Chasing Encounters

As an Afro Peruvian person living in the Canadian diaspora, Roxana Escobar Ñañes explains the concepts of human geography as a point of entry to understand how our lives are shaped by spaces and how our social interactions are produced. She explores Afro Peruvian communities as domestic spaces for healing and connection. She argues that “these spaces become places because we give them meanings and emotional attachments and we transform them.” Also, Roxana posits that although being black became an archetype of negativity that haunts people’s lives, blackness becomes the center of human geographies - Blackness becomes healing.
