A day off didn't bother Pete Alonso. The New York Mets slugger stayed hot, hitting his 4th HR of the season and driving in his 18th RBI as the Mets defeated the A's 7-4 in the series opener. It was Griffin Canning day on the mound for New York and he pitched well over his first five innings. But, in an attempt to get some length from the rotation, Carlos Mendoza rolled with Canning into the 6th and that's where things got scary for the Mets.
