Well, well, well. Here we are again, slightly bitter, disappointed, frustrated, yet somehow very happy to be here, talking with yet another great guest for this week’s podcast. This week, after a disappointing match against Burley, where one of our own fans, Sam Vokes, scored against us to take all three points, I’m joined by Jake Hughes (@JJHughes_ on Twitter). This week some pretty good things happened. Saints got three points, we scored from open play, The Astros made the World Series for the first time since 2005, and the Dynamo got a home playoff match by finishing 4th in the conference. Overall a pretty good sporting weekend from my perspective. It was made even better by getting to chat with Owen Hawes, @Owen_TheSaints on Twitter. Owen writes a blog- owenthesaintsblog.wordpress.com- and contributes to the 90min football YouTube Channel (his most recent video can be found here). In addition to blogging and vlogging, he’s a creative writing and drama student in Kingston. I very much enjoyed getting his perspective on the match and the team, and also appreciate him giving me so much of his time. There are definitely cracks in the team that need addressing, and supporters are becoming increasingly more worried about the lack of points on the board given the schedule we’ve had to this point.   To help me break down the match against Newcastle this week is Richard Brereton, editor of the @Saints_Panel. I think I made the most of my international break. I spent some time with family, ruined a family picture, jumped from a moving vehicle, and a bunch of other things I’m not willing to commit to writing. If you followed my Instagram story I’d like to apologize for what you may have seen.   I also used the break as an opportunity to talk with three different podcast hosts about their podcasts, Saints, and our upcoming match against Newcastle. This week Saints went to Selhurst Park and refused to go Dutch, taking all three points from a Crystal Palace side playing their first match under new manager Roy Hodgson. Saints played well for most of the match, with good performances all the way up the spine of the team. I’m joined by Blake Hampton to discuss the match and take some listener questions. The international break can be a time of boredom, but, luckily for us, the first half of it was filled with the final week of the summer transfer window. Depending on your perspective, that could make it better or worse. I, for one, am glad the window is over. VVD is ours, we’ve reinforced the backline and added to the midfield. However, we didn’t add to the attacking third. The initial results are in and, for this episode, we’re going to talk to 5 different people and get their grades on the Saints’ summer transfer business.   I’d like to thank all of my guests for their time and effort. I spoke with Tayo Adetoye in mid-June, right around the time Claude Pue was released. When we spoke, I was most interested in his story and experience. I wanted to know more about how he became a fan of the Southampton Football Club, what drew him to pick the Saints over all of the other possibilities in World Football. What became clear as we spoke was Tayo’s passion for the club. This week’s show is a bit different. There is no talk of tactics, formations, or transfers. Instead I had the opportunity to speak with Kiko Rodriguez, @KikoRod9, who is, among other things, a founding member of @DRNSport (he also happens to be JRod’s dad, so, yeah). In light of the article on Steven Caulker a few weeks ago, Kiko and I spoke about mental health, mostly about how it is viewed in sport, specifically football, and how our battles with depression impacted our lives.
