Sens Callups - Ottawa Senators Podcast

Well that escalated quickly.  We get to vent over PK Subban’s two handed chop on Mark Stone and breakdown the first two games of the series. Sens 3 @ Habs 4 Sens 2 @ Habs 3 (OT) We are joined by Russell from the Sens Underground (I swear he just gets a taste of podcasting and we’ll get him back in). Lots of talk on diving, fandom, the media and broadcasts and delaying for the results of the draft lottery which didn’t come in in time for the recording.  (LOL Oilers). We hope for a better result back on home ice and hope the energy gets the team back on track!

The Sens make a dramatic run into the playoffs which inspires Russell, Shredder and Stooli to get back to the microphones and record an episode! Move along Leaf fans, there's nothing for you here #LetsWinItAll

At the end of the line and the 82 games are completed, the Sens improbably move on to the playoffs against the Montreal Canadians of whom the Sens match up against well. Sens 3 @ NYR 0 Sens 3 @ Flyers 1 It has been a regular season of ups and downs.  From Andrew Hammond ending the season with a 20-1-2 record, the emergence of Mark Stone and Mike Hoffman to the return of Erik Karlsson to Norris Trophy caliber and the return and retirement of Daniel Alfredsson.  This season also had some not so great moments having Bryan Murray and Mark Reeds battle with inoperable cancer, the firing of Paul Maclean and trying to recover from early season struggles. Having zero changes outside of the Jason Spezza trade, the change in approach to the team by sitting veterans like Chris Phillips and holding back on others like Chris Neil and Jared Cowen has allowed the players to be young and hungry for competing in the regular season along with continuing off to the post season.

It's been a week of “most important game of the year” games. Game 77: Lightning vs Senators 2-1 OTW Game 78: Capitals vs Senators 4-3 OTW Game 79: Sens @ Leafs 3-2 SOL Game 80: Penguins vs Senators 4-3 OTW The team has played in 5 straight games that went to overtime or a shootout, and this week the Senators picked up 7 of a possible 8 points. We got lots of listener email to give us things to talk about, we share our thoughts on the playoffs, and we all agree that this team is just plain ol' entertaining the fans with their play....which is all you can really ask for.

The winning streak comes to an end and the team struggles a bit.  We try to keep this episode short and sweet - as much as we can. Another wonderful week passes as the Sens continue on the playoff push! Bruins 4 @ Sens 6 Leafs 3 @ Sens 5 Sharks 2 @ Sens 5 Kyle Bukauskas (@SNKylebukauskas) from Sportsnet joins us to talk about the season up to now. We talk about the success around the team, read some e-mails and prepare for a handful of the MOST IMPORTANT GAMES OF THE YEAR!!!!!

We’re back on a consistent basis, just like the Sens winning streak     YYYEEEAAAAHHHH! SENS 5 @ HABS 2 SENS 2 @ NYI 1 FLYERS 1 @ SENS 2 (SO) SENS 2 @ CANES 1 (OT) Although the team is emaciated by injuries, the current roster just keeps on trucking.  Unsure as to what Phillips is up to and knowing that MacArthur and Lehner are a long ways away, how do you fit guys like Smith and Neil in the line up - if at all?  Anderson re-injures his hand and Ottawa is left with no alternative in the case Hammond falters. We get lots of emails and a voicemail, plus a wonderful donation from Patrick! Let’s keep up with the playoff push, after all, the Sens are only four back!

We’re back after the most controversial week of the season - Which Goalie should be starting????  (The answer is Anderson) Sens 2 @ Wild 3 (SO) Sens 3 @ Jets 1 Sabres 2 @ Sens 3 Flames 4 @ Sens 5 (SO) Bruins 3 @ Sens 1 After a heck of a run and a loss to the Bruins in a very key game, the low probability of making the playoffs gets bleaker.  There’s tough competition in the next coming week and the team has been consistently playing well. We get a couple of e-mails from Molar Doctor and Ivan, followed by some talk from around the league.  You also won’t believe where Kardinal thinks that Mike Babcock will be coaching!

After a seriously terrifying collision, the tank appeared to be full on.  How can an AHL goalie NOT tank this team?  Well EVERYTHING IS HAPPENING! Canes 6 @ Sens 3 Habs 2 @ Sens 4 Panthers 1 @ Sens 4 Sens 3 @ Ducks 0 Sens 1 @ Kings 0 Sens 4 @ Sharks 2 Trade deadline comes and goes and the Sens DON’T DO SOMETHING, so we try to look ahead to next year and get all jumbled up with talking about Cowen and the defence. Then we get really jumbled up with the future of the Leafs, get one e-mail from CBInc and just rant on as always.

Ontario gets a day off today, so what better way to spend a day off than record a podcast? Caps 2 @ Sens 1 Blue Jackets 4 @Sens 1 Sens 2 @ Sabres 1 Penguins 5 @ Sens 4 (SO) Oilers 2 @ Sens 7 Lots of games to recap and the biggest news of the day:  Marc Methot extends for four more years.  Shane Prince gets called up for the first time to make his debut and JGP gets sent back down.  We look at the news around the league and what to do next game.

We get together for possibly the shortest and most concise episode ever Stars 6 @ Sens 3 Coyotes 2 @ Sens 7 Ottawa (most of Ottawa that is) welcomed back Spezza this week in his first visit since being traded.  Lehner takes the reins as Anderson is still out with an injury from the Leafs game.  We touch on the World Cup, Diving, the Habs and Leafs, the upcoming cap and impacts from the TV deal.  We get an e-mail from Blair Brown and no phone calls :( (Photo credit: @capital_gains65 )

We’re finally back after a long hiatus.  Luckily, we don’t do massive game summaries and just jump into things after a great game recap from CBInc on the Sens wins against the Sucks….err..Leafs. Lots of talk about the roster as the team continues to fall in the standings.  Pan tries to explain his Team Tank approach and Kardinal just can’t put himself hoping for the team to lose.  We play a little armchair GM with what to do with Methot, we get a Facebook contribution from Liam, a couple e-mails from Labru and Blair Brown.  We go into the All Star break so won’t be back for a couple of weeks, but we’d love to continue to hear from you!

We make it to the land of sunshine, no jackets and pools!  Pan and Canuck recount their tales of the area and the Sens win 5-1 over the Arizona Coyotes!

Pan and Canuck watch the Sens get hammered 5-2 in Denver.  I thought Colorado was about getting high not getting hammered (Yeaaaaaaah!) We record right after the game, so it's low energy disappointment.  But we recap the day.  Sorry we missed that cold snap in Ottawa.  No, we're not sorry.
