(Warning: explicit/hateful language) Everyday, I get voice messages, texts, and emails from people just like this: people who reject Jesus and who follow Donald Trump instead as they embrace the false Gospel of white Christian nationalism. Jesus says, blessed are the peacemakers. Trump embraces war. Jesus says, blessed are the merciful. Trump rejects mercy. Jesus says whatever we do to the least of these, we do to him. Trump cuts food assistance and health care for children and their families and uses the money to pay for tax cuts for the richest of the rich. Jesus’ teaching should challenge us, not send us into a rage. This Holy Week, reject those who reject Jesus and who follow Donald Trump instead.
