W: Well yes, actually it's right over there, in the front of the gas station. Why? M: I've gotta get some groceries, but I'm running out of money. So I need to go to an ATM. W: Hmm, I don't think you can do it now. It's already half past 8. Most ATMs in Japan close before 8, or even 7. M: Really? Oh, I didn't know that. Why do they close so early? In Canada, ATMs are open for 24 hours, even on national holidays. W: Hmm… Maybe the banks are afraid of thieves or robberies from ATMs at night, so they made this kind of regulation. M: I think it's a bit weird. I mean, Japan's one of the safest countries in the world, but they won't let the ATM open in the middle of the night? Come on...
