  • Inverted Orthodoxy 380- AER, One Flesh and Smudging ceremonies

    03/04/2025 Duración: 54min

In this weeks episode of Inverted Orthodoxy, Pastors Kyle, Blake, and Doug discuss the following questions:475. AER: you were discussing socialism and communism in heaven. What are your thoughts on the verse talking about storing up our treasures in heaven? Matthew 6:19-21 what is this referring to?476. AER Just finished watching this week’s show and I had to laugh at you guys Reminded me of three old guys sitting around a table at Timmie’s talking about a hockey game that was played 20 years ago. Love and appreciate the show. Keep them coming.477. AER Singapore, a benevolent dictatorship, is supposedly a “Christian nation “. If the citizens are Christian, then they are bland, entitled, and not exactly on fire for god. I realize that in describing individuals, that would be an unfair stereotype, but I mean it as the characteristic of the nation.478. AER In your podcast last week you talk about the separation of church and state, the end of Christendom. With the upcoming election in Canada, one party has propo

  • Inverted Orthodoxy 379- AER, Swedish Jesus, and Anti Christian Bias

    26/03/2025 Duración: 52min

In this weeks episode of Inverted Orthodoxy, Pastors Kyle, Blake, and Doug discuss the following questions: (1:37 into episode)AER: Communism did not fail when the Berlin Wall fell. That was socialism. Socialism aims to distribute wealth and property equally while communism creates equality by eliminating private wealth and property. Socialist countries have a disgusting number of oligarchs and billionaire politicians. I believe communism can only be achieved in heaven.(4:59 into episode)AERLast week at the end of your discussion about different ideas of hell, you said that there should be space in churches for people to wrestle with these ideas where the bible can be interpreted in different ways and for us to be able to think about these ideas in the context of who we know God to be. I just want to say yes! And thank you for creating a place where we can ask the difficult question, hear your thoughts and ideas and it can challenge our thinking and lead us into a clearer/deeper understanding of who god is an

    19/03/2025 Duración: 52min

In this weeks episode of Inverted Orthodoxy, Pastors Doug, Kyle, and Blake answer the following questions: (1:27 into episode) 1. After hearing previous conversations on what will happen when Jesus returns, specifically pertaining to revelation in this podcast. How would you all, and maybe specifically Doug, deal with parables found in Matthew 13:36-43 Matt 13:47-52, where it says the righteous and the wicked will be separated and the wicked will be thrown into the fiery pits?Resources: Inspired Imperfection by Greg Boyd, Her Gates will Never be Shut by Brad Jersak, and The Widening of Gods' Mercy by Richard and Christopher Hayes (43:52 into episode) 2.How many communions would it take to eat an entire Jesus?Do you have a question you've been wanting answered? • Inverted Orthodoxy 377- AER, God the director, Christians fighting Fascism?! and maybe more

    12/03/2025 Duración: 54min

In this weeks episode, Pastors Kyle, Blake, and Doug answer and discuss the following questions: 2:12 into episode AER My question is ,if someone opens up a subject or opinion of a sensitive nature and I am on completely opposite to that view & I know it could cause a quarrel, how do I respond?Try & change the subject?Give my view? At the same time be sensitive and try and understand the other persons view as well.Or just respond by saying it's better if we don't discuss the subject because we are on such different opinions.14:01 into episode AER Based on last week’s first question. Does God inhabit all of these possible universes or just our own?16:53 into episode Proverbs 3 talks about the Lord directing our steps. How do we submit to that? How do I know I’m actually following his direction not just my own desires? In my experience it seems rather confusing most days.29:24 into episode As Christian’s, how should we respond to fascism when it comes to government. When we have world leaders on a political sta

  • Inverted Orthodoxy- 376 AER, The universe, is Heaven just singing?!

    05/03/2025 Duración: 55min

In this weeks episode 376, Pastors Doug and Kyle discuss the following questions:(2:34 into episode)AER:Aer? Or just a separate question?Last week you talked about the power of God being demonstrated and presence of the Holy Spirit, it made me wonder how does testimony support this?(6:20 into episode)1. I normally put questions in the box on the website, but this one is seemed longer and more convoluted following a conversation I had with my son… feel free to not add it to the podcast if it is not relevant. I’m happy to add more detail if needed. We watched this video about the universehttps://youtu.be/isdLel273rQ?si=-mYVGG5lT2TAPk7BQuestion 1The question is, do you think the universe is infinite or finite? And is heaven inside the universe or outside of the universe? Question 2When it says that the increase of his government and peace will know no end (Isaiah 9:7) Does that support the idea that the universe is expanding along with red shift data? After a long discussion which was mostly my son telling me I

  • Inverted Orthodoxy 375- AER on relationships, Relationship Expectations, and the Prince of Eygpt

    27/02/2025 Duración: 59min

In this weeks episode of Inverted Orthodoxy, Pastors Blake, Kyle, and Doug discuss the following: AER- 1:12 into episode AER On last weeks topic of friendships with the opposite sex. do you think you’re assessment of the situation might be coming from being raised in the purity culture era or mindset? I would argue that it might be a skewed view and would be curious to know how you feel purity culture impacted each of you both in your teens to now.Question 1 -17:07 into episode Within expectations in others, I struggle with expecting such a high standard, when I know that imperfections can be beautiful. When I expect more, it’s never ended well for me. What is the difference between hope and expectations? And how, biblically, can I reach hope within others and the future rather than disappointment and unrealistic expectations? Instead of expecting god to do something… how can hear what is from him in these circumstances?Question 2 -49:02 into episode I was recently watching the movie “Prince of Egypt” and not

  • Inverted Orthodoxy- 373 AER, Lust, and Relationships

    14/02/2025 Duración: 59min

In this weeks episode of Inverted Orthodoxy, Pastors Kyle, Blake, and Doug discuss the following questions:Aer: Following the conversation last week about lust, is lust always sexual? And what is the difference between lust and coveting? For example I have often watched home make over shows, and felt stuck financially as we couldn’t do renos or afford to move. But I have spent lots of time looking at houses, wishing we could move, imagining my dream house and how I would decorate it. This is not just looking at a house and thinking it is beautiful, the eye is fixed and focused on imagining a life there. Is this lust? How should I treat and honour others biblically ? Friends or my wife ?Biblical platonic boundaries within relationships with the other sexDo you have a question you've been wanting answered? • Inverted Orthodoxy- 372 AER, Seven deadly sins, Discipline, and more!

    05/02/2025 Duración: 53min

In this weeks episode of Inverted Orthodoxy, Pastors Kyle, Blake, and Doug discuss the following questions: (4:44 into episode) AERI’m sorry, but you didn’t really hit the nail on the head with the sex before marriage thing, and being males and being married makes a difference. The “no harm no foul” argument on the other side (ie. not investigating causes no harm) can actually be harmful. I have a (female) friend who did not consider this aspect before getting married and they are on the verge of divorce. Spending time in sex tells you a lot about a person, it’s not just about “pleasure”.(13:38 into episode) Where does the concept of seven deadly sins come from? There are lots of lists of sins in the Bible, but I don't see one that is specifically based on what we'd call the "seven deadly sins". (18:57 into episode) Having recently read the book Letters by a Modern Mystic. Is it possible to live life in such a manner that we think of God every minute? If so, what are some practical things that make this possi

  • Inverted Orthodoxy 371 - AER (adult subject matter)

    01/02/2025 Duración: 51min

In this weeks episode, Pastors Blake and Doug discuss the following listener questions:AER: Is premarital sex between TWO MATURE PEOPLE REALLY DEVALUING ANYTHING/anyone? I think I would never marry someone without “getting the full picture”.After listening to this week’s message, it makes me wonder how any Christian can vote conservative (right wing, capitalist, individualist), as you focus on working together: ‘What’s best for the group is what should occur’ . I also wish our world leaders who claim they are Christian’s would listen to this message. Thanks for joining us on this episode of the Inverted Orthodoxy Podcast! We hope you enjoyed the journey and found some thought-provoking insights along the way. Don't forget, you can submit your questions at www.invertedorthodoxy.com. Catch our latest episodes on YouTube every Wednesday, and find us wherever you listen to podcasts. Until next time, keep exploring and embracing the beautiful complexities of faith!

  • Inverted Orthodoxy 370- AER, Paul, Meaning of Life, and Theologically based worship music

    22/01/2025 Duración: 52min

In this weeks episode, Pastors Kyle, Blake and Doug discuss the following listener questions: (1:24 into episode) Thank you for the time you’ve taken to answer my questions. I value the sensitivity, wisdom, tenderness and how you’ve taken in helping me process my questions. This pod cast is life giving.(3:07 into episode) Thank you very much for the time each of you have taken to sit in the quiet with the Lord to learn his wisdom and let him mold your understanding of His character. You’ve obviously let your roots grow deep in his love and now we get to enjoy the fruit of that process. Keep going! I also really appreciate your thoughts on God’s justice. It hit me: God’s vengeance looks like God redeeming Paul. God bless.(4:05 into episode) In Acts 21:4, Paul, by people speaking through the Spirit was told not to go to Jerusalem. Later, he was again told that he would be persecuted and die there. Yet he was sure that he needed to do this. Why did he do it? Was it because he wanted to be like Jesus? Was he tryi

  • Inverted Orthodoxy 369- AER and How do you pastor people through abuse?

    15/01/2025 Duración: 46min

In this weeks episode, Pastors Kyle, Blake, and Doug answer the following questions. In one of the last few podcasts you were discussing homosexuality and Kyle said he’d landed in a non-affirming position, which is fine obviously as I believe there is valid Biblical support either way but he mentioned that one of the big reasons he landed there was the idea that we were created to procreate which obviously doesn’t happen in a homosexual relationship. However, I would like to hear more about that as if that is one of the reasons for landing in a non-affirmative position wouldn’t that also mean he’d be opposed to heterosexual relationships in which they choose not to have children? Or does it make it wrong if people end up in a relationship in which they are unable to have children, would that mean they’d picked the “wrong” partner since God made us for procreation? What do you think God considers justice? He is slow to anger because he doesn’t want anyone to perish. do you think he doesn’t care about vengeance o

  • Inverted Orthodoxy 368- Sexual expression, Lust, Paul and teaching about Jesus

    08/01/2025 Duración: 56min

In this weeks episode, Pastors Kyle, Blake, and Doug answer the following questions. *Please note the first question in this episode deals with sensitive topics. If you have little ones near, we recommend tuning in at a later time*1. Warning for content of people watching with kids around - What do you think God thinks about masturbation? What do you think He expects sexually for single people?2.I’ve been reading about Paul and the early missionaries how they were able to go into worship places and tell people about Jesus. We don’t have that “luxury” today, but sometimes when we encounter people who don’t know Jesus, we want to tell them, How can we start up and then tell them about Him? What do we say?Do you have a question you've been wanting answered? Head on over to our website www.invertedorthodoxy.com to submit a question. • Inverted Orthodoxy 367 - AER on laws and how to remain in Christ

    02/01/2025 Duración: 55min

Blake Doug and Kyle are back this week with three more questions. See them below or follow the links at the bottom of our description for more info or to ask your own question.1. Follow up to the question re: murder which I asked. Thanks for taking the time to respond to it, despite not having context for it. The context for this question was a comparable to a previous episode's question on whether homosexuality was sin. One could go on to ask - is adultery sin? Is murder sin? Is pre-marital sex sin? All of these activities, under the law of Moses, were considered a breaking of God's moral law for the new nation of Israel. They were considered out-of-bounds, ungodly, and unhealthy for God's newly delivered people, as a Nation under Jehovah who were to be markedly different from the Nations around them. To discourage these activities, law was given with consequences, punishment, and in some cases, retribution and death. Fast forwarding to the NT, the church is made up of Jew and Gentile in one body, one new Is

  • Inverted Orthodoxy- THROWBACK EPISODE revisiting episode 338

    25/12/2024 Duración: 54min

Merry Christmas Inverted Orthodoxy Listeners! We are giving our pastors another week off to enjoy with their families. This week's episode revisits questions from episode 338!In episode 338, Pastors Doug, Kyle, and Blake discuss the following:1. 2:25 into episodeApril 10 - Can you worship to music that isn’t Christian? Is it possible to feel connected to god through music that isn’t targeted that way?2. 18:50 into episode Apr 10 - I think I’m struggling with my belief. I’m not sure how to believe in a god that would send so many bad things and grief my way. If god is truly all knowing and all loving, why would he make my life be so full of loss and heartache? In my mind, that is not a kind godDo you have a question you've been wanting answered? Head on over to our website www.invertedorthodoxy.com to submit a question. • Inverted Orthodoxy 366- Is murder sin? How does Living Springs disciple and John connected to Mary

    18/12/2024 Duración: 52min

Doug and Kyle are back this week with three more questions. See them below or follow the links at the bottom of our description for more info or to ask your own question. 1. Is murder sin? If so, why?2. How does Living Springs Church disciple people? What is the process? Where does it start? How does it continue? What is the aim?3. After thinking about Jesus, taking the time to connect his mother with John and vice versa, as mother and son, I wondered why He did it—Mary had other sons, including James, who would end up following Jesus’ teachings? But then I wondered whether Jesus knew his family, including his mother, needed the discipleship of someone like John, who could help her see why Jesus had to die. Perhaps it was through this that James came to understand and become a leader(?)Do you have a question you've been wanting answered? • Inverted Orthodoxy 365- AER on Discipleship plans

    11/12/2024 Duración: 41min

We are back this week with some AER that took the whole episode. We discuss models of discipleship 1. It seemed to me in the nov 27th podcast that your basic answer to the question re connection and helping others etc. Was: jesus' way is different than how you live and you need to help people. Go figure it out yourself as to how you can include/help people in your life and get on with it! That doesn't strike me as how Jesus' or the apostles did it. Jesus trained 12 men and had another 100 or so around him all the time who were taking in the training as they went along. So how can the church model this? What intentional training are we providing for core leaders on how to live out the Jesus way, and what groups are actively being developed so more people can grow with those leaders? Clubs are good for connection but there is no training /mentoring happening there. Would LS consider some form of training / Mentoring for those interested in learning the more proactive way of Jesus?Do you have a question you've b

  • Inverted Orthodoxy 364- Man born blind, The definition of Gods, and maybe more!

    04/12/2024 Duración: 45min

The guys are on a staff retreat! But we couldn't leave you without an episode. Kyle, Blake, and Doug discuss the following questions: 1. When in John 9, the disciples asked Jesus who had caused a man to be born blind, how could they presume that it might have been the man that had sinned if he was born that way? Did they think that it was possible for God to pre-determine whether someone was going to be sinful? I don’t understand their thinking behind this, but wonder if I’m missing something. And even more important question in John 9. It says, and talking about spiritual faith:“Some Pharisees overheard him and said, “Does that mean you’re calling us blind?”41 Jesus said, “If you were really blind, you would be blameless, but since you claim to see everything so well, you’re accountable for every fault and failure.”Wouldn’t this mean that those who are spiritually blind are not at blame? If they don’t recognize God, are they blameless?2. I can’t seem to get off of John 10. Verse 34 Jesus tells us that in the

  • Inverted Orthodoxy #363- Marriage, Divorce, Community, and Doug really dislikes soup

    27/11/2024 Duración: 48min

In this weeks episode pastors Doug, Blake, and Kyle discuss the following, and we learn Pastor Doug has strong opinions on soup..1:42 into episode, Resource Bema Season 3 Is marriage after divorce ok, biblically speaking?26:56 into episode, Resource Book: The Benedict Option Recently, I was helping a single mom look after her kids after school so she could work late. She was grateful and said that while many others know her situation, nobody else has offered help. This shocks and saddens me. We’re supposed to be the church and this is where I think “how can this happen”, “we should all be more willing to be involved in each other’s lives”… BUT I recognize this is easy for me to say because I’m an extrovert, I love the idea of close-knit community, I’m willing to disrupt our family rhythms for the sake of helping someone, that's my image of honouring christ. What about people who aren’t like me though? I want to tell others to follow my example and love others by giving up their time to show love to each other

  • Inverted Orthodoxy #362- AER on Church and state, Jesus' burning eyes and Books for teens

    21/11/2024 Duración: 52min

In this weeks episode, Pastors Kyle, Blake, and Doug discuss the following:1. AER Hi there some aEr for you. Just listened to the episode from this week about Christian nationalism and politics. Wondering if you guys all agree that church and state should be kept separate2. What do you think is the significance of Jesus ’ eyes being like blazing fire and feet being like burnished bronze in revelation 2:183. This might be most relevant to Blake given history in youth ministry but also interested in all perspectives! I recently listened to an episode where you gave some book recommendation (working through them! Awesome!). Wondering if you could recommend some readings specific to teens that will help them grow in their faith and understand how to function as a Christian young person in a complicated culture?
