Of all the Holidays celebrated in today’s world, few are as popular or as misunderstood as Halloween. For some the word Halloween evokes warm childhood memories with friends and family, Dressing in costumes and eating way too much candy. For others the word Halloween is synonymous with Pure Evil. It is a day of High Witchcraft and Satanic practices. A day of secret pagan customs being loosed on the world…. Hiding in plain sight! But why are the perceptions of Halloween so incredibly divided between good and evil, between darkness and light! Perhaps it is because the ancient Church and the modern Church have gone to such great lengths to make this day acceptable to Christians. In an attempt to purify Halloween we now more frequently hear the politically correct title of “Harvest Festival”.  One conservative Christian group has even gone so far as to institute “Jesus Ween”. But will adding the name of our Lord and Savior to Holiday of such an infamous legacy be enough to counter the evil of its origins? Join us

Halloween for so many people is an opportunity to have fun by Trick or Treating with children, throwing parties and dressing in outlandish costumes.  Traditional costumes include ghosts, goblins and witches.  The witches’ costumes have recently come under fire as being politically incorrect since the long noses and pointy hats degrade the Wiccan religion.  So are the witches’ costumes really wrong for Halloween?  Perhaps the answer resides in the original practices and culture of the celebration.  Or better yet, let’s search the Holy Scriptures for the answers concerning the costumes, the practices and the Day of Halloween itself. Kim Davis gained national attention when she refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples after the Supreme Court upheld same-sex marriage in all states.  Davis’ refusal to issue the licenses caused her a great deal of legal trouble including time in jail. The refusal to issue the licenses was done in the name of religious conviction. Since the refusal to issue the licenses was religious based one may think that Kim would have the support of all churches in opposition to the LGBT lifestyle.  Well there is one such church that not only does not sympathize with Kim Davis but has come out in heated opposition to her. In a tweet, the Westboro Baptist Church called Davis “a fake Christian”.  Westboro released a statement to the press stating in one part “That man that Kim Davis is living with and calling her husband, IS NOT!”.  Westboro apparently views Davis as a hypocrite which may be in their eyes a sin worse than homosexuality. Black History Month is a time to remember the struggles and honor the accomplishments of those who descended from a once enslaved people.  Many times we do not go far enough.  Many times, the only history that is taught begins at the enslavement of black people and NEVER goes beyond that point in time.  "Black History", as it were, always seems to focus on certain individuals or particular persons, but never goes beyond to discuss the true culture or heritage that a particular nation of people  of color had before they were enslaved by other nations of people of color.  Current history teaches us that "Africans" sold thier own people into slavery.  IS that true according to the Bible?
