Pastor Timothy continues our series in the Life of David by looking at 1 Samuel 8 and unpacking the role of the king in the life of Israel as well as the implications of this truth for a 21st century Christian. What is the significance for us today of the fact that the long-awaited Messiah King has come and is now seated on his throne?

Timothy continues our current series on the life of David by looking at 1st Samuel 24 and focussing on how both David and Saul view authority. There is clearly a lot to learn from the lives of both David and Saul on what our posture toward God's authority should look like.

Daniel continues in the series The Life of David. Daniel begins the sermon by asking when life seems to be pushing in on you, "where do you run?" David feels threatened by Saul, he feels like his world is pushing in on him, so David runs. David shows us that when life is hard, all of us run. But when we run, we need to make sure, in the words of the Avett Brothers " we run to something and not away from..." We must run to God; beholding His beauty, knowing Him in our suffering, and living in community.

Daniel continues the series "The Life of David". In the midst of some of the most dark and maddening times of David's life he is protected and perseveres because of his relationship with Jonathan. In a world that tells us that autonomy is a basic need, Daniel shows us that relatedness/friendship and covenant are actually what we need.

Pastor Timothy continues in our sermon series on the Life of David discussing a cure for our jealousy. We all have been infected with this disease of jealousy that convinces us that our worth and value is measured comparatively. That in order to be valuable we have to be better than other people. And the only way to cure this disease is to come to a deeper understanding of our “anointing.” Of God’s declaration that we are his and that we matter. Then and only then will we stop looking for our self worth in the approval of others and be set free to celebrate and enjoy the good fortune of others (to dance).

Daniel continues series in the Life of David by looking at a familiar story, David and Goliath. Fear is a very real emotion all of us have. Daniel preaches on how Goliath and Saul show us how not to face our fears, and how David reveals how to face our fears. David is not just an example, he is a Savior for Israel, and the pointer to a greater Savior, the Lord Jesus, who has secured victory over all the assaulting forces we may face.

Pastor Daniel finishes the series "Parables: Stories Jesus told." Life can beat us down, discourage us, make us want to play it safe. A wrong view of God can even lead us to playing it safe in this life. Jesus is a loving and gracious King who secures His kingdom and calls His followers not to play it safe, but to invest and risk and dream for sake of His kingdom. The generosity of our King leads us to be stewards who dream kingdom dreams, engaging in His business.

Pastor Timothy continues in our current series, Parables: The Stories Jesus Told. This week he looked at the parable of the treasure and the pearl. Here Jesus unpacks for us what it means for the kingdom to be both hidden and priceless.

Pastor Daniel continues the series in "Parables" by preaching on 2 stories; parable of the mustard seed and parable of leaven. There is often confusion about the kingdom of God, and what it means to hope that God's kingdom would come to earth as it in heaven. Daniel preaches on the kingdom: it's unseen power, plodding growth, and complete renewal of the world.

In this passage Jesus is teaching that the way of the kingdom is one of: rest and enjoyment, life, humility, and generosity. The purpose of life in the kingdom is enjoying communion with God and enjoying the gospel of Jesus, which is the party.

Daniel continues the series in the Parables. Prayer can be confusing and we can easily lose heart and stop praying. Jesus tells this parable to call us to the heart of prayer, which is persistence. Persistence comes from seeing ourselves as the nameless widow and God as the anti judge, and in praying we get not just something, but someone...God.

Pastor Daniel continues the series in the Parables. Preaching on the rich man and Lazarus, Daniel says that all of us are obsessed with winning and losing in comparison to others. We all have a "line of 270" that we use to measure ourselves to see if we are winning. Repentance in the Christian life is leaving this internal operating system and being wooed to trust Christ that winning comes in losing. Being Lazarus and loving Lazarus is the new way of winning.

Pastor Daniel continues our series in the Parables. Inserting ourselves into the story of a farmer sowing seed among differing soils, we are intended to ask "do we hear the voice of Jesus and the beauty of the gospel story?" The seed of the gospel is spread, though there will be obstacles, but if it is planted deep there will be fruit that brings life to the world.
