Free Mustard Seeds

On Divine Mercy Sunday, we look at John 20 and the famous encounter between Jesus and Thomas. An encounter of mercy that lead to the amazing confession of faith from St. Thomas..."my Lord and my God!" (Jn 20:28)  

"Mystical" doesn't mean make believe.  God, who is outside of time, and for Whom everything is possible, brings us into the living mystery of the Resurrection.  Encountering the Risen Lord Jesus in His infinite love for us we face a choice...

Entering into Holy Week on Palm Sunday, Jesus invites us deep into His passion-filled heart to experience the Paschal Mystery anew and more profoundly than ever before. Revelations of His amazing love are ready to be poured out as we enter mystically into the events of Holy Week...

When the woman caught in adultery experienced the healing love of Jesus, a new life began for her. (Jn 8:11)  St. Paul, who also had a profound conversion experience, described his heart on fire for God in these words, "I have indeed been taken possession of by Christ Jesus" and "forgetting what lies behind...I continue my pursuit towards the goal, the prize of God's upward calling, in Christ Jesus." (Phil 3:12-14)

(Ex 33:12;18)  As we gaze on the glory of Jesus looking upon in the Eucharist, His love continues to pour transformational grace upon us...

As Abraham gazed up at the stars, He was assured by God that what God has said to Abraham would indeed come to pass.  Abraham "put his faith in the Lord who attributed it to him as an act of righteousness." (Gen 15:6)  In the Transfiguration on Mt. Tabor, Jesus gives beautiful glimpse of the life of holiness that all who put thier faith in Him are to receive in the New and Eternal Covenant...

We consider the words of Jesus, "from the fullness of the heart the mouth speaks" (Lk 6:45) and the reality that as temples of the Holy Spirit, we have the ability to speak words full of heaven's love...

In Luke 6:27-38, we come to some of the teaching of Jesus that is certainly not easy to live out consistently: love of enemies, giving mercy, refraining from judgement and condmenation of people, and radical generosity. Considering the love God has for us and the power of God's love within us, we can experience and say with renewed passion: your way is better Lord.

Nearing the end of her long battle of sickness, one of God's elderly precious daughters declared these words, "oh, I'm happy to be a child of God."  She showed me how profoundly true the inspired words of Jeremiah are, "blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose hope is the Lord..."(Jeremiah 17:9)

As Peter knelt before Jesus, he experienced and confessed his sinfulness...and encountered a storm of love that has never been defeated by anyone who has looked straight into it: the merciful gaze of Jesus.

This message was given at the closing of a retreat for teens soon to be confirmed at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in the Cayman Islands.  Daily there is a choice to be made to follow Jesus, and in our every day lives there are some simple, and yet profound things we can do to help us receive the grace to live life more fully in the Holy Spirit...
