Beer Mistress Microbrew Review

The original team is back where they started and celebrating 50 amazing Episodes! The Beer Mistress, the Professor, and Just Jasen take on another Rogue VooDoo Doughnut flavor, some DuClaw's Sweet Baby Jesus, and Southern Tier's Choklat. The crew reminisces about their favorite moments, favorite beers, and does everything they can to avoid one more round of trivia.

Sean Valentine is back and he brought great beer! This week the gang samples Brooklyn Brewery’s Sorachi Ace, Firestone Walker’s Reserve Porter, and Dogfish Head’s Black and Blue in preparation for the much anticipated podcast Episode 50! There are Amish stories, multiple references to nudity, and some interesting pairing ideas. Sit back, pop open a bottle and settle in for the shenanigans.

Beers that have been smuggled in luggage are the center of this week’s podcast. The Beer Mistress’s recent trip to Scotland is highlighted as well as British imperialism and theatre stories from the team! Cider, scotch, Trout Fishing in America and several listener questions all make appearances!

Thanks to our new best friends at Adroit Theory Brewing Company, we got to try the now legendary Heady Topper from The Alchemist up in Vermont, where more and more fantastic beers seem to be trickling down from. Sometimes it’s good to be downstream I guess. Saving the best for first we then move on to a bright juicy pineapple beer from PA and finished off with a coconut milk stout. There’s really no theme this week. But it sure was fun. We’ll be taking a little time off as the Beer Mistress goes traveling, but we can’t wait to tell you about all the exciting adventures on her return.

Our favorite Imperial Redhead Jordi is back as the guest star in this colorful episode which highlights Jolly Pumpkin, The Lost Abbey and a last minute surprise from RJ Rockers. The crew laughs at the Beer Mistress’s farm girl roots, tells horror stories of blood donation, and discusses condiments as souvenirs. Yeah, let’s focus on that instead of the innuendo and customs smuggling.

With two beer dinners lined up in Pittsburgh, the Dashing Rogue team decided we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to try some local brews as we hung out with one of our favorite bands, Rising Regina. Drummer Eric George was kind enough to guest star as well as deliver some local knowledge. Born and bred in Pittsburgh, he was a natural go to, also - he likes beer- so we thought that was pretty cool. Find out what we have to say about Western Pennsylvania breweries: Church Brew Works, Helltown Brewery and Penn Brewery.

Jasen joins the team to try out some Peppercorn Saison and Tripel from two different breweries, Elysian Brewing’s Oddland series and Brewer’s Art. The spice builds as we try a podcast from bed (not quite as saucy as you might imagine, but when you’re on the road so much, sometimes you have to improvise) and talk about some future beer challenges the Rogue Team might be taking on.

Wicked Rich is on a roll: we must either really like him, or we’re just that desperate. This week we feature Avery- a great brewery out of Boulder, CO. In what promises to be our raciest podcast to date full of innuendo and some not so subtle comments, we might also talk about these delicious beers. We do talk about other outrageous things like: beer mixology, NJ being stronger than the storm (and the wonderful song that goes with it) and the battle of Gettysburg.

This is our 42nd podcast and therefore it is the answer to life, the universe, and everything. Happy 4th of July birthday to Cousin Max…and America, we guess. A special 4 person podcast featuring The Beer Mistress, The Professor, Cousin Max and Wicked Rich as we try St. Bernardus Tokyo version, Brooklyn’s 25th Anniversary Lager and of course the Firestone Walker 16th Anniversary. Much mayhem ensues as all 4 of us attempt to tell too many stories at once. Keep your ears sharp or you might miss something!

We invited Erin to come back and try beer that might not taste like…African water (we are still pretty sure you shouldn’t drink water in Africa) and these are our results. Also these ones have an ABV worth mentioning which means Erin might make it to the end without slurring. Let’s find out! The Rogue team drinks some new beers from L’avery and makes fun of the Professors financial situation (I’m a teacher for goodness sake - it doesn’t pay well).

So the team tried a new beer company, and we bet you’ve never heard of them, but we sure think you might soon. Adroit Theory Brewing based in VA with such incredible beers as Cannibalism, T/P/D and G/I/A/A. A style for everyone, amazing bottle art and crazy pairing suggestions. Needless to say, we approve and look forward to another Dashing Rogue trip soon!

The gang tries out some new beers that are, well, why don’t you find out? Needless to say we talk about all sorts of things, some of them even about the beers we’re drinking, some of them about beers we wish we were drinking or beers we drank in the past. It’s a rambling adventure of intrigue and food.

The Professor, the Beer Mistress, and Wicked Rich drink La Fin Du Monde, Brigand, and Green Flash Tripel this week as they discuss the differences in these three tripels. The crew also discusses growing beyond Hefeweizen, the Cooking Channel, and beer with Ian’s face on it. They walk the line on their PG-13 rating, but the racey conversation is wildly entertaining.

Cousin Max is back with the Professor and the Beer Mistress, as the team attacks berry beers. Believe it or not, the crew almost stays on track! Well, until you have the Beer Mistress’s rant about chocolate croissants, Ian’s Coors Light admission, and an account of the Professor’s recent trip to Avery Brewing in Denver. Featured beers are: Weyerbacher Riserva, Widmer Brothers Raspberry Russian Imperial Stout, and Southern Tier’s Plum Noir.

Rich Lee and Cousin Max finally unite forces with the Beer Mistress to refute last week's coup by the Professor. The trio sips on Ass Kisser Smoked Porter and Clown Shoes Vampire Slayer while discussing Robin Hood Men in Tights, Pliny the Younger, and Bar Hopping technique. Rich and Max face off in a war of bad puns, and the crew answers a listener question about beer that makes you gassy. You can't afford to miss such helpful tips!

The Professor teams up with a faithful listener, and a real friend for those who were doubtful, to drink a fantastic sour called Petrus and a deep rich stout, Great Divide’s Yeti Imperial Stout. They are joined by Scott Ryan who is new to the craft beer scene and making great strides in his consumption of fantastic new beers under the guidance of the Professor.

Much anticipated guest star Bartender Matt joins the Beer Mistress and the Professor for this episode where we discuss Lancaster Brewing Company and New Belgium. Matt promises a bottle of Dom Perignon for a future episode, and talks about some of the most exclusive bars in Philadelphia. Do you know the password to the Speakeasy? Tune in and find out!

The Beer Mistress and the Professor team up with the one and only home brewer extraordinaire Verlyn to chat about Cousin Max’s Rhubarb challenge. 4 different styles of beer from Verlyn prefaced by the Ommegang 15 Year Anniversary Ale. Needless to say, it was an excellent day. Listener questions answered, coffee and cigars discussed. If this place wasn’t so far away from Philadelphia I think I’d find myself here much more often. Some beer is talked about, but mostly it devolves into bizarre stories about the truth and myth of the Bermuda Triangle, The Sand Lot and other baseball related items. There is some mention of beer, and the back to back 8.7 percent A.B.V. does wonders for Ryan.
