Religious Punk Rock
05/02/2020 Duración: 03h10minNo! Don't run away! This is a super interesting episode I swear! For a few years Kyle has been trying to get our guest Ray Camacho to come on for this topic. Ray is in a super rad band called Sacer and studied theology in college. These two passions have lead to him having an impressive knowledge of faith based punk bands. Religious punk has been around almost as long as punk. The idea feels inherently contradictory and yet numerous subcultures and subgenres exist and thrive today. We chat about different faiths and the bands that have come out representing them. We also just have some interesting chats about the ideas of religion and the complicated relationship between religion and culture. Its a different kind of episode but I swear it's got lots of good bits and riffs. Also, we want to once again take a second and thank everyone who has joined our Patreon. We are so overwhelmed by your incredible support! Weekly Rads Kyle – The Troop by Nick Cutter (book) Burnside – Waffle House Coffee mugs (obj

This is the first time we've all gotten together since The Last Jedi so expect some chat about Solo. Plus, some Star Wars show on a Disney streaming service appears to be pretty good. This episode isn't so much a review as much as an excuse to really get in an dissect the evolution of the most popular film franchise of all time and what it means to be a franchise in 2020. 08/01/2020 Duración: 04h02minThis week on the show Kyle and Matthew are joined by the Goods From The Woods (Rivers Langley, Carter Glasscock, and Sam Harter) for a look back at the 2010's. They put together some best of lists for movies, music, TV, video games, books, comics, and a whole lot of other stuff. The last ten years had a pretty profound effect on everyone on this episode and they explore where they were 10 years ago versus now. It's a long one but it's a heck of a ride. Oh, they also talk about Cats for a while up top. Instead of a weekly rad this week we ask that you donate to the family of Matthew's friend Zach Reed who tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident shortly after Christmas. Public Service
18/12/2019 Duración: 01h47minThis week Kyle and Matthew welcome Brandii Grace for a chat about video games, getting involved in politics, and changing the world around you. Now before you go screaming into the night at the idea of an episode about politics, let us assure you there is plenty of talk about Star Trek, video games, and other fun stuff as well. But yes, we do talk about the political process and Brandii's story of getting into pubic service and running for office is inspiring. She brings the process to a human level and helps you see what running for office looks like for someone who is not a billionaire. If nothing else hopefully we inspire you to get out and vote next year. The Decembrists
11/12/2019 Duración: 01h56minThis week, Kyle and Matthew welcome back the always wonderful Joe Kaye for a chat about a band that has taken their fair share of derision over the years, The Decembrists. Now, if you are scoffing, give the episode a listen. Joe does a FANTASTIC job explaining what makes the band one of his all time favorites. Kyle shares his journey from hating the band to being a fan of their work. It's neat sometimes when we get to do an episode where we give something a second chance. And even if you're not convinced by the end, we got some pretty good tangents too. Making Stuff and Not Giving Up
04/12/2019 Duración: 02h09minThis week Kyle and Matthew welcome director and one third of The People's Collective Malik McCrea for a chat about making stuff. All parties involved agree that making stuff is pretty rad. Whatever your venture, the satisfaction of looking at something you made is intoxicating. But for every high high in making stuff there are also plenty of low lows. It comes with the territory. But one of the most important things you can remember is that when things are down, you can't give up because you never know what's going to happen next. There's also a lot of talk about movies and Malik shares is super cool origin story. Something a little different for you this week but we hope this episode inspires you to go make a thing, or if you are in the dregs of a project, we hope this inspires you to hang in there!
