They have to be extracted, cleaned up, polished, and often cut. There's a lot of work that needs to be done for a diamond to be either appreciated or understood. If you see a diamond in the rough, you wouldn't know that this precious stone has actually a huge monetary value on the market. This is the same as it is with people. Often, you meet people who seem to be, to a certain extent, “rough”. Rough on the edges, rough in their beings, in their appearance, or sometimes perhaps rough in just the way they act. But, behind that dust, behind the things around it that makes it look rough, there is a true diamond that lives there, and that is the real person that you see behind.
