PIM Webinar Series: Helping smallholder farmers manage risks
21/09/2018 Duración: 01h05minThe PIM Webinar “Helping smallholder farmers manage risks: Innovations to improve agricultural insurance” was conducted on September 19, 2018 by Berber Kramer (IFPRI) and Patrick Ward (Duke Kunshan University). We discussed two research-based innovations in the agricultural insurance: (1) bundling of index-based insurance products with novel climate-smart risk-reducing agricultural technologies and practices, and (2) a new technology that uses smartphone photo data over time to create a new picture-based insurance product. The major advantage of field-based monitoring is that it can be used to reduce basis risk. Findings from research in India and Bangladesh were presented. IFPRI Policy Seminar : Water Security in a Changing World - 7/12/2018 - SFan
17/07/2018 Duración: 07minSpeaker: Shenggen Fan, Director General, IFPRI Secure water supplies are critical to future sustainable economies and societies. Unprecedented human impact is directly degrading resource quality on every continent and, through global warming, threatens vast change in hydrological systems, with impacts on water availability and access in nearly all parts of the world. Those with fewest resources to tackle these changes will inevitably suffer the most. Please join us as we inaugurate IWMI’s US-based office in Washington, DC, with a discussion of our collaborative research to tackle these complex challenges. The seminar will focus on new and promising solutions to ensure a more water-secure future with less risk and greater equity for rapidly growing populations and economies worldwide.
