duración: 55minWatch the sketch on YouTuber here!: Let me tell you about Jim Asbell. Not only is Jim one of the best people I ever had the pleasure to work with, he saved my tookus more than once and helped me realize I was probably working in the wrong place, but he is also just a fantastic human being. What makes him fantastic? Well, he is one of the last people to have polio… wait, that doesn’t make him fantastic, that just makes him have polio…. Well, he is also dying from stage IV colon cancer! What the hell am I talking about? That doesn’t make him fantastic, that just makes me sad. Oh, I know what I meant to say: even though he has had hardship from the time he was very little, and got the rotten luck of getting cancer later in life, he approaches these things with more zest and gusto than I deal with someone at McDonalds getting my order wrong. Jim is so dedicated to living life to the fullest, and having other people do the same, he wrote an amazing book entitled “Live Well With Terminal Illness and Other Crappy

"I Got That New-Time Religion" with Jim Greenfield | Host of Conservative Talk Show "The Decline and Fall of America"
19/02/2017 Duración: 01h04minWatch the sketch on YouTuber here!: Stuart invites the nororious radio host Jim Greenfield onto the podcast. Jim has been fired from the radio 7 times, which is the same amount of times that Rush Limbaugh has been fired, the biggest difference is that Rush Limbaugh earns $32M a year. Jim is also a conservative talk show host, but has decided to give up on radio and start his own podcast, called “The Jim Greenfield Show Podcast”. Let’s see if he can become the first person ever fired from his own podcast. Although Stuart doesn’t agree with ANYTHING Jim says, it is still a good discussion. Note: The recording session had some technical issues (okay, Stuart’s computer ran out of power so they had to record on his phone) but it doesn’t take away from the interesting conversation. It’s going to be a great next couple of weeks! Stuart is working on the new episodes and is continuing to record with interesting people! Do you happen to know someone who is interesting? Suggest them! It’s easy, just send us a messag

"We Can Manage Our Way Through This" with The Sprocket Podcast | Portland's own Podcast about Bikes and Everything Else!
12/02/2017 Duración: 01h14minWatch the sketch on YouTube here!: The Sprocket Podcast (@SprocketPodcast) consists of Brock (@brockmon) and Aaron (@RdHareAmngHrses, Aaron is a bike in this… he was not very bike-like when we met, but maybe he was in disguise) . The Sprocket Podcast is a podcast about bikes, transit, life, and all sorts of good stuff in the wonderful world of Portland, OR. We had a lot of fun recording in their recording RV… I have to say I am a little jealous. We talk about all sorts of things: podcasting, Portland, management… the important things! Then, we record a really clever sketch. It was a ton of fun! Just another nice reminder that the new season of the podcast starts September 3rd! It’s going to be a hum-dinger of an episode! I don’t know if you’ve ever dinged a hum, but I have to tell you, it’s much better than if you don’t! Also… reviews! Subscribe and review! In this week’s sketch: They are mentors, guiding us through our careers and making us better workers, and people, in the long run. Whether they are dire

"It’s All in the Bag" with Katie BBB | You would never guess what she does in real-life.
05/02/2017 Duración: 01h11minWatch the sketch on YouTube here!: Stuart invites his friend Katie BBB to the show and… holy shit it turns out great! We solve swamp ass, discuss artificial intelligence and how pissed off it will be when it awakens and realizes how much we have sexually abused them and foo foo bags… we will leave that to the episode to describe it. We then take all of that and create a sketch. Seriously, this might be @Stoopac’s favorite recording session. It was almost lost to the world, but somehow he found a way to hack his system to find the audio. It is good that happened, it would be a tragedy if this was lost to the world! Are you liking the show? Then stop sitting there twiddling your fingers or keeping your hands on the wheel safely, head over to Apple Podcasts (bit.ly/SCPSitunes) or Google Play (bit.ly/SCPSgplay) and leave a review now! We all know one thing, pregnant women are smug as shit. And why wouldn’t they be? Think about it, a woman and a bad, drunken decision can result in the miracle of child birth. Fra

"Wanna Join a Band?" With Aaron Ryder | Sex-positive and the most energetic person... ever!
22/01/2017 Duración: 01h10minWatch the sketch on YouTube here!: This week, Stuart invites his friend Aaron Ryder onto the show because Aaron Ryder is unique. Unique in a way that is delightful and refreshing. He wears two different shoes all the time. He wears a necktie regardless of whether or not he is wearing a shirt. He is not an actor, but finds his way to stages because that’s the type of guy he is. Aaron also has some AMAZING FUCKING STORIES! He shares a couple of these stories, one of which will be told on stage in this year’s “Mystery Box Theater” coming up in August a show in Portland that is well worth your time and money (and, if you happen to go, you will likely see Stuart there). So, for this part this week I am going to ask you for a favor. Maybe you’ve been listening for a while, or maybe you are new, but I want to get a nice “best of” for Season 1 and would be fascinated to hear what you out there in podcast land feel are the best bits so far. Is there a part of a conversation that was awesome? Or maybe you have a favo

"Foreign Culinary Delight" with TJ Wichman | World Traveler
15/01/2017 Duración: 01h41minWatch the sketch on YouTube here!: Stuart welcomes his friend and world traveler TJ Wichman onto the show. In his first meeting of TJ, Stuart knew that TJ was an interesting guy and he was not wrong. TJ has spent a lot of time circling the globe, knows a number of languages and has probably lived in whatever place you can imagine. TJ is also a big fan of reggae music and, quite honestly, is often the circle peg trying to fit into the square hole; but he is so disarming and interesting people are still drawn to him. Because of this, Stuart feels he is a kindred spirit. Stuart is definitely hoping to see TJ’s face on National Geographic because that’s where he should be. Have you subscribed to the podcast yet? If not, it’s a good time to do it before September 3rd. I know I’m hitting everyone really hard with reruns just trying to get all of the old episodes updated and up on the new site, but I’m really loving this new format and I hope you are too. While you are subscribing, if you could leave a review, tha

"Totally Appropriate Audition" with Laura Welsh | Actress and Director
08/01/2017 Duración: 59minWatch the sketch on YouTube here!: This week brings the lovely and talented and… okay, to be honest Stuart has a little bit of a crush on this week’s guest. Here’s the story: after the episode with Kelly Guimont, who is also quite amazing, Laura Welsh liked the tweet and Stuart saw her red hair and was curious and checked out her profile for, you know, professional reasons, and noticed that she was a local actress in Portland. So, in the most non-creepy way ever he contacted her to see if she would be interested in doing the show! And, after doing a background check and having Stuart go through a battery of psychological tests, she was! It was a really fun conversation and during it we find out a lot about auditioning, acting, and that Laura is in a really great relationship… which is good. No really. I’m really happy for them. Go to the website under “Guests” and you can be a total creep… er, do some research yourself! She has an IMDB page and, embedded there, is her short about online dating which is real

"There is No Cure" with Alisha Holland | Co-Creator of "Sketch Comedy Podcast Show"
01/01/2017 Duración: 01h11minWatch the sketch on YouTube here!: Alisha comes back and does a recap of 2016. We talk about people dying and how Stuart thinks it’s kind of ridiculous that people get all worked up about when someone dies. The sketch reflects how ridiculous our obsession with this is. As we get closer to the launch of Season 2 of the new Sketch Comedy Podcast Show, I offer a challenge! What is better, Apple or Google? iOS or Android? Blackberry or Windows Phone? Just kidding. Actually, here is what the challenge is: If you are an Apple device user, go on to Apple Podcasts or iTunes and leave us a review. For every review posted September 3 to September 9 I will donate $1 to a charity. If you are a fan of Google and Android leave a review on the Google Play store and I will donate $ to a charity. How do we determine the charity? Whichever side wins this battle of the internet forever, a random reviewer will be picked and the entirety of the donation will be given to that person’s desired charity in their name! How easy is i

"Request for Leave" with Tom Flynn | Surprise guest and incredibly interesting!
18/12/2016 Duración: 26minWatch the sketch on YouTube here!: This was an interesting episode! What makes it interesting? Well, it was the first time Sketch Comedy Podcast Show made it onto the radio (okay, the first and only time), the final product was played at a fundraiser in front of over 100 people (and yes, it got laughs), and the entire thing was recorded and edited in one day for a podcast competition. It was also recorded, then lost, by yours truly and so I had to rerecord and re-edit the entire thing twice. It was may stressful, but the end result was fantastic! My guest on the show is Tom Flynn, who was at this same competition with me. Tom is interesting in many ways; not only was he the oldest person in the room but he is also over 70 and decided to leave his incredibly successful career to START SOMETHING COMPLETELY NEW! AT 70! It was mind-blowing! Also, he had been in the military and actually had to write to President Richard Nixon to get out of the military. Just awesome stories from Tom, and it was a lot of fun pre

"Nostalgia for Christmas" with Joseph "Zombie" Zuko | Author of "The Infected" Series of Books
11/12/2016 Duración: 01h14minWatch the sketch on YouTube here!: You know what you need in the middle of the summer? More Christmas! This week’s guest is Joe Zuko, who is an increasingly popular author of “The Infected” series of books (which is, unlike so many other of the other books released these days, about zombies. To be fair, this is a really good and really entertaining series of books that I highly suggest. Joe is a close friend of Stuart’s and was the other co-host of the “Shotgun and Scotch” podcast along with the guest from the 6th episode of this podcast Josh. This episode is a lot of fun and the sketch maybe ran on a little long, but I loved it. Okay, so one of the things I absolutely love is social media. No, really. I know, it sounds like I’m being sarcastic, but I REALLY love social media. Actually, I do. It’s fun when it is working! And how do I define social media working? Connection and conversation. So, if you like to social media, we have three really great ways to interact right now! Okay, two ways to interact rig

"Steamy Conversation" with Kris Keppeler | Host of the "Does This Happen To You?" Podcast
04/12/2016 Duración: 01h04minWatch the sketch on YouTube here!: Fellow podcaster and #PodernFamily member Kris Keppeler joins me in recording. Kris has a show called “Does This Happen To You?” where she explores the bizarre ways of getting through your day. On the show she reads really interesting articles from Medium. Kris is also an actress, and has been in a couple of horror movies. You can find out more about Kris on our website at sketchcomedypodcastshow.com in the guests section. Speaking of which, the new site is awesome! The episodes are front and center, it is incredibly easy to see what is new and to go back and listen to past episodes, and you can even use this site to subscribe to the podcast or get to our YouTube page. But, I think the coolest are some of the other features, like the ability to download the transcription of the podcast (what?), to get more information and bios on our guests (whaaaat?) and even leave us feedback (Whaaaaaaaat?!?!) or leave us a small or sizable donation (WHAAAAAAT???!!!!!????). I know, I’m e

"Can I Interest You In a Mattress?" with Super Fan Bob | The Biggest Fan of the Podcast
27/11/2016 Duración: 01h08minWatch the sketch on YouTube here!: Super Fan Bob joins Stuart for this episode. Bob Rhodes is a friend of Stuart’s in the real world and they both work in the same industry… you probably won’t be able to guess what industry that is. Bob used to be somewhat internet famous when he did stuff with Woot! and had a channel on Justin.TV… what’s that? You don’t remember Justin.TV? That makes you and just about nearly everyone else under the age of 40. How do you spell relief? Is it r-e-v-i-e-w-s? That’s how we here at Marathon Productions spell it at least. Do me a very quick favor. There are a number of you listening to these older episodes and for that, I thank you! Now, if you could do me a favor and touch the screen of your phone and go to the show notes and, if you scroll down you are going to see a couple of links. Click on the link next to the way you like to listen! Now, there is someplace on that destination that allows you to leave a review. I appreciate all of the reviews we have received, like the one

"(De)Motivational Speaker" with Dave Bullis | Host of the Film-Making Podcast "The Dave Bullis Show"
13/11/2016 Duración: 01h48sWatch the sketch on YouTube here!: Dave Bullis (@Dave_Bullis) of the, get this, “Dave Bullis Podcast” (DaveBullis.Com). I know! How amazing that he happens to host a podcast that has HIS NAME IN THE TITLE! That’s what I call Serendipity… which I would imagine Dave would agree with me is by far the GREATEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME! No, I doubt he would, but he would definitely tell me why it is not. Dave is a film maker and film enthusiast who has the highly successful Dave Bullis Podcast where he talks to filmmakers and other people in the industry for people that are interested in knowing more about the creative process and the technical aspects of making persistently changing images (which is a really douchey way of saying movies). What is your favorite way to listen to the podcast? Is it iTunes? (bit.ly/SCPSitunes) is it Stitcher? (bit.ly/SCPSstitch) Could it be you want to try something completely different and actually see something while listening? Head over to the official Sketch Comedy Podcast Show YouTu

"Inside a Record Store Circa 1992" with Steve Cox | Lawyer and Theater Director
30/10/2016 Duración: 01h11minWatch the sketch on YouTube here!: Hey Everyone! The guest this week is my friend Steve Cox, who is a lawyer fighting for people’s living places during the day and is a playwright, comedian, producer and author during the evening. He is just finishing up on a book he is working on now, but took some time to sit down with me (it is very, VERY precious) and connect about working in music stores in the 90’s. We share a lot of the same taste in music, and a lot of that taste was developed in the now-defunct stores we worked at. I love to connect with everyone, and here, let me help you connect! Contact the show on Twitter @SketchComPod, visit us on Facebook at http://facebook.com/sketchcomedypodcastshow, or email us at sketchcomedypodcastshow@gmail.com. You can also just go to our site, sketchcomedypodcastshow.com, and find the feedback button and do it there. "Everyone Loves the Goonies!" with Kelly Guimont | Tech Journalist and Fellow Podcaster on "The Aftershow"
23/10/2016 Duración: 01h29minListen to the sketch on YouTube here!: Hey Everyone! This week’s episode features Kelly Guimont (@verso) who is a tech journalist, fellow podcaster and also one of the heads of an organization that I absolutely adore: App Camp for Girls. App Camp is a summer program for young women for the sole purpose of teaching them how to code… with no boys allowed. You can learn more by going to appcamp4girls.com and I wish very much that I would have forced my daughter’s to go. Unfortunately, they are both too old now, but it’s not too late for your daughters. I’m just a rotten parent. I’m getting super excited about season 2 of the new Sketch Comedy Podcast Show. I’m still looking for guests, so if you know someone, are someone, or can think of someone you don’t know that you feel would be great on the show, let me know! I need to contact 100 people in the next couple of weeks, aspirational guests from many walks of life, and wonder if I can get some help on people to do this show with. I have some really great gues

"DADvice" with Ken Hansen | Director of Youth Social Programs
09/10/2016 Duración: 01h03minListen to the sketch on YouTube here!: Hey Everyone! This week I invite a friend of a friend onto the show, Ken Hanson. Ken started having children REALLY EARLY in life, so all of his adult life he has been dealing with his own kids (and exes) as well as other people’s kids in his working life. I like this episode a lot because it is all about the conversation and just having a nice, relaxed conversation (that may get interrupted by one of his kids). I recently started a new company, Marathon Productions, LLC. This is really exciting for me, because this makes creating podcasts actually like a real thing! I am also helping other people start podcasts. The first podcast I am helping with is a conservative talk show… which is waaaay out of my wheelhouse but it is fun creating and crafting a new show and new format. If you know someone who is looking for help in starting a podcast and would like to learn how to effectively produce, publish and market a podcast (I sell myself short often), just let them know ab

"This Debate is Masterful" with Margaret and Ali | Podcast Hosts of the “I Can’t Even” Podcast
02/10/2016 Duración: 01h01minListen to the sketch on YouTube here!: Hey Everybody! This week’s episode is a threesome! Now that I have your attention, this episode features myself as well as Ali (@ali) and Margaret (@marg) of the “I Can’t Even” podcast, the show that discusses adulating as an old millennial. They tackle such topics such as relationships, politics, women’s rights and even dick pics! You can catch their podcast on iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/i-cant-even/id1163280696?mt=2&at=1000l8hH. I don’t know why people complain about millennials, these two were fantastic! Just a warning, the sketch is one of the shaggiest of dog stories we have ever done. It’s going to be really confusing until you hear the last line, then it might be worth listening again to really get the funny out of it. Every week I get on here and tell you something new and exciting about what I’m doing or about podcasts or whatever. This week, I am going to ask you to reach out and touch your phone! See the artwork for the podcast, did you know

"I Dream of India" with Amber Peeler | Stuart's Daughter and fan of "The Walking Dead"
25/09/2016 Duración: 01h01minListen to the sketch on YouTube!: Hey Everyone! This episode was one of the most special and was ultimately one of the most frustrating episodes I ever recorded. After living on a farm in an intended community my daughter came back and had really opened her mind to a lot of things that allowed her to become one with the universe and really find herself at 19. I thought it was fascinating. Amber, my daughter, on the other hand was really uncomfortable talking about any of it. So, we recorded this episode 3 times and ignored any of the things that happened at the farm. That’s okay, because of the Walking Dead! It’s still a really fun episode and Amber is just delightful in the conversation and with the sketch. There is a new section on the website for feedback. I love feedback. I love it even when it’s just someone trolling and telling me to eat my own dick. So, click on the “Feedback / Donation” button on the bottom of the page and really let me have it. Also, while you are there, if you feel like it’s wort
