Spring is here but flaky and Steve Carney says the ice is officially too fragile for him to feel good being on the ice so he’s going to safely store his ice fishing gear until next winter. Carney also gets into some of the techniques he uses when he fishes the Missouri River and Rainy River (it's different from going out on the Mississippi and St. Croix). Jess Myers returns to the Sports Weekend with Steve Thomson to preview the Wild’s game against the Blues tonight… the schedule isn’t kind to the Minnesota sweaters but they’re at least enjoying some early spring weather. Jess talks about how scoring has been tough lately at home but at least the Wild are playing good defense. Steve asks about a potential jolt to the lineup as some big names get closer to return.

Phil Miller checks in with Steve Thomson from Fort Myers and Twins Spring Training after a win over Boston earlier this afternoon. The team has been mostly healthy so far and Phil really likes what he’s seeing from the main pitching staff so far. Phil also gets into a piece he wrote earlier in the week for the Star Tribune and the not so meaningless Spring Training games for those fighting for jobs.

Mark Cook (Head Coach of the Maple Grove Girls Basketball) joins Steve Thomson to talk about his top seeded Crimison as they head into the State Tournament next week. Coach Cook praises his group of seniors that have been playing together since elementary school and how they’ve held the team accountable this season. Coach Cook credits a tough non-conference schedule and facing some of the top talent in the state in preparing for this moment.

Hard houses are being brought in from the ice and Carney says NO MORE VEHICLES this season for safety reasons. John Millea, (MSHSL media specialist) joins Steve Thomson live from Championship Saturday at State Wrestling. They talk about its amazing atmosphere and the potential future of a separate girls division as participation continues to climb. They also preview the Boys State tournament taking place next week.
