This week Kyle and Matthew are joined by the always wonderful Robert Ahn for a chat about the Japanese television series Documental. Robert has been a fan of the work of Hitoshi Matsumoto for many years and Documental has been the first (legal) way for folks in the US to see one of Matsumoto's game shows translated with subtitles. This week Kyle and Matthew are joined by James D Hillmer for a chat about Korean actor Kang-ho Song. James is currently in a doctoral program studying Korean culture and suggested using Kang-ho Song to explore the world of Korean cinema. In the last few decades, Korean cinema has risen to international prominence. While early breakouts like Oldboy or The Host appealed to genre fans, the 2019 best picture win for Parasite shows just how much impact Korean cinema is having around the world. Ladies and gentlemen please strap in because on this episode we are going on a journey that spans the entire universe and more than 40,000 years! This week Kyle and Matthew are joined by comedian Dave Apkarian for a chat about the lore behind the popular tabletop game Warhammer 40k. Dave has gotten into miniature painting and Kyle has been fascinated by David's new hobby. After a few off mic discussion about how the Warhammer lore is pretty cool they decided an episode was in order. This is one of those episodes where Kyle and Matt hand Dave the keys and let him drive. And he sure takes us places. If you have no idea what Warhammer 40k is about (and we sure had no idea...) then this is a great primer. I'm sure it'll spark some corrections and conversations and that's half the fun of the ep.
