This week we’re bringing you a conversation with the very chingona Andrea de la Vega about the tangled web that is the U.S. immigration system. She is a DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) recipient who shared her story about being a documented immigrant, then suddenly finding herself in immigration limbo. Andrea is one of 800,000 people in the United States who qualify for DACA, an immigration policy created by the Obama administration that provides some legal protection for young undocumented people. While the Trump administration technically allowed it to expire on March 5, DACA is currently tied up in the federal court system.
